Should Obama have picked Hillary?

Did the GOP just co-opt the Democrats' chance at making history? Sarah Palin, a conservative, antiabortion, pro-NRA Republican may just be the first woman in the White House.

The letters thread is now closed.

No. Obama should not have picked Hillary

Bill was the donkey in the room. Bill would have drove both nuts and embarrassed both at various times with his antics - if he even would provide the info of his business dealings over the past 8 years.

It would have been a disaster.

Look, as woman I just don't take this breaking the ceiling at all costs including putting the wrong people in certain positions to feed the identity politics frenzy that has weakened this party for 30 years.

I want the right people in the job and it simply was not Hillary.

I don't say she would not be a good veep or president. But, the pairing would be awful and mostly because of both Bill and the fanatical women who would feel they could dictate the presidency.

We first need to get past this stupid identity politics stuff.

elect the people we like or want and feel are right regardless.

Not one group and their issues should dominate.

We should not be a party made up of just groups who are concerned with only their personal issues and complain and whine when the focus is on others.

We need to be a party of all people and focus on the big picture of the economy working for all, ect. Not always this group or whatever and bitch when we don't get our way all the time.

It destroyed us for 30 years and weakened us by forcing our candidates to pandering to umpteen groups and their issues only instead of appealing to the population as a whole.

that is the appeal of obama. It's not a black or white or woman or man or whoever that dominates. it is the people as community and working for the better good.

The other stuff will come when things are right. The right person for the right time. It simply was not Hillary's time. She may be better in the senate taking up the mantle of Kennedy's now that his voice is weakening. We need that in that area just as much.

It's time to stop the identity politics and only worrying about self and our personal wants and start to pull ourselves into the common good.

@sirphred...and other Hillary stallwarts

You said: "The biggest mistake Obama has made was not to choose Hillary. He couldn't lose with her. He can't win without her. She'll be getting my vote by write-in. I suspect she'll get many."

My advice is to take a deep breath and think hard about this. However, I know that's going to be hard to do when your head is so far up your ass and you lack the critical faculties to actually think.

Hillary boosters that don't vote for Obama because of differences in political philosophy are completely within their rights. But any Hillary fans that don't vote for Obama because he hasn't properly kowtowed to her 'base' should be sterilized and treated like the monomaniacal braindead morons they are.

Dems Underestimate Palin at Their Peril

Palin is compelling. Watch 1) her full segment from Charlie Rose last fall; 2) her full segment on C-SPAN during the 2008 Governor's Conference; 3) her CNBC interview this past week now posted on Real Clear Politics; and 4) her Kudlow interview, also on RCP.

For me Palin is another Harriet Miers and modern-day Phyllis Schlafly. But I am a realist. I never supported HRC, but I did want Obama to choose her for VP. If it had happened, McCain might never have picked Palin, and this race would be a landslide. Now their will be a fight. Of course, we will never know all of negatives HRC would have brought to the ticket either. What the GOP would have found on Bill post-presidency.

This was a shrewd pick for McCain. However, does Palin even have basic constitutional knowledge? She wants someone to tell her what the VP does? Has she even thought about national policies, national security, foreign policy? She doesn't know what she doesn't know. McCain did not pick someone with whom he would ever consult. McCain is scary, reckless and impulsive. Where is Rummy and the "Known Knowns" and the "Unknown Knowns"?

Hilliary Voters here is your chance.

I think McCain has made a smart choice in choosing Palin . Here is a perfect opportunity for the STRONG WOMEN of the democrat party that were disrespected by their corrupt party leadership, as well as obama, to either put up or forever shut up. If you shut-up then you can plan on forever taking a backseat to men in your corrupt party. For all those STRONG WOMEN that have been stating all summer that they would never vote for obama if Clinton was not on the ticket. Well, here is your opportunity to support a female candidate, she may not stand for all issues that you do, but it does not really matter, since the democrats are going to control congress there is no way that your right to pro-choice or agreement with gay rights will be endangered, so it presents the perfect opportunity for all those that were disenfranchised by the corrupt leadership of the party via the selection of obama over the election of Clinton. Now is the time to vote for McCain like you have repeatedly threatened for months. If you don't then you will always be ran over by the male dominated hierarchy of the corrupt democrat party. Look in the mirror and ask yourself, is this poster right? I think if you are honest with yourself then you have no choice but to vote for a MCain-Palin ticket. It’s your choice and it is the future of your movement. You would be wise not to waste this opportunity if you ever expect to gain respect from the corrupt democrat party. That is exactly what this lifelong democrat is going to do. I will be voting for McCain – Palin come November.

Biden is right for the job.

As a alternate Clinton delegate in my state convention, I still feel that she is the most qualified person that we currently have for the job as president; however, I'm glad that Sen. Obama did not choose her as a running mate. We need Sen. Clinton in a job with teeth -- a cabinet position like Secretary of State or chairing the Ways and Means Committee. The important thing is that we get a Democratic administration in Washington with, hopefully, a Democratic Congress.
