clueless x2

First of all, it is interesting and perhaps amusing to note that the Catholic Sotomayor has never once openly supported reproductive rights, whether simply in her own opinion, nor in a legal opinion.

Second, did these folks not get the news that Democrats now have a filibuster-proof majority? I'm not saying I have great faith in the likes of Specter or Lieberman, but like most moderate Republicans I don't think either of them has a politically rewarding reason to oppose the appointment of an astonishingly moderate Latina justice.

You're right, Randall - that's exactly how they treat you.

But once an election is over, they discard us like an embarrassing mistress

And the election's been over for a while now. Think about that for a little while and you may be able to determine your chances of blocking Sotomayor's appointment.

How Republican senators operate.

But once an election is over, they discard us like an embarrassing mistress.

Yes, Randall Terry, they do throw you away. That is how an authoritarian mindset operates. You've been had.

We'll be waiting for them here in D.C.

This ain't Kansas, Terry. If you and your wackjobs cross into D.C., prepared to meet people who are too smart and too tough to put up with your murderous bullshit.

Monday, July 6, 2009 05:37 PM

Terry is right...

...in his own terms. The Republicans use social conservatives in exactly the same way the Democrats use progressives. Wouldn't it be nice if we had somebody as mean and nasty as Terry on our side?

Monday, July 6, 2009 06:08 PM

What a lousy Photoshop image!

Whoever superimposed the skull over Sotomayor's face is clueless. If that skull really were inside her head, she'd have an eye the size of Bart Simpson and teeth the size of Jake Busey.

Monday, July 6, 2009 10:39 PM

@steambadger no way

Wouldn't it be nice if we had somebody as mean and nasty as Terry on our side?

So then we'd just be their mirror image? Is that all it's about?

But if you're looking for spiteful and judgmental people who are given to labeling huge numbers of ordinary Americans as craven murderers, you can always count on the animal rights movement.

@Silenced: "Leonard, Part 6" was not a documentary.

But if you're looking for spiteful and judgmental people who are given to labeling huge numbers of ordinary Americans as craven murderers, you can always count on the animal rights movement.

I do not know where your obsession and dread of vegetarians and animal rights advocates comes from, but it is misguided, to say the least. Just a few days ago you accused Vasamurti of being intolerant. Vasamurti! He is one of the gentlest, most polite letter writers here at Salon, with never an unkind word to say about anyone.

Let me tell you about the animal rights advocates I know, as compared to the ones in your imagination. My best friend is very active with Amnesty International and has left Doctors without Borders over six figures in his will (I know, because I am the Executor). Another good friend volunteers once a week at a homeless shelter. Another is a teacher of disabled children. My wife volunteers her time defending the rights of abused and neglected children. I am a regular blood donor and registered as a bone marrow donor, meaning that I have committed to undergoing an operation to save the life of a stranger. I am also a volunteer emergency responder, on call 24-7, and in the winter I always carry extra pairs of gloves to give to homeless people; I also routinely buy them hot meals.

I do not tell you these things to brag, but rather to demonstrate that your sinister view of animal rights advocates is unwarranted; you focus on the nasty few, rather than the movement as a whole, and your perception even of that few is suspect, as you do not differentiate between black humor and true intent (no, the sign at the barbeque that anyone who grilled meat on the vegan grill would be roasted alive was not a literal threat). Whether than stems from an unpleasant encounter you had with a rude individual, or a direct financial interest in an animal-exploitive industry, or some other, more obscure cause, your attacks on anything having to do with vegetarianism or animal rights say far more about you than anything else.

Cogent and Compelling Reasons To Filibuster Judge Sotomayor's Confirmation

The following is a snippet of my background so that you have an idea of where I'm coming from on the issue of filibustering Judge Sotomayor's confirmation as an Associate of the Supreme Court. I've been a registered Republican for almost a half century. As a tyke, I occasionally caddied for Bush 41's father and Bush 43's paternal grandfather, Senator Prescott "Press" Bush, [CT] at The Country Club, Farmington, CT. Senator Joe "Joey" Lieberman narrowly beat my team for Boys State Governor.[CT] Mayor Mike Bloomberg of NYC and I were classmates at Johns Hopkins. During his initial NYC mayoral campaign, Mike's mother, daughters and I were the only ones who were giving Mike more than a snowball's chance in Hades.[USA Today] People still keep scurrying up to me at various airports and want to know if I'm Dick Cheney. Really! Actually, the former Vice President and I think we look more like the late Paul Newman when he was in his prime. Yeah right! Early on I learned the shortest distance between two people is laughter.

Unlike most Republicans, I'm pro-choice. While I haven't had the opportunity to meet Judge Sotomayor in person, I have little doubt that she's a very genteel and a genuinely nice person Why am I, therefore, so adamantly opposed to Judge Sotomayor's Supreme Court confirmation.

Judge Sotomayor is the epitome of a "Social Justice" judge. In my opinion, she's an ultra, far-left socialist who reads racial preferences [She's currently a member of "La Raza." La Raza translated into English means "The Race. What integral part of La Raza/The Race, therefore, isn't racist?]and quotas in every clause of the Constitution. She's a socialist activist who's determined [Hell-bent is probably more apt, definitive and descriptive]to write her own political agenda into the body of law we know as the Bill of Rights.

What makes her different from the liberals currently on the high court is that she's already demonstrably shown that she'll ignore the rule of law and make binding legal decisions based on what she perceives as "social fairness." She personifies President Obama's ill-conceived desire for a justice who, simply put, looks past the law and makes binding legal decisions based on what she perceives as "social fairness."

If we don't lay down the proverbial gauntlet, therefore, and if we open the door of the high court to social activists, the rule of law will perish and the judges will determine what the law means by merely what makes them feel good at the moment to the ultimate detriment of all Americans.
