Year in Broadsheet

From Hillary Clinton to Sarah Palin, our ladyblog has had one heck of a year.

The letters thread is now closed.

Let's try something diffy next year...

Speaking only for myself, I'd like to see less obsession with the sheer femininity of women and more emphasis on the general humanity of women -- that which we share in common with the male of the species. It's almost like you are trying to keep our minds in a pink little ghetto where the things that make us most different from men and invite the most ridicule from society are the things that you most like to rub our noses in. We need a new direction here. How about a Broadsheet not just of the vagina but also of the mind? Can this be done? Just asking.

the one you missed...

...at least, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you didn't hear about it.

What about the story of the girl at a Florida private school who went out for boys' basketball (their school lacking a girls' basketball team). League says: "No girls or we kick you out of the league." School and team say: "Fine, screw you. We'll play without a league, but sista ain't going nowhere."

Given that this section of Salon is so eager to pounce on anything that shows males oppressing females, I'd hate to think that this one simply painted a bunch of males in a far too positive and female-supportive light to be of interest to Broadsheet.

Lots of interesting articles.

I see some readers are already angry at something or other. For myself, I was quite pleased with this year's harvest of topics. If I were to ask for something, it would be more consideration of female and male roles in the world--what people are doing to 'bridge the divide'. Of course anti-female (or for that matter anti-male) chauvinism should be exposed and discussed; but it would be nice to see the good side too every now and then. Something to take us away from depressive shi'ites like MerelyMortalMale and Brightstar. Like the basketball team mentioned a couple of letters above.
