allow us to deny medical treatment intended to prolong the lives of asshole Republicans? 'Cause then I'd support it.
I don't get it. If Bush can make these rules with a snap of the fingers, why can't Obama just reverse them the same way?
Make it a blanket reversal- all rules made after November 4 get reversed, regardless of their merit.
Even though Obama can't overturn this ridiculousness with the stroke of a pen, Congress should be able to kill the regulation. Under the Congressional Review Act, they can vote to overturn the clause, without fear of fillibuster. ('Course, it will take a spine or two to do it, but it's entirely doable).
Let's pretend, shall we?
I am a licensed pharmacist. I am also a practicing Jehovah's Witness. As such, I do not believe in blood transfusions, or organ transplants (http://www.wfial.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=artJws.article_2)
This hasn't really been a problem, since I live and work in a small town, and no one has ever received a donated organ.
Until today.
Now this person wants their prescription for anti-rejection drugs to be filled at my pharmacy. They've lost their pills, and need more today. I can not support this: I've searched my conscience, asked for guidance from God, and determined that organ donation is a form of cannibalism. So I refuse.
The organ recipient needs those drugs, and has very limited mobility. There is no other pharmacy in town, or nearby, and the other pharmacist in my company is on vacation. It will take several days for this person to get the meds somewhere else, during which time, they could become quite sick.
Would this law protect me, should this patient (or their surviving family) sue me? Would the "culture of life" support me in taking a strong moral stand against what I know to be wrong? Would I be viewed as a dedicated professional,as well as a dedicated person of faith? Or would I be viewed as an unprofessional idealogue who inappropriately interfered with a person's medical care? (Ding! Ding! Ding!)
So. Is this really about "conscientious objection" or is it about eradication women's reproductive rights?
Thought so.
Because I can't, in good conscience, continue to monetarily support our fascist overlords and their wicked ways.
And that's just money. We're actually talking about witholding medical care here.
"That's OK, doc. I can't in good conscience pay your bill either. 'Cause you're such a jerk."
That was spot on. Thank you.
Great comment Julibird.
Here's another senario: As a fundamentalist Christian, I believe in sex only between married couples. Therefore, I refuse to fill any prescriptions for Viagra for any unmarried men. Gonna happen? Can't even imagine it.
Let's see: We're all free to be and do as we choose...unless we choose to do what others don't want us to. Clear as mud.
Men, compelled to register with Selective Service, aren't spared that obligation by saying, "It's my body, my choice!" Feminists, however, think their "bodies" entitle them to something...which ain't true. When you descend from hermit caves to live with others certain rules obtain. Who determines what's fair in such circumstances?
If women can abort if/when they choose then men should also be able to opt out of parenthood. Tax everyone and create a pool for women to tap who want to keep their kids when co-creators of feti doesn't feel "ready" to handle parenthood. And let men similarly be publicly supported when THEY choose to raise bio-lumps women would rather flush down toilets. Help each gender equally so each sex has true choice.
Today men have no representation per replication: A true tyranny. Yahoos who say "He should have kept his pants on!", who treat him severely and contemptuously, bend over backwards to let every woman off the hook ("She's so upset!" and "Why force her to raise an unwanted child?," etc.). They see her as a child who can't be held accountable, the male as an adult who must fall on the sword no matter what. Men, after all, are rats without feelings in most feminist estimations.
So...does anyone really think men are going to put up with such biased, sexist claptrap forever?
If the economy continues to tank, if jobs suddenly become scarce, look for male indulgences of feminist selfishness to end pronto. You can count on it.
When that happens "rough-tough-equal" womyn will act meek. Just like they do when power-lines go down during ice storms. Girlzzzz rush to "man" phones and make coffee... "letting" guys go out into the wind and cold and "elements" to fix things. Why should men continue doing the hard stuff when women can force them into fatherhood (financially and otherwise) without caring a jot how males, as humans, feel?
Having a vagina doesn't obviate responsibility. Nor does it preclude having to act equally. If wimmin climb pedestals to gain gynocentric perks they should know they can easily be knocked off them, Saddling men with unilateral burdens will last about as long as other recent permanencies...like the Berlin Wall, USSR, etc.
Men can be patient, but only to a point. Then they rebel. angry at being played for saps.
Roman emperors thought their empires would last forever, too. Feminists would be wise to learn some historical lessons and start listening to the other half of the world. After all, the day enough men think "women's rights" are anti-male is the day those rights end.
Women's groups talk and talk to get their way. They've met with little or no organized male resistance. Yet recall: Over 20.000 British MEN died on the first day of just one battle in WWI (Somme)...yet the UK army kept fighting. Men know how to take hits and continue on. I"m not sure the women's movement does. It's faced no "real" resistance (unlike blacks who were shot, killed, burned, lynched, dog-bitten, etc. on THEIR quest to equality). So it might well last only a day if/when confronted with actual opposition.
Just sayin'....
PS. How odd (but predicable) that feminists want to force conscientious medical objectors to perform abortions or dispense pills "because it's the law...yet feel free to disobey, ignore, bypass, and thwart any laws that limit abortions.
