Learn, Barack

The Planned Parenthood folks got it right: sharp, smart and intense. Learn and emulate, Obama campaign.

Whoa

By the way, courtesy of HuffPost, here's one hell of a quote (apparently, there's a recording of this as well) to use in the next Obama ad:

"I didn't decide to run for president to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in or to run a campaign as if it were some grand act of patriotism. In truth, I wanted to be president because it had become my ambition to be president. . . In truth, I'd had the ambition for a long time." - John McCain

Obama campaign, clip, save, and use alongside the Robert Greenwald video of the fellow POW who says McCain has too short a fuse to be trusted with his finger on the button.

weak ad

If you are going to be a 527, be a 527.

Obama supported teaching our children how to protect themselves from sexual predators. And now McCain is attacking Obama for that.

That makes sense. McCain's allies in congress such as Mark Foley and Larry Craig don't want children to know how to protect themselves. And neither do the sexual predators that want to rape and kill your children.

McCain is a man that represents the interests of child rapists. And maybe he is one...

I Second Pacificwhim

The Obama campaign needs to swiftly and repeatedly chant the McCain-will-do-anything-to-win line. Hit 'em hard, hit them with short, to the point messages that confront the blantant lies. Rinse and repeat.

Over and over again throughout the months of September and October. This is how the right wing echo machine works and this is how Obama can neutralize all of their lies.

good ad

wish it had come from the Obama campaign directly... but I'll take this too

Planned Parenthood

I do have to wonder how many people, after seeing that the ad was put out by Planned Parenthood, will say to themselves, "Why should I believe that bunch of baby killers?" I mean, after reading Dan Hoyle's disheartening article today (http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2008/09/12/obama_doubts/), I can't say I have much faith in American voters.

Not a fan of either ad

Planned Parenthood should not get involved, and I'm a large financial support of them.

I don't don't like the McCain ad. It's a distraction, and I don't think McCain really believes that Obama means for 5 year olds to be taught comprehensive sex education.

That said, SB 99 does specifically state that age appropriate sex education to be taught for grades K-12. Yes, it also mentions warning about sexual predators, but the language of the bill should have read 6-12, not K-12. It should have been modified to K-5 can be taught about sexual predators. The bill was poorly written, and Obama was the chair.

To make matters worse, on July 17, 2008 on video, Obama said teaching kinder-gardeners sex education was "the right thing to do" so he does leave himself open to these type of attacks. I just wish McCain wouldn't have taken the opening.

Now, in the video, I'm more than willing to parse and twist Obama's words so that when he said, "it was the right thing to do" he's actually referring to the entire comprehensive sex education, and not the little tangent he went on about Keyes attacking him on this issue. It was exceedingly poor wording on his part, and it takes no distortion of what he said, but I think Obama meant something else.

It does become increasingly hard for Obama to claim victim when his campaign has twisted McCain's words, and in this issue, at best it could be said that McCain has twisted what Obama meant. I big difference between the two.

I think they should write a...

stern letter to McNasty. I'm sure that will work as well.
Nasty lie after nasty lie repeated for a full day by the GOP... err Corporate (Oh what the hell let's quit pretending there is a difference) media will be, like, totally counteracted by a response that nobody sees. That'll show 'em.

Onward, Christian Soldiers

The voting bloc known as ignorant-Christian-who's-hung-up-about-sex is not changing its mind. Here's their world wiew: Sex...life-begins-at-conception...contraception not God's plan...dinosaurs didn't fit on the Ark...where'd I leave my handgun? Women with bangs, good. Sex...maybe I can score after the church picnic.

I would be more upset...

...that anyone assumes children aren't taught to read in Kindergarten.

But then again I'm a liberal elitist, so what do I know?

In case the repubs don't lile the advert...

.... remind them that President Bush's grandfather was one of the founders of Planned Parenthood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prescott_Bush).

However much I like fair play

I think we all must agree with the first two posters: it's time to start hitting McCain hard. Do the adds (the one the second poster suggests--with McCain stating his sheer ambition to become president plus the one about another POW saying McCain's fuse was too short--looks good).

I do feel sad about it. But it looks unavoidable. I just hope that Obama, despite being a nice guy, will know how to hit hard. He has to be stronger than the bullies to win.

The McCain ad was probably hatched from looking for something to

skeeve white voters out about Obama's blackness and "otherness" and then discovering that particular issue, rather than the reverse: starting from any awareness of a vote for education against sex predators. And that sort of thing really should be hung around McCain's neck if we're ever fortunate enough to have more media encounters like McCain's appearance on "The View".

Sex Education

Should begin in kindergarten. That is a vulnerable age and children should be taught how to recognize the difference between innocent affection and perverse molestation and abuse.

Molestation and sexual abuse is common toward children of that age and, tragically, it is most common from a family member. So, teaching children about setting boundaries and empowering them to speak up is very important; it is absolutely required.

Children already have an instinctive modesty and even in innocent encounters, such as a grandparent giving a bath to a grandchild, the feelings and boundaries of a child need to be respected. So, this education should also be extended to the adults.

This may be just a campaign distortion to win an election, or, worse, it may be an accurate reflection of position and opinion because the Republicans have shown us before that they are a bit ignorant, especially when it comes to anything to do with "sex".

Nevertheless, I am in agreement that every distortion and pathetic accusation from McCain/Palin campaign and the candidates themselves needs to be called and exposed. Everyone of us, including the MSM, needs to stop this abuse by setting our own boundaries!
