...as anyone who's been financially f^ed over in a "loving" relationship will tell you. Once that happens to you, it's very hard to fault people like Melissa and her friend. Are they happy with their "relationship"? That's more than I can say for most people in a "traditional" relationship, who seem to enjoy spending their time complaining about their s.o., thereby proving to spinsters like me that we've made the right decision.
In the same vein, I've been out on several dates lately where the guy mentioned none-too-subtly the financial bonuses of coupledom: "They can afford this nice house with a pool since they've got two incomes." etc. Is that the new pick-up line now: "Hey, you hot woman with the above-median income for your gender!"? Clearly we are in a bad recession.
