    Three choices

Slacking off isn't a bad suggestion--if the wife can get away with it. But that isn't always possible. The first-level boss might be capable of making her life miserable in ways she can't handle.

The real choice here is stay or go. Stay and try not to let it hurt personally, or start looking for another job. That's the solution here. Make time for it--just make time for it. They're out there.

That's the way to go. Bad organizations hold on to people who are afraid to look for something better; the wife or the husband need to either get her out of that company or out of that department. Leave it behind.
