Despite these facts, men and women still meet, become aroused by each other (as if it were some inborn trait and not a political choice) and make babies, sometimes even intentionally.

I'm a man, and yet the myriad misbehaviors of my gender, both small and grand in scale, and the fact that males are largely responsible for pushing our species to the brink of calamity, have convinced me in recent years that the human species' only true hope for a viable long-term future is a world without the male of the species. That is, developing reproductive technologies reach the point where women can reproduce without men, and sex selection of embryos becomes widespread and viable, and a major sociocultural shift ensues whereby fewer and fewer males are conceived and born with each passing year as society slowly shifts into an all-female existence, and adapts accordingly. Males wouldn't be killed off violently, but allowed to die off naturally, and the male population would steadily shrink through attrition. Eventually, human society would reach a point where no more males were being conceived and born, and all living males had died off. This would undoubtedly take many decades to accomplish, but in the meantime, as long as female reproduction of other females were reasonably controlled in a sustainable way, then overall human population would shrink, human life would become more sustainable, and the enormous stresses that we've placed on the earth would be lessened.

The point is that once technology reaches the point where all the benefits of sexual reproduction (genetic mixing, etc.) can be accomplished without actual sperm cells from actually existing men, then men WILL become totally superfluous to human existence, and society and the species would be much better off without them (us). Women can do all the other tasks of civilization just fine and on their own, and almost certainly make far less of a mess of things than men have.

Of course, I realize that this vision of mine is mostly fantasy, and has little or no chance of coming to pass--largely because the vast majority of men would be too selfish, arrogant, and narcissistic to embrace it, or even to see how phasing themselves out of existence would be the ultimate benevolent sacrifice, the ultimate altruistic gift, to ensure the species' survival. Thus, most men would resist such a plan, probably violently (which, ironically, would merely lend credence to some of the underlying reasons for wanting to try it in the first place!) Unfortunately, too few women would see the benefits either, and too many of them would cling to men out of inertia, nostalgia, or a false sense of security.

Oh well, too bad. A world without men wouldn't be perfect, it wouldn't be Utopia, but it would be a helluva lot better off than the world we currently find ourselves living in.
