Balance-balance-balance...so nothing rocks the fembot boat.
As opposed to: keep stereotypes going, the antifem boat needs them to stay afloat?
Well, maybe the show will hire a male-feminist so nothing "strong" is ever presented.
Or maybe they'll hire an antifem so that no exaggerations and misconstruals are missed. Ideally then the show will have the happy truth-seeking allure of a Bozo the Clown show.
Heaven forbit that anyone give antifemism on television (and beyond) what-for!
Now... back to hearing how "mens" suffer more than anyone else, ever... Yes, the draft, the draft, always the draft...
Yes, yes. We get it. Somehow saying there is both UP and DOWN is to negate the pull of gravity.
While someone else says that the pull of gravity negates the existence of UP and DOWN? ;)
Both. Balance. Never! Let these words never, ever cross the lips of a true antifem.
Now, back to hearing about how feminists have "all the power"...
(The point being, in case you miss it: what you wrote is just anger-filled drivel, with no points behind it other then "me no like feminism!...")
Everybody is against any 'liberal white middle class special interest groups' that pretend to speak for women, men, the poor, the disenfranchised, the teabagging crowds... In fact, the very post you're commenting on says someting about there being a lot to criticize in academia. But when you go on a tangent about "training grounds for radical feminism and major in propaganda, falsehoods and hate" (what experience do you have with them in real life? they do a lot of wrong things -- I agree; but your passion against them is also dangeorus; it reminds me of what many Europeans, especially in the post-Sovietic space, say about "American Studies" departments in their universities). The best criticism is to know what they say and critize them point by point, with names. Or else you're just as likely to be spreading yet another stereotype.
Also, the irony of people criticizing Broadsheet for being a party-line echo chamber inside the space maintained by the very people who the critic says would never allow men to voice their complaints should not go lost.
Feminism as is practiced at Broadsheet, WS and the rest of the feminist echo chamber has nothing to do with preventing what is happening in Afghanistan. What I am talking about is a liberal white middle class special interest group who pretends to speak for women. As a lifelong democrat surrounded by democratic women, I know of no women in my orbit who support this type of so called feminism. What this is is antimale, antifamily, victimhood, radical feminism which needs a different name to separate it from equal rights feminism....which all the so called antifems on this board support. Women's Studies programs are the training grounds for radical feminism and major in propaganda, falsehoods and hate....bring on the sunshine !
Being myself in academia, I have also seen some of the evils you mention (administrators with no clue as to how to teach rings a number of bells, believe me; teachers who enslave grad students or who are on a crusade for some pet theory are also in my radar screen; but I admit I haven't seen the ever-morphing chameleon students that you mentioned -- maybe it's because I'm in linguistics, not WS).
But let's also be frank about the good side. There are people sincerely interested in teaching, there are administrators who do know something about teaching and about administration (why, one I know has just managed to save his own department from financial collapse by almost single-handedly devising and implementing an ESL exchange program with South Korea that brought in profit), there are students who are not stupid and can detect bullshit when it's placed in front of them, there are researchers really interested in the truth (and sometimes obscure Elizabethan poets do fit into the large picture and do add something important that needs to be said), there are professors who have a sane and healthy relationship with their students and who actually care about their students' intellectual and professional growth, and also administrators who are OK with all religions and even agnosticism and/or atheism. They're also out there.
Having said that, I will however say that WS tends to attract the kind of Kumbayah pseudofeminists you complain against. And a lot of what they do and write should indeed be criticized.
And yes, it will be a problem to deal with the people-hating crowd who will overgeneralize from whatever problems a comedy reveal into a confirmation of their own pet conspiracy theories. I wished they would visit their local university rather than simply pretend they know what they're talking about.
Whodathunk! I mean REALLY: Male feminists don't like it when their mistresses get criticized? Say it ain't so!
It ain't so.
Now, you can stop your self-parody, and try to say something with substance.
Not that you ever have done that though.
Anything, any show that tackles the madness of academe is alright by me. Although I'm a bit worried about the specific focus on women's studies because of the crackpot validation the wholly uneducated nutjobs will whoop about because they ignorantly view women's studies as a Shakespearean stewpot of lesbian witches who hate all men, many WS programs, as well as academe as a whole, is indeed elitist, the behaviors are petty, and there is a whole seamy underbelly that needs to be exposed. If you haven't seen it yet, I think it was Emily who said this, then just wait. Someone will open your eyes eventually but hopefully not.
I'm a lesbian feminist academic of color and hope that HBO will take into account the Kumbayah psuedofeminists who are fine with everything as long as they can not talking about lesbianism, racism, disability, religion, etc. unless it's somehow framed in a safe New Age-y way.
Academe can be great, but we have colleagues who do barely any work under the guise of researching some obscure Elizabethan poet for 30 plus years, others who terrorize their students with counting down the days until they retire--in the lecture halls, skirtchasing men (and sometimes women) who sexually harass students in overt and covert ways. Administrators who have no clue what it's like to teach and have never set foot in a classroom; teachers who are in the classroom who have no idea how to teach, WS teachers who are really missionary recruiters of graduate students to help them save little brown people under the guise of "research", terrorist professors who enslave their graduate students and treat them like 3rd World sweat shop labor, overly earnest graduate students who are intellectually and sexually confused and morph like a bloody chameleon every other week in regards to clothing, friends, and academic studies, leering, sneering fundamentalist adminstrators who withhold WS funding, talk about the Lord every day of the week, and cheat on their spouses with students, faculty or anyone they can find...
Cynical. Nope! Just giving those who don't know a slice of our lives. I am sick to death of watching crime shows, so-called "gritty urban dramas" like The Wire. Someone deserves a huge pat on the back for trying something different.
And you women-hating right-wing folks who aren't really familiar with Women's Studies should go visit your local WS program, especially if you're a woman. Sunshine! You betcha! Bring it on! Maybe the light will eradicate a good amount of hypocrisy that exists in those WS programs who keep on emulating what the boys do.
