Is Palin setting a poor example for her kids?

We don't yet know the reason for the governor's resignation, but that hasn't stopped the cries of "bad mommy"

The letters thread is now closed.

Palin poor example?

As far as I'm concerned, she' s nobody's good example but she's the only mama these kids have and so far they seem well adjusted ( not mentioning, teenage pregnancy or no other choice than join the army????) The little girl is the cutest and seems very happy. The way she takes care of her little brother, Palin must be doing something right or is it her husband?

She already has

How can Palin, at this point in the family's life, possibly set a good example? We've already seen the damage that has been done to her children by her 'Me First' pledge. This latest stunt is just another desperation attempt to remain in the spotlight and have the world as Sarah knows it still talking about her. She should win the Loser Mom of the Decade Award.

It was pure comedy to hear the comments on Fox (after she announced she was quitting the Governorship of Alaska) about how literate and articulate Palin is. Excuse me? She is neither. She talks like Faulkner writes--never ending a sentence but wandering all over, I suppose trying to figure out what she wants to say and how she wants to say it. Never quite succeeding.

We can only thank God that McCain was stupid enough to choose her as his VP (the blind and dumb leading the blind and dumb?) Now we are aware of her multitudinous lack of skill and ability. Keep it up, Sarah. We learn more about your inability to hold any political office every day.

Are you competing with Michael Jackson for public acclaim? Ha! Forget it.

@walter_map -- Sorry you're delusional and don't know facts

Start close, check with Canadians: they can't get brain surgery, are sent home to die.

We do not have socialism in this country but King Hussein Obama is rapidly taking us down that path (and will be stopped.)

Socialism hasn't worked in Europe; they're going broke.

There hasn't been any progress in Europe in 20 years.

Countries like Denmark and Sweden have voted to divest themselves of socialism.

So why would we try it when it's been a resounding failure?

Obama thinks socialism will work

It's a flawed system; sounds good on paper, fails every time it's tried.

Obviously untrue, because it's worked in both the US and Europe for decades.

C'mon neocon, you're not even trying.

"...except you have actual responsibilities"

I have mixed feelings about the "bad mommy" critique -- at times, Palin seeks to excuse or explain dubious behavior by attributing her reaction to her maternal instincts (e.g., the flap about Letterman's joke) & in fact I doubt her behavior in that case was very good for her daughter -- she was basically telling Willow that people all across America were entertained by the idea of Willow being raped, when most people thought the joke was about Bristol, who is an adult & who decided to become a national spokesperson for an unrealistic rightwing campaign. Surely it's fair to call Palin on that?

But to talk about quitting a governorship as if it were piano lessons is a bit off. Piano lessons are something adults & to some extent kids do for self-fulfillment. Your job is something you get paid to do. Most people, especially in the higher pay levels, are supposed to have some professional ethics about how they approach their jobs. If Palin wants to quit, then of course she's allowed to -- for whatever reason or no reason. But when anyone votes, he or she is hiring the candidate. Surely we are entitled to take into consideration how the person left her last job. My state's governor hasn't exactly had an easy 7 years, but I don't see Jennifer Granholm whining about it.

I think what we're missing in this country are demands for professionalism from our politicians. Too many pundits are willing to look at political stands and ignore basic professional standards. I manage a technical writing group for a software company -- no one's life hinges on what I do. I remember coming home from a long day of meetings & seeing a video of Bush being briefed on Hurricane Katrina's imminent landfall. He was less interested in protecting the people of New Orleans than my peers & I had been in computer manuals! My husband's a doctor -- I know what it's like to never really be completely off of work -- I've seen my husband awakened at 3 am & put more care & thought into a conversation with a single patient than Bush was doing for a large city. Similarly, Mark Sanford's wandering off to Argentina -- for whatever reason -- with no way for his staff to be in touch -- it's not professional. Just leaving elected office because you are a "lame duck" is not professional. It's not an adult thing to do.

Terkoy

Not to worry, old sod. When the minorities get uppity they have a tendency to burn their own neighborhoods. You should be quite secure up in "The Holler", deep in the darkest reaches of Appalachia... I'm pretty sure Sharpton couldn't find New Jersey on a map, let alone Pig-sticker, Kentucky.

@walter_map -- Obama thinks socialism will work

It's a flawed system; sounds good on paper, fails every time it's tried. Kinda like stimulus bills.

Most of the world is poverty-stricken (and socialized.)

Children should be forced to learn as I was, not waste classroom time.

The bottom third should be lifted up, up, up.

The top two-thirds should not be pulled down, down, down.

Nobody paid attention to Clinton and China.

Nobody paid attention to Obama, Ayers, Wright, Rezko.

But let's not waste time destroying Palin.

She's a clear and present danger to Marxism in America.

We've got to shove thru healthcare and cap and trade.

That'll bring 'em to their knees. Quick.

Now I hear Al Sharpton on the radio, who gained dubious fame but is still a street thug in a suit. Pardon me while I puke. Imus apologized but that was not good enough.

Also...

Her constantly pulling the sexism card is getting old. She's always hiding behind it, using it as an excuse, using it to try to negate any and all criticism. She's giving women a bad name. She's showing herself to be all he stereotypes we don't want to be labeled with.

As a comparison, look at Hilary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi. They don't always complain that they're being treated differently or wrongly because they're women. They just get the job done and the stick with it until it's done.
