It could just as easily be argued that Palin's pathetic public pimping of her family - in this final instance as an excuse for her erratic behavior and ultimate failure at the job she was elected to do - is an example of why women and mothers should stay out of politics in the first place.
Mind you, I'm not making this argument (which I find idiotic). I'm just pointing out that basing her resignation on family concerns just gave more ammunition to those who think women should stay out of politics.
It's kind of hard to paint Palin as some kind of new school feminist maverick when she goes around setting back the gains of women in the political arena at every turn.
As more than one other poster has pointed out, She's no Hillary Clinton... she's just an incompetent wackjob who needs to be removed from the public discourse permanently.
Here's your open space. Respond to me, and show all the criticism that should be leveled at the Obama kids and/or Michelle Obama that the MSM has been avoiding.
On the Palin side:
Palin Kids (really Bristol, the only one who's actually been criticized):
Teen pregnancy?
Dated a pothead?
Palin Parents:
Used kids as a prop?
Bankrupted a city as mayor?
Tried to ban library books?
Used official power to go after a relative's ex-spouse?
Possibly used official power to get a house built?
Claimed to be against "Bridge to nowhere", but in fact supported it until Congress nixed it, then took the same amount of money for other things?
So - how have the Obamas been this bad either publicly or privately? I wait with bated breath.
This reminds me of a joke I saw -- how do you convince a Washington press pool reporter you aren't slapping them in the face? Tell them you aren't.
Amanda, not everything that people tell you is true. One would hope that reporters would realize that. They don't.
Breathing seems to come kinda natcherly without no problem.
Although I find Sarahs bible banging politics not my cup, I find her far more credible than a lot of our Blue Dog, Republican, and phony liberal Congresspeople. Our reps in both houses and the big house are blowing it.
Letterman knew who he was hammering with his alleged "humor" and a flimsy apology eventually came after he felt his millions threatened. Bitter bad news bastard. His ratings suffer because of his attitude.
Leno is an equal opportunity joker with no bad taste.
Children should be allowed to grow up and become responsible adults without intervention from state-run media to build their crappy ratings. Children don't need this potential damage to their self-esteem.
She will join the other Boobs on FOX. Just wait and see. She fits right in with their profile "Lights on and no one is Home".
'Want me to make a positive difference and fight for ALL our children's future from OUTSIDE the governor's office?' It was four 'yes'es and one 'hell yeah!,' "
And you would want your mother to come to your defense too when all you were doing was accompanying your mother to a function.
Then the cruel stupid press criticizes her special needs child (you know, the kind dumbass Obama makes fun of) which she chose to bear and love instead of aborting as are 90% of these fetuses.
She showed a tough mama persona? Let's see, she used her family like a sword and shield - raising them as an issue when helpful, and then lambasting anyone for mentioning them, or her commitments, in anything but a glowing light. Her ADULT daughter elected to be a public person, having her own interviews, her own cover of a national magazine and proclaiming herself a national spokesperson for teen pregnancy issues - but somehow, she's off limits.
And Palin continually portrayed herself as a victim. The notion that she got the worst treatment of anyone, ever, is laughable. Maybe Pres. Obama can tell her about the monkey pins and t-shirts, the "terrorist fist jab," Geraldine Ferraro's comments, the racial incidents at numerous campaign headquarters, or a little ditty called "Barak the Magic Negro." And perhaps Hillary or Nancy P. can lend Sarah their big girl pants.
Sarah Palin took us two steps forward and five steps back. If her message was that you can be a wife, mother, and a good government steward, then she blew that straight to hell by quitting her job halfway through her term.
Ph'nglui mglw'nafh C'thulhu tTrig R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!
Trig still lives, arisen, I suppose, again from that chasm of stone which has shielded him since the sun was young. His accursed city is sunken once more, for the Vigilant sailed over the spot after the April storm; but his ministers on earth still bellow and prance and slay around idol-capped monoliths in lonely places.
He must have been trapped by the sinking whilst within his black abyss, or else the world would by now be screaming with fright and frenzy. Who knows the end? What has risen may sink, and what has sunk may rise. Loathsomeness waits and dreams in the deep, and decay spreads over the tottering cities of men.
A time has come - but I must not and cannot think! Let me pray that, if I do not survive this manuscript, my executors may put caution before audacity and see that it meets no other eye.
Cthulhu mngos rllh'h!!
...then I guess she's about as maternal as Joe Jackson.
Right ... the same Palin who threw her pregnant daughter under the bus for political expediency and who dragged a newborn along the campaign trail with her. Politics certainly came first there.
Not to mention the desire in this dumb article to go back to the old chestnut of women and motherhood as some sort of 'political save.' Please. Who cares if she's a good mother or not? That has nothing to do with her qualifications as a governor or any other political office.
I'm going to pretend this article was a silly joke.
