especially since IWD is a big deal in post-Soviet countries. As for being based on a bad event, so was May 1st. I don't know; maybe it's like Halloween, which became an important thing in America but not so much in Europe until American movies started making it important. Mere historical coincidence. (Someone might claim it was part of an anti-Soviet tendency, but I think this would be going too far.) The same goes for men's day, by the way. (Interestingly, men's day was not a big deal in Soviet countries, where they preferred soldier's day as a celebration of masculinity.)
Why is IWD not a Big Deal among women, if not men, in the U.S.? Yeah, I know that the day was inspired by a bad thing that happened in the U.S. But why would that put off rather than inspire women's organizations in the U.S.? Why would U.S. women not eagerly embrace the opportunity to join their sisters around the world in proclaiming their unity and courage?
So what color flowers should one share?
How about an International Reproductive Rights Day
for BOTH women and men?
Oh yeah, only women get rights and freedoms. Sorry, I'll slink back to my FIFTH CLASS STATUS as a male.
Yes, it's not like the religious fundies and the age-old anti-sex stereotypes have anything to do with that...
Thanks, I didn't know that.
The title of your last message sure supports your non-anger claim, I imagine... But OK, to each one his own definitions.
What did you tell me so again -- or anybody else? I'd just like to know in what way I made you happy. It always brightens my day :-)
As the cartoon grandmother in "Stone Soup" said, "I'll make the cake."
How many times do you need to be instructed that I am not angry ? Project much ? I would say I am happy to once again say...especially to you...I told you so.

used to be a Rhihannah would get off and get away with beating her boyfriend first.
now, society is waking to the fact that women can be vile AND dishonest. Because she never told ANYONE that she was the one who started the physical brawl.
Guys are finally waking up from the spiderweb women had tried to trap men in, is all I can say. Goodie.
how about a Peoples' Day?
and never mind mothers day, make it Parents' Day.
the only ones who support always splitting women off and giving them preferential treatment are the women, who seem to get off on generating new tricks and ways to benefit from the thankless toil of the men around them.
How about a National Sex Fun Day? Maybe men can get a free handjob or something, ala Idiocracy.
Internationally, women fare on average much better than men. Men die by droves compared to women, in wars, in harsh labor, in abject poverty, in neglect.
If anything, International Mens' Day ought to be celebrated, to treat all the good men of the world to some heartfelt thanks for all that they do to maintain society and to keep women protected, healthy, and able to enjoy life.
There is an International Men's Day. It's November 19th. It garners approximately the same amount of attention as International Women's Day: virtually none.

The time will come. Why so much badly concealed anger?... Meanwhile, no thoughts on women's day?
Come on Rebecca, we want a follow up to the Rihanna story. Now that there are reports Rihanna lashed out first with multiple blows while Chris Brown was driving. C'mon girls, we know you can dig something out of this....think of it as Duke redux.
with flowers for all women in one's family. Apparently elsewhere it isn't really that much of a day in general. A pity... just as it is a pity that there isn't a men's day.
