They've been an item for 10 years

3 in a row

Wow! Three stories in broadsheet in a row that mention "hooker boots". That's impressive, but tiresome. Let's give it a rest already. Or maybe the columnists need some retail therapy and just need to go get themselves some fancy new boots.

BTW, any hooker that can afford boots like those really needs to bump her job title up to call girl.

Good thing she wasn't wearing stipper heels

Because that would imply she dances on the pole.

Echoes of Woody Allen/Soon-Yi Previn?

In what way?

Neither were related. They never lived together. They had no personal relationship when Woody was dating her mother. She was was an adult when they started to have a relationship.

The only similarity is the age difference. Of course, older men have been marrying younger women for centuries.

This is much worse than Woody Allen

It will be interesting to see if he suffers the same type of backlash.

Friday, July 10, 2009 09:39 AM

Oh, where's the outrage?

*Yawn*

Grow up

Seriously. Are you trying to suggest that these relationships are not consensual? Or are you suggesting that the women involved are creepy for being attracted to older men? I think it is time for society as a whole to stop being so concerned with what consenting adults are up to. The same rationale for your post is what makes the right-wingers feel they have the right to ban gay marriage and supervise women's sexual choices. If you think dating older men is wrong then don't do it.

Who Morgan Freeman fucks is none of my business.

It is none of your business either.

You expect Hollywood to conform to your Puritan, Mormon and Amish standards of behavior?

You must be some kind of virgin.

She is 27, this has nothing to do with your underage panty raiding articles.

Pedophilia on the mind much?

Friday, July 10, 2009 09:58 AM

Over a decade

And she is 27? So Freeman was banging her at 16 years old?

Friday, July 10, 2009 10:00 AM

Consenting adults my ass

At one point in this relationship, there was only ONE consenting adult. It looks like Freeman broke the law, and seduced a minor. And yes I would call a quarter $MIL donation "seduction".

I'm not really outraged or anything, but take a hike with that "none of my business" shtick. If he broke the law he should be punished, celebrity or not.

Glad to know of it, but dump on Morgan Freeman?

It would certainly be nice if Morgan Freeman couldn't find himself attracted to someone so so so much younger than he is. But he is, and I'm not sure how many of us want to give this good man too hard a hard time for it. May they treat each other well, live a dream--Best to them both.

Creepy

I’m hardly prudish – this really is odd, creepy behavior. If this is true it will change the way I look at Morgan Freeman and I don’t think I’m alone in saying that – I predict his career suffers big time. Whenever I hear or see Woody Allan the fact that he married his long time partner’s daughter (and yes – he did know this child as she was growing up) is the very first thing that comes to mind – it’s totally eclipsed his career in my mind. The fact that everyone is consenting adults now is beside the point – all I can think of is my mother, my child, my trusted loved ones and my family gatherings. The behavior is such a betrayal – it’s about a lot more then sex.

Salon does celebrity gossip now???

Assuming this isn't a sign of some upcoming apocalypse, can we look forward to Salon's indepth coverage of Lohan's lesbian experimentation or Britney's latest meltdown.

Seriously. You kids have better things to talk about.

@Anne in NYC

Whenever I hear or see Woody Allan the fact that he married his long time partner’s daughter (and yes – he did know this child as she was growing up)...

No, he did not. Woody knew of her, but he did not have a personal relationship when Soon-Yi was a child and living with Mia. Woody and Mia never lived together. Woody would come over to screw Mia, pick up his kids, drop off something. He never personally interacted with Soon-Yi other than to say hello and good-bye.

Not his step-daughter

He legally adopted her mother so he is her grandfather not step-grandfater. Also, he and his second wife raised her in their home.

Friday, July 10, 2009 10:40 AM

Sure it's creepy!

But what the hell, she's 27 and he's ...old. He'll be dead in a decade or two, and she'll still be in her PRIME.

So she loves him, so they spend awhile together. I don't see anything that I would consider a "moral injustice" or a crime, but I do believe plenty of folks are going to judge him more harshly than the devil and freak out.

As for the donation to the school--if she was his granddaughter, that's the kind of thing a wealthy man might do even if he'd never MET her. (And I'm not about to take the troll-posting that he was banging her for a decade at face value.)

I've known of a few cases where a man ended up with carnal knowledge of a mother and a daughter before. Just doesn't seem like that big a deal.

Friday, July 10, 2009 10:42 AM

Correction needed!!!!

I've read the Natonal Enquirer story twice. I see nothing to support the following sentence: "According to the original Enquirer story, Hines and Freeman have been having an affair for over a decade. "

In fact, the story only supports a claim of 'at least eight years.' It says she is 27 and the affair began when she was a teenager.

There is no claim or support for a claim that this affair began when she was under 18, let alone as young as 16.

Friday, July 10, 2009 10:42 AM

@ chartruesecrow, something stinks, Patrick McEvoy-Halson, Rance Spergl

Did you miss this line?

"Hines, the granddaughter of Freeman's first wife Jeanette Adair Bradshaw, has been part of Freeman's family since childhood. According the original Enquirer story, Hines and Freeman have been having an affair for over a decade." If Dena Hines is 27 now, she was around 16 when this "affair" started.

That is pretty sick and yes, it smacks of pedophilia. Sure, a 16 year old girl has the body of a woman, but very little of the power. In case you need it spelled out for you, one of the many disgusting things about pedophilia is the discrepancy in power between the two parties involved: an adult and a child. Then the added outrage factor is that Mr. Freeman was in a position of trust as her grandfather. In a healthy situation he would be outraged if his 16 year old granddaughter thought it was ok to "date" a 62 year old man. Would any of you be ok with the prospect of your 16 year old daughter, or sister "dating" a 62 year old man?

The reason why these comments piss me off so much is that it is these kind of blase, prurient or naive attitudes about this kind of behavior is what keeps it going strong in our country and the world.

Wake the fuck up and stop thinking with your soulless penises!

I may sound pretty provincial, but I will be not be seeing any of Mr. Freeman's projects as I have avoided other performers who have committed similar acts. Their manipulative, cruel, criminal acts overshadow all of their talent and artistry.

@ sethbdoe Actually, this is very newsworthy and I appreciate the coverage. I guess the coverage of Bernie Madoff bores you as well. I mean, his victims were all consenting adults, right?
