Happy Sanctity of Human Life Day

Bush declares a national day to honor the "unborn" -- and conveniently ignore the dead.

The letters thread is now closed.

Screw him and the unborn fetus he rode in on.

I guess he figured he'd go out in a big, stupid, pandering, idiotic blaze of moronity.

I'm with Sparky... don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out, George... SLAM!

Human Life Is "Sacred"

Perhaps we should say that all life is sacred, since we are but a part of an ecological system not fully understood by anyone.

Actually, a world totally devoid of humans would be better off but that is yet to be determined. Let's hope humanity survives itself long enough to figure it out.

The word "sacred" is meaningless unless you are a Believer in a devine being that writes messages on stone tablets and speaks only to official, ordained representatives wearing robes, crosses, and fine jewelry.

Obscene in the extreme

Even if one qualifies by use of the word "innocent", which is so often seized upon by so-called "pro-life" advocates when asked why, for example, they support the death penalty, the obscenity persists. The innocent life lost in places such as Iraq, Somalia and Pakistan (to name three), by a country purporting to defend its national security, can never be forgiven.

That these killers in high places can publicly utter the phrase "sanctity of human life" is more than ample evidence of a complete absence of conscience.

That's my farewell kiss, you dog!

That is a stunning example of mental illness right there.

It wouldn't be Salon.com w/o the most insane ranting against the Jews imaginable

I'm just following the script. If you have a problem with that ask Joan Walsh for a bit of transparency on who exactly are the key investors and decision makers here.

Agh

He is just being annoying until the very damn end. Scrub honors the unborn because they haven't seen the s**t that he'd done to those that are ALREADY living. Just go away, Scrub.

I'm thinking of the perfect shoe picture.

It is a digital-camo-clad leg, in a desert-tan combat boot, stepping on the Hamas flag and a picture of the bloated, captured Khalid Sheikh Muhammad.

Now THAT'S a shoe picture.

The Gifts of Science

Note the oblique reference to embryonic stem cell research:

America is a caring Nation, and our values should guide us as we harness the gifts of science. In our zeal for new treatments and cures, we must never abandon our fundamental morals. We can achieve the great breakthroughs we all seek with reverence for the gift of life.*

Why don't you just come out and say you're against embryonic stem cell research, Mr. President? Is it because most of the country (including many Republicans) are for it? I thought popularity and opinion polls didn't matter to you...

Meanwhile, embryos "aren't person[s] waiting to be born." The womb isn't some waiting room where you read old copies of Reader's Digest. Embryos aren't just miniature people waiting to get bigger (we know this through "the gifts of science"). In fact, you can believe an embryo is something of value deserving protection without acting like it's just a shrunken person. That so many opponents of abortion use that slight of hand is telling--they fear that if people knew what a first trimester (when 90% of abortions occur) fetus was really like developmentally, fewer people would support limiting women's reproductive choices.

Excellent idea, Elephantman!

That business about a picture of "a desert-tan combat boot, stepping on the Hamas flag and a picture of the bloated, captured Khalid Sheikh Muhammad."

So when do you put on your combat boots? I used to cram mine into the sleeping bag with me during winter manuevers so that damned leather wouldn't freeze to the consistency of sheet metal. Anyway, I was browsing College Republican web sites one fine day when I saw a picture posted at the UCCS College Republican web site of a fresh-faced boy holding a crudely made sign that read "Give War a Chance." Are you signing up to join the march of freedom, or are you still busy with law school?

By the way, what's this about you adviocating tax increases? That was when you were discussing CAFE standards for automobiles, and saying the European approach of increasing fuel costs with taxes is much more sound. Am I to understand that our beloved Elephantman is now (gasp!) advocating taxes and (double gasp!) doing so because the Europeans do so?

Say it ain't so! :->

Sounds like an antisemitic Jew hater to me.

Typical Zionist antisemite. They make a sockpuppet account, cut and paste the worst type of antisemitic trash they can find, then claim that that other people "Hate Jews", and somehow think it makes a stronger case for 100% American Support for Israel.

And yet, the only time I see the ranting you're talking about it is by you or "Johnny Chrome" or others of your ilk right here in the letters.

Not a one of you with a brain cell.

Friday, January 16, 2009 09:28 AM

It's like they want people to become antisemites

Talk about self-destructive behavior. That's Zionism for you.

Let's make Harding happy

I suggest we can honor all those on her list with a new Tiresome, Screeching, Knee-Jerk Harpy Hack Day...

I'm just following my Glenn Greenwald bullet list

If you have an issue with Salon's editorial stance, please take it up with them. Or, as is more your style, blame it on the zionist control of all media.

Friday, January 16, 2009 09:49 AM

space alien, thanks for proving my point

Or, as is more your style, blame it on the zionist control of all media.

Which was:

They make a sockpuppet account, cut and paste the worst type of antisemitic trash they can find, then claim that that other people "Hate Jews"

Now run along and make another new account to spread your antisemitic filth.

Friday, January 16, 2009 09:54 AM

So, why didn't they outlaw abortion?

Well, without abortion and blaming gays, the Republicans can't get elected.

Friday, January 16, 2009 10:09 AM

oh shut up

there are national days for all kinds of things; just because this one is so specific does not mean that no other forms of life are honored

stop trying to pick a fight on Every.Single.Issue

I love Salon, but this is just ridiculous

people disagree with you, obviously I'm one of them, but there's no need to be so blatantly disrespectful to people who hold opinions contrary to yours

if ya'll are really soooo evolved and intelligent here, pick up a copy of "pluralism"; you need some lessons

Clean-hands moralism

I have a few thoughts on the topic. See my blog (name link).
