To your health, ladies

Insurance industry tells Congress it's willing to end the practice of charging women more.

poor little men

h0tr0d

Sounds like you have insurance through an employer? Do I have that correct?

If you do, you, as a male, will pay the same as a woman.

If you were buying it on your own, you would not pay the same.

A question for you: Why do self insured have a gender differential and employer based insurance not? Could it be the pool mentality? Could it be that employers do not want to be involved in any thing that seems discriminatory?

This whole subject was how private insurance companies, in response to the prospect of government change - are responding by offering gender neutrality.

And a LARGE number of posters came on here to complain about how women have babies and use more health care than they males did, about how young unmarried males pay more CAR insurance than similar circumstanced females, about how they don't want to subsidize women, yadda yadda yadda.

This subject had nothing to do with car insurance. Nor did it have to do with men (except for the fact men would benefit just as women would from a one payer system)

@anony2

I think last count you have something like 533 letters of whining.....just saying.

I have good healthcare. My wife has good healthcare. My kids have good healthcare. My parents have good healthcare. All of my sisters and brothers have good healthcare. Yes it's expensive, but I guess when you have a job, it's affordable (I know, how asinine!). It sounds like men whine when they are treated differently as a group....women fight the honorable fight when their treated differently...how modern of you ladies ! Get a job.

PS I love women....I hate radical feminists....let's be perfectly clear about the differences. If you need an explanation, see wikipedia.

Hogging health care dollars?

This particular feminist pays out of pocket every month for insurance that doesn't cover doctor visits, medications, or yearly physicals. So any of those that come up I get to pay 100%. It allegedly pays 70% if I get hit by a bus or have a heart attack, or otherwise end up in the hospital, but we've been fighting about that since October (the best part was when I had to call the insurance company to tell them to send themselves the forms that proved that they themselves insured me before I switched plans). I'm glad that you make enough money to pay for actual health insurance instead of just crap in the hope, probably in vain, that someday when you actually have real insurance they won't be able to declare everything a pre-existing condition. I also pay the same amount as a man with the same insurance which only covers young people. I think by this logic, since it doesn't cover any pregnancy related issues or doctor visits, that I should be paying less than the men. After all, a young woman is less likely to end up in the hospital due to car accidents or a fight than a young man. But we pay the same, and I manage not to bitch about it.

That being said. The gender issues in healthcare are really a secondary issue for me in wanting universal healthcare. The system sucks and it's shameful that this country would prefer to let people who aren't so lucky die early of treatable illnesses than pay some extra taxes, and in fact save money by not paying out ridiculously to the insurance companies. It would make us more competitive, several countries are able to make products cheaper than us because they don't have to provide health insurance to their employees, the government does it, and I think everyone would live longer if they didn't have the stress of fighting with insurance companies everytime they visit the doctor in order to prove that it should be covered.

Self employed and self insured

The funny thing Annony, is that I not only have to pay for my own health insurance but my family (I earn more than my wife)my children, but a large chunk of my work forces insurance (which is largely pink collar). I also pay above average property taxes which gets spounged up by various other surplus mouths.

At least I get to go to the front of the line. Why should I want to permanently be forced to pay for these same people through some sort of progressive tax system?

What we need is for feminists to stop hogging all of the health care dollars.

self insured

Ghingis Can

Do you buy your own insurance?

If you have employer paid insurance then you are not buying your own, if the government pays for it - you are not buying your own. If you are under your parents - ditto.

Everyone (female AND male) need a better system of health care in this country.

A couple of facts might help.

Women use far more health care then men at every stage of their lives. They also out live men by about 4 to 5 years.

The insurance industry deperately wants young men to buy health insurance. In spite of car accidents, gunshot wounds and ODs they are a much better risk than the girls. Young men are the largest segment of the population without health insuance. This is one reason the insurane companis try to drop the price. It is not out of the kindness of their hearts.

I think it is time men started getting something for their money. I think it is also time we call a spade a spade. One reason Government health care is so popular among the lefties is that somebody else has the privilidge of paying for their health care. I would include feminists in this boat.

No thanks,I would rather go Dutch. Buy your own sister.

Brightstar does Shylock

Which is an image I frankly didn't need.

Rhetorical questions in bold face aren't reasoning. They're tantrums.

And can be answered very easily with more rhetorical questions.

You seem to operate on the assumption that men, either in their benevolence or their gullibility, gifted women with more than equal rights and privileges, and now they have the audacity to want MORE.

I don't buy the assumption. In fact, I walk right out of the store where people are trying to sell it.

I much prefer quality merchandise.
