A call by university researchers for vibrator-seeking women has the local religious community hot and bothered

Duh!

Well, the only response is painfully obvious. "What a dildo!" (Vetter)

Friday, November 6, 2009 12:31 PM

If it comes down to 'no motivation to relate to the opposite sex' ...

... Vetter seems to be providing that all by his lonesome. No sex-toys required.

When he stops speaking for women, as though he understands women, that will be a marked improvement towards relating to the opposite sex.

Friday, November 6, 2009 12:35 PM

Sounds like good advice, Father

If more of your brethern had sat around and masturbated over the last 50 years or so, the Catholic Church wouldn't be forking out millions of dollars to its victims.

Friday, November 6, 2009 12:45 PM

Why so harsh on sex toys?

They prevent unwanted pregnancies and therefore abortions, plus women don't need to use birth control with 'em.

Friday, November 6, 2009 12:48 PM

Um, people...

The Church considers masterbation a SIN. You're not supposed to have sexual enjoyment. It's only for makin' babies! Duh!

Oh, by the way "What a dildo!"--HILARIOUS!

Friday, November 6, 2009 12:49 PM

uh, I meant "masturbation"

Not mastErbation. Not that theirs anything wrong with a little dom play.

Friday, November 6, 2009 12:50 PM

But you gotta love the apocalyptic fear of sexuality on display here; the assumption seems to be that self-pleasuring women will lock themselves in their rooms with no more motivation to relate to the opposite sex.

Yeah, it doesn't have anything to do with it being women, I'm pretty sure he would be opposed to a college funded study for men to look at different kinds of porn. Masturbation is against Catholic doctrine for both sexes.

Solo sex is just as pathetic whether its a man or woman doing it. Just ask Carrie Prejean.

WTF?

I cannot believe the sanctimonius of this religious "leader".

So let's see what a young woman has as options to explore this perfectly natural drive.

1) Get married (in a church) and then have sex in the missionary position with the lights off and no birth control ... this will lead to the blessing of many children as early in life as possible so she can abandon any plans for school career and fulfillment of any sort.

Presumably the above guarantees a place in God's kingdom assuming she does not commit suicide, or cheat on her husband, do to boredom.

2) Be a "slut" and masturbate thereby postponing sex (as recommended by the sanctimonious celibacy pledge) and according to this ahole burn in hell.

3) Be a "slut" and sleep around with men (or women) without the blessing of "marriage in a church" and burning hell for that.

I find it so good to know that young women have so many choices. Where is Jocelyn Elders when you need her?

Friday, November 6, 2009 01:00 PM

Jocelyn Elders

Yes, Jocelyn Elders--we hardly knew thee. A moment of grateful remembrance for the woman who tried to suggest age-appropriate sex education in the modern US.

Women enjoy sex without men?

Whoa! Heresy! Get thee to a nunnery!!

Then another woman can help out.

Seriously, this guy needs to get out more. He's example A and another reason of what is wrong with religion. Get out of other people's bedroom already.

Friday, November 6, 2009 01:30 PM

I'd say we're on the right track with out response.

The only appropriate response, in my view, to this religious nonsense is just nonstop mockery and derision.

The human species needs to just laugh in the face of the clergy forever while their victims empty out the church coffers in the courts.

Then, one day, the church will be no more, and we will be free, truly free.

An Old Saying Works Here

This is an old saying and I think it applies to this Catholic Preist's comment. IF YOU DON'T PLAY THE GAME YOU DON'T GET TO MAKE THE RULES! Of course if these supposed men of god bought a few sex toys themselves they might not be in jail, and paying out millions, for their past sexual abuse today!!!!

Ignorance about Catholic sexuality

Catholics are not the same thing as Puritans. They are actually far from it. Contrary to popular belief, oral sex is allowed, as long as its a "means to an ends" so to speak.

Sex is just reserved for married couples, and that it is open to life. I know you all like to think its just "Lay still while I deposit my sperm in you honey. Try not to enjoy it too much", but thats just because you are ignorant. If Catholics want to do reverse cow-girl or doggy-style, as long as they're married and not using artificial birth control, everything is good.

And I'm sure none of you have ever heard about John Paul II writing about the importance of the female orgasm, since that would spoil your whole "Catholics are sexually repressed and hate sex" thing.

The Catholic doctrine holds sex as sacred, and reserves it for loving marriages, instead of dildo parties.

You look at sex as a simply biological act, a form of self-pleasure, and Catholics view it as something special.

(Now you can insert your pedophile priest joke here.)

It Has to be Said

Duke University researchers are looking for female students to attend a sex toy party...

*Sigh* Why wasn't I ever informed that there could be career paths that led to this? I feel woefully uninformed by my public education.

Friday, November 6, 2009 02:41 PM

"I'm 99.9 percent sure the researchers aren't asking young women to "just sit around and masturbate.""

Why would "just sit around and masturbate" be a problem to anyone?

Do any parents really care if their sons or daughters masturbate, for pleasure or research?

As a parent of both a son and a daughter, I can honestly say I wouldn't care, as long as they brush their teeth every night, eat right, observe good hygiene, get their homework done on time, get to class, and do all the things that good students are supposed to do.

It would be cool if people could earn PHDs in oral sex, but society isn't there yet.

Did I say anything about Catholiism?

Not at all. In fact I wish Catholics would get back to their tradition of progressiveness.

The way I see it, it matter not what the religion, fundamentalists the world over are misogynists and want to go backwards as far as women's roles, freedoms, etc. I fully agree that the term "The American Taliban" applies to a lot of US Fundamentalists. A good guess is that many of them are the 20% of citizens willing to admit to the surveys they are Republicans.

Now, to get back to the article, I am willing to admit I know little about this particular religious leader and his views. But at least when he opens his mouth about what, or what not, young woman should do with their bodies, by themselves (or with a consenting partner of either sex) my "fundamentalist alarm" goes off.

Friday, November 6, 2009 03:49 PM

I call SEXISM!

Just why are these researchers not looking for Fleshlight and inflatable doll seeking men?

Where is the OUTRAGE now?

Let the religious community blow a gasket over LARGE groups of MEN engaged in CARNAL RELATIONS is VINYL, LATEX and RUBBER facsimiles!!!

Please TRACY, TELL US ALL ABOUT IT!
