The grass is

Red.

No I don't care.

Not only do I not care, I can't believe I clicked through after reading the lead on the front page. Isn't there some economic melt-down out there?

Blink 183?

Sarah, is this the point where you finally realize just how old you're getting? Kinda like those people who say "the Google?" As much as I wish I didn't have them etched in my head from involuntary overexposure in high school, it's Blink 182.

It's significant because of its lack of significance

It's interesting simply for it's lack of surprise/shock/salaciousness. I guess there are some folks who are going to pounce on the "two chicks kissing" angle, but mostly it seems to be a non-event, which is remarkable in its own right. Kind of like Doogie Howser when he came out. The reaction seemed to be a universal "Oh! Well! That's nice!"

Or maybe it's just a non-event because she's a has-been. But I hope not. Well, I don't not-hope that she's a has-been, I hope I'm right about it's insignificance-significance. Or something. On a human level, I guess it's nice that she's figured her shit out before she died in a car crash or OD'd or something. She really did slide off the rails there for a while.

This is SOOOO interesting!!!

Tell me more!!!

By the way, Anne Heche was 'once' gay?

But if it was an ADAM Heche instead, you can bet his prior gay exploits would paint him as always gay, even if he only dated women the rest of his life.

Nothing groundbreaking

This doesn't mean anything for America's gays and lesbians. The beautiful and feminine lesbian has always been the loophole of homophobia, mostly because extroverted homophobia is almost monopolized by straight men, and apparently hot lesbians are attractive.

Of course nobody's reacting. In locker rooms and homes across America the news is flashing across television screens while the room gets slightly awkward and the men grow whimisical at the mental image of Lohan the Lesbian instead of railing against same sex marriage.

Inasmuch as celebrity outings matter sociopolitically (i.e., they don't,) this outing is among the least qualified to serve as a litmus test for American feelings towards homosexuality.

I don't really care, but I wish Lindsay well

I don't follow the lives of celebrities, and I don't care about their sexual preferences. I read your article because you asked the question, "Do we care?" and because I wanted see whether you could provide any reason why I should care about Lindsay Lohan's current relationship. The only compelling thing that struck me is that Lindsay has been troubled and self-destructive, and now that she seems happier and more sane, we should be happy for her. But that doesn't really have anything to do with her sexual preferences. I do care about Lindsay about as much as I care about anyone I don't know personally (celebrity or not), and I wish her all the best. If you're really asking us how we feel about it, that pretty much sums up how I feel.

Just out of curiosity, did Lindsay actually say that she's a lesbian, or did she merely confirm that she is currently in a relationship with a woman? Did she rule out the possibility that she is bisexual or the possibility that she might date a man in the future? I'm just wondering if people are jumping to conclusions about her sexual orientation and if it might result in a new "controversy" down the road. That sort of thing keeps the tabloids in business, but we don't need that, do we?

Lady Flowers?

Really?

Suddenly, I am reminded of one of the funniest phrases for peeing I have ever heard - "shake the dew off the lily". I think someone from the UK or Australia offered that one up during a drunken 3am discussion in Barcelona with various nationalities offering up the different idioms from their countries for taking a slash / draining the lizard.

I may be OT but surely this is at least as interesting as any post about LL.

I don't think anyone really cares

The celebs that come out is rather passe now a days. Even Britney supposedly had her same sex flings. Plus as someone mentioned a hot girl who comes out as having a relationship with a woman is the homophobe loophole. It's no more striking than when Megan Fox of Transformers fame came out and said she had a relationship with a female stripper. Big whoop, now she's engaged to Brian Austin Green.

Maybe Lindsay is lesbian, maybe she is bi, maybe this a one time thing.

I more flabbergasted by the talented comment. I'm not sure she's talented, either her famous persona colors her roles or it just seems like whenever I watch her to me she seems like she's trying really hard to be that character instead of just being that character.

did i overlook it?

...in all these discussions, why don't i ever see the (scary to most of us) word "bisexual"? it's as though LL has to be either gay (with a woman) or straight (with a man) when it seems pretty clear to me that she's bisexual, yeah? along with SH, yeah, this is old news. I mean i presume most people who go out sort of knew these two were an item when they started up over a year ago. but i don't think i've seen any of the endless blogging and reporting mention that LL's probably bi if she even cares to categorize any of this. and really that's up to her.

i care about these two because no one's been shamefully hiding anything. they just are. how cool an indication is that about how far we've come?

The ONLY good thing

About the "All Sarah Palin All the Time" coverage since August 29th is that I haven't had to hear much about Lindsay Lohan.

I would willingly know nothing about her, except like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, if you follow any sort of news on the Internet, there's no escaping hearing about them even unintentionally.

The Only Gay Folks Some People Know

Here is my unsolicited dos centavos on Lindsey and Sam.

There are parts of this country where you are very unlikely to ever knowingly see or meet or gay person.

For these people the only images they get are flashes of gay pride parades on the 700 club, late night episodes of Monty Python, and rumors and inuendos about Oprah, Hillary, and (give it time) Sarah.

But now, the tabloids are telling a differnt story. It's about a troubled young person who just needed the love of a good woman to set them right. For every person who out in the great red empty who shook their head and wondered where Lindsey's parents were, they now see a positive face of homosexual love. Two women, being strong for one another, being strait for one another, and like Johnny Cash for June walking the line.

That changes the story of Homosexuals in our country. It might not be pretty, and it certainly is no Jackie Robinson story (though that was probably less cinematic when it was real life too) but it is the first fleeting glimpse of a loving healthy homosexual relationship that many people may or will ever see. And if that continues to change the tenor of american society, then two young women have done more for our nation than all the politicians in Washington.
