Finally the sly old fox McCain came out and out smart the young inexperience kid from Daley's Chicago. Please do not jump at me for saying it. Jump at the Washington’s backroom politicians; Nancy Pelosi and Howard Dean. If you look at the polls, Congress popularity is way below that Of George Bush. This election year Democrats could have a landslide win in two branches of Government without the need to "stage" show after "shows" around the country or in Europe. If only Michelle and Clintons' haters could have accepted Hillary as VP, Obama accept the VP or during the Democrat's Primaries the Washington Politicians stop pressuring Hillary to quit the race, when she was gaining and increasing her delegate’s count. If only Howard Dean has included all the elected delegates from Both Michigan and Florida earlier. Hillary would have been a clear winner. Can you imagine a woman with an Afro American as President and Vice President........An unbeatable team?! Obama talks of change, even before being elected he changes by voting for the FISA, enhanced Bush's faith base initiative, and enlarges the war in Afghanistan. Is this the change we want? It is the same old Washington politics! With McCain's Gov. Sarah Palin, she is truly for change away from the Obama's Washington back room crones. I bet you Obama and surrogates will blame the Clintons again. Pride and stupidly seal the fate of Obama. Now, Obama cannot use race to gain political power. Whom do you think get the last laugh?
1. Did Clinton want the vice presidency?
Two things to consider with that one. If Clinton's eyes are set on the presidency, it doesn't do much good to be affiliated with a (by necessity) losing campaign for her next shot in 2012 (just ask John Edwards). Moreover, if it's influence Clinton seeks, it's doubtful that she'd wield greater influence from the vice president's office than she would as a majority party senator in a large and influential state.
2. Would a "dream ticket" seem genuine?
I think not. In fact, republicans would rightly point out that the "dream ticket" would be a cynical attempt to consolidate power and placate voters (as opposed to genuine cooperation). That would be the wrong message to send to independents and the so-called "Reagan democrats". That's without addressing the possibility that there might be lingering animosity from the primary. I don't doubt that the candiates can put their differences aside (after all, politics is politics); but with a candidate there's an entourage and an army of surrogates. Can you imagine Howard Wolfson rubbing shoulders with David Ploufe?
No problem :)
The saddest part of this election is that Redraz's vote might actually cause social change, whereas mine is just spiting in the wind.
It might have been nice to have an Obama/Clinton ticket for some people. However, I think that there are all kinds of reasons why it wouldn't have worked.
(1) Already, there are problems for some people with a black man as president. Had the team been Obama and Hillary, it probably would have sent a lot of men screaming into the hills. It shouldn't be that way but it is.
(2) Hillary has "high negatives." For whatever reason, there are A LOT of people who have a visceral hatred for Hillary. Even if the PUMAs would have stuck to the ticket like glue, I doubt that they would make up for all the people lost because they hate Hillary. (It's unfortunate that they do, but it's a fact of life.)
(3) Had Obama picked another woman (Kathleen Sabelius of Kansas, for example) the PUMAs would still be doing what they are doing now. AND, McCain would not have chosen a woman and let people pick two Republican white guys.
(4) Palin had better be a quick study on information about the federal government. I suspect that Joe Biden will demonstrate how much she doesn't know in their debate. Palin may be a woman, but having two xx chromosomes is still a long way from being a brilliant addition to the ticket. Surely, there are many Republican women around who would have added more to the Republican ticket than their chromosomes. (Think about what some of the women Republican Senators must be thinking now. McCain could have had a Republican equivalent of Joe Biden.)
(5) Democrats shouldn't panic just because McCain doesn't stick to the script that the Democrats have written for him. Obama and his people have been running an effective campaign and there is no indication that they are befuddled by this development.
No, Obama should not have picked Hillary just because McCain picked Palin.
Obama picked someone who has more than demonstrated himself capable of dispatching the duties of the VP, or Pres. if necessary. He has chosen someone, who though prone to gaffs, has incomparable experience in the the areas most dire to our country at the moment, and he has chosen someone who has good relations on both sides of the aisle and does not galvanize the opposition.
McCain, on the other hand, has chosen someone who has even less experience than his competitor, has apparantly no considered views on many of the important issues facing us, and has no relationship with any political powers inside or outside the country.
In other words, Obama showed that he is capable of sage judgement in choosing what is best for the country, and not just best for his campaign, while McCain showed that he is capable of choosing a woman.
I can only imagine that Hillary supporters, male or female, are smart enough to understand that voting for McCain just because he picked a running mate with two X chromosomes is folly indeed.
Make no mistake, I will rejoice when we have a woman president or VP in this country, but I will vote for her because she is good, not because she is a woman.
So we should all be running scared because McCain picked someone with X chromosomes to be his running mate? And solely because of her physiology every woman who voted for Senator Clinton (and therefore ostensibly believes in protecting a woman's right to choose, Title IX, reasonable gun control and limits on oil drilling) will now flock to this naif? And we're further meant to believe that this woman is more qualified to be VP than Kay Hutchenson or Elizabeth Dole? Or for that matter Olympia Snowe or Susan Collins? Is the GOP really that clueless? Are there really more than 5 or 6 PUMAs out there who would really vote for this ticket just to show those darned Dems? To me that's a little like saying "I'm not sure my significant other really respects me so I'm leaving him for a new SO that beats me and empties my bank account." God help us if this is all it takes to send Dems running.
