Hot for the "First Dude"

Why are some women proclaiming their love for Todd Palin?

The letters thread is now closed.

Yep, he's hot.

Not knowing him at all makes it hard to tell, but my very superficial judgment is that he's smokin'.

I heart Todd Palin xoxoxo

I'll take a quietly confident redneck any day! He’s not “wife beater” macho, he’s “secure in his manhood” macho. Authentic masculinity is super sexy and his facial features are ruggedly handsome. Isn't he part Native American too? Todd Palin makes me melt!

I really don't get it

Speaking as a guy, I don't understand the fuss about either of the Palins' looks. Both of them strike me as reasonably attractive, but no more. Apparently we've grown so used to ugly politicians that even "moderately good looking" equates to "smokin' hot" in that world.

I can think of only two really beautiful people who have been associated with national politics lately: John Edwards and Michelle Obama. Other than that, the field of Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates and their families hasn't offered much in the way of eye candy. There are some lookers at the lower levels (House of Representatives, and state and local politics.) I suspect that being too good-looking is actually a liability when it comes to Senatorial and Presidential politics -- it's unfair, but we tend to suspect very attractive people of lacking gravitas. Sorry, Sarah and Todd and your fan clubs, but you're not going to break this trend.

The First Dude is hot, indeed!

The only real flaw I've noticed is his lousy taste in women.

Tuesday, October 28, 2008 07:37 PM

What is the male equivalent of the Sarah Palin Fuck Doll?

I honestly do not know. Is there a market for blowup Todds?

(And he strikes me as incredibly scuzzy, in an I-Know-Somebody-and-I'm-Gonna-Get-Your-Ass-Fired-Buddy way.)

Hot or not?

Yes, Todd Palin is a good looking guy with a nice smile, and he is just at that optimal age when men look at their best before middle age sets in. I think many women would find him attractive.

Sarah, though is grossly overrated, at least as seen from the viewpoint of this heterosexual man. Not hot at all. Even if it were not for Tina Fey, she would still look like a caricature of female homo sapiGOPensis. Even as Ms. Wasilla 1984 she is not terribly hot. Well, maybe hot for Alaska, but she is no tropical fruit oozing with sweet juices.

Totally not my type

I go for tall, intellectual guys ... like my husband! I can see why some women think Todd Palin is sexy, but he just doesn't do much for me.

Tuesday, October 28, 2008 08:01 PM

Uh, no, sorry

I have a strict requirement about intelligence. Neither Sarah nor Todd qualify. Ignorance is repulsive in a person, no matter how pretty the package.

Tuesday, October 28, 2008 08:24 PM

Err, umm, yeah, i dig him

As a stay-at-home dad, I like the fact that Todd Palin elevates family considerations to the national stage. Do I think that his wife will make life better for me? No. But as a guy who takes care of kids I like the fact that Todd is onstage holding a baby--and, btw, he looks more natural doing than does his wife.

Tuesday, October 28, 2008 08:24 PM

based on appearance

Todd Palin is a reasonably attractive man for his age. Nothing special.

Sarah Palin, though, I just don't get. The glazed-over cow eyes completely overwhelm any other attribute. Tina Fey as Sarah Palin is hot: Sarah Palin is not.

You're kidding, right?

Many years ago, I was working at a big, and fairly famous, bookstore in West Los Angeles. One day, a woman came in and piled up about $450.00 worth of books. She said she was buying them as a gift for us to ship to someone in prison. I thought that was pretty cool, and happily helped her out. Imagine the bout of gooseflesh-y horror that hit me when she gave me the prison address, and then the name of the guy...Lyle Menendez.

Yep. That Lyle Menendez.

You ask why women find Todd Palin (*yech*) attractive? Honey, some women will fuck ANYBODY.

Smug Goatee

Something about those neatly trimmed goatees, surrounding a smirk of unjustified self-satisfaction, just makes me want to punch the wearer's face into jello.

But that's just me.

I have rage issues.

Lovin the superficial

Well since we r all giving our 2 cents on campaign hotties (not just Todd *swoon*) here r my other votes:

Bristol Palin

Bristol Palin’s baby daddy

I like girls, but...

I can see why many women would find him visually sexy.

I can see why many women would find things in his history sexy.

But then, if I was only thinking with my gonads, I would find Sarah Palin smokin' hot.

I don't. I find her repulsive. In just about every way.

So I would hope that the women I interact with and am attracted to would not find him sexy.

In fact, that may be a good screening question: How do you feel about Todd Palin? It would help me clarify whether a woman thinks the way I think, and whether or not it is worth the time to pursue her.

Tuesday, October 28, 2008 09:05 PM

It's an age of superlatives...

...understatement is dead and buried. "Smokin hot" simply means gels his hair, shaves occasionally, no ugly disfigurations, doesn't drool.

Tuesday, October 28, 2008 09:15 PM

in principle...

He's a big, strong outdoorsman who once worked a blue-collar job in the oil fields. At the same time, he's a stay-at-home dad who supports his high-achieving wife's very public ambitions. While he's not exactly my type, I assume that his appeal comes from the rare (in the public sphere, at least) combination of perceived virility and sensitivity that he embodies.

Yeah, that type does it for me.

Todd Palin, specifically? Not so much. I like my big, strapping outdoorsmen to also have some integrity and to be responsible, patriotic American citizens (i.e., not to use their spousal relationships for personal gain or, say, to ADVOCATE SECEDING FROM THE UNITED STATES).

Tuesday, October 28, 2008 09:37 PM

Doesn't Trip My Trigger

Although I think my mom thinks he's better than average looking. If we're talking government hotties, I'm casting a vote for Chuck Hagel. And Rahm Emanuel. And Barack Obama.

Tuesday, October 28, 2008 09:57 PM

I don't get it either

I'm a straight guy, and I'm not overly restricted in terms of the women to whom I'm attracted. I see various good points in all the flavours. Sarah Palin though, just doesn't do it for me, and for me most women do, regardless of their politics.

Now Todd. Todd is strictly ordinary. There's dudes that look just like him all over the world. They're available in a range of colours and hairstyles, but they come from one factory and they all look the same, ultimately. I guess if I were guy inclined I could see being involved with someone who looks like him, but that would be driven by love, not lust. Anyway, g-sus, he's happily married to noted intellectual Sarah Palin - and she's the brains of the operation! He must be as dumb as a post. It's nice that he takes care of his kids, but then again so what - they're HIS kids. Should he get a medal for brushing HIS teeth?

Other American politicians/ public figures? John Edwards was very pretty, I could see making a fuss about his looks. John Roberts (Supreme Crt) also easy on the eyes. I think Pelosi is quite toothsome. Cindy McCain has an interesting kind of an Ice Queen thing. But Todd and Sarah? Nah!
