Shield Dan Quayle!

The McCain Campaign may not want Sarah Palin talking because "she has no goddamn clue," but the they think they can get away with shielding her because she's a woman.

They can claim that the press is being unfair, mean, sexist or insufficiently "deferential." They wouldn't even try this with an under-qualified male candidate (Dan Quayle, anyone?).

eh - not impressed

Brown wasn't decrying sexism. She was attempting a passive-aggressive goad. She should have just gone for the aggressive goad -- this "sexism" thing just made her look kind of weak.

I would have preferred a "whatsa matter, your girl too dumb to talk to us?"

Clever Tack

It is fairly sexist what McCain is doing. Also fairly elitist. He's saying that because Palin is a woman and an idiot, she's not suitable to talk to the press. Women and idiots the world over should take great offense at this.

Her handlers should follow her around with a day-bed

so she can pretend to faint whenever someone asks her a hard question.

Brown positioned this perfectly

as a straight commentary. Leave the "wink/wink, nudge/nudge" to others.

Campbell Brown saying what we all are thinking!

As a women, I'm annoyed and disgusted by the over protection of Sarah Palin by the sexist McCain campaign. My God, this women if John McCain wins is one heartbeat away from the presidency and her "handlers" ( SOUNDS SO HOLLYWOOOD!!!)are orchestrating her every move. If she can't handle the media press than how can we expect she will be able to handle a summit of world leaders discussing a national security issue. She calls herself a pitbull with lipstick, which by the way as a proud dog owner is known as a word that rhymes with "witch", so therefore, she should have no problem handling the media, right??? Well no, the campaign by these actions this week have made it clear to me and most self respecting women that Palin is no more than a 2nd Place Beauty Queen, propped up on a float to give off the air that while she is to be seen, it would be a disaster to have her heard. Don't spoil the moment, eh?? In a way, I commend the campaign for being so up front about the lack of substance their candidate brings. She's all fluff and stuff and if you've ever had whipped cream, you know it's just all sweet, light and full of air. Good points Campbell!

Somewhere I hear Crickets...

It was satisfying to see Campbell Brown address sexism connected to Palin though the rant was flawed. On the other hand, the pit bull with lipstick is sure quiet while on her trip to NYC. I work in NYC and was expecting some kind of major press conference or an address the UN Council or something similar. But all I hear are the usual traffic noises and crowds of beloved and ever active NYC. I'm really surprised that a city and world leaders could shut her up. Must be culture shock to see so many people in such a giant city with no wolves to kill. Too bad it's temporary. As soon as she gets back to small towns, she'll be loud as hell as again. Typical.

This is not sexism...

Palin is just plain dumb. That's why they don't want her answering any questions. If they had picked a man with the same experience and intellect as Palin, they would probably be doing the same thing. Dumb is dumb no matter the gender.

lol

Some how this coming from Campbell Brown just does not cut it.

Not sure it's sexist

Based on the NPR story I heard this morning, it's not a sexist decision. The McCain campaign seems to be withdrawing from answering media questions all around. According to the story, McCain himself has spent significantly less time time answering reporters questions in the past month, leading some reporters to ask, "Has your bus become the No Talk Express?" Apparently the reporter didn't get an answer.

Of Course It's Sexist

I don't think Sarah Palin is dumb, but I don't think she's qualified to be next in line for the presidency. Neither does John McCain, that cynical bastard.

We've all seen this movie a hundred times - coach her, dress her up, trot her out, and hope that she can remember her lines and how to deliver them. Then when she can't take the tight leash any longer, she reveals her true self and we all see the true gem hidden behind the carefully crafted image.

Of course, it's sexist as hell. It's also a frequently visited Hollywood fantasy. As Republicans like to remind us, Washington has no use for Hollywood. Until now, apparently.

Let her talk - we can't be expected to buy a pig in a poke while facing this many serious problems. We all know she isn't qualified to be president.

And given this represents his first major decision, John McCain isn't qualified to be president.

Bush league

Palin's visit to the UN was reminiscent of Take Your Daughter To Work Day. Unlike some, I think Palin's smart, certainly articulate, but she simply doesn't have a lot of raw materials, either experienced or learned, to work with. Unfortunately, dogma fills the void that would have been better filled with intellectual curiosity.

Not Sexism

I view this "editorial" as humor. If I viewed it any other way my head might explode. But if I WERE to view it as a serious piece and felt like arguing the point...

I would say this is more dumbist that sexist. This has nothing to due with what she possess below the neck, but rather what she lacks above it.

Follow the wedding ring

Campbell Brown is married to Dan Senor. Dan Senor is a former advisor to Mitt Romney and a Faux New talking head.

Now I don't know about the rest of you liberals and Democrats, but I would never have married, or even had sex with, a conservative or a Republican; that's because I despise their worldviews. Setting aside the weirdness that is the Carville-Matalin marriage, I think most marriages are like mine in that respect.

Ergo, why be surprised if Campbell Brown spouts Republican nonsense. It's what she believes.

I cannot take people seriously who don't know the difference between the singular and the plural!

Case in point: nubian, you are not a women. There is no such thing as a women. There are groups of women, to be sure, but each individual of said group must, by definition, be a woman. Now, I know the root of this is sexist, but the fact is that the root of the word 'woman' is 'man.' I am a man. You wouldn't take me seriously if I called myself a men, because that would be stupid, since 'men' is the plural form of 'man,' and most English speakers know this, I think. I hope.

Yet I constantly see individual women out here on the interwebs call themselves 'a women.' This is a major pet peeve for me. Using 'a' to precede a word denotes a singular. To follow a singular denotation with a plural form of a word just drives me crazy.

In the name of gender equality, I propose that we swap the meanings of the word 'man' and 'human.' I am not saying that women aren't human, because they most assuredly are. I know, I lust after many of them, and love one in particular, and I am a staunch specist. However, I think that using the word 'man' as a root, then giving each gender a prefix, will make it more equitable for all parties concerned. That way we would all be 'men,' some of us 'humen,' (a new word! Yay!), others 'women.' By the same token, I propose that we rip off Google and use the word 'male' as a root, and then we could have 'females and 'gmales.'
