Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar

I support virtually none of Palin's or McCain's positions. I will not vote for them. But Palin is an attractive 45+ woman & there's no reason not to learn from her (or anyone) when she's right. I like her choice in glasses. I may wait to buy some like that until after the election so that I am not perceived as part of a pro-Palin movement, but the glasses, as glasses, seem like a good compromise between the current square look that's popular & the heavier effect of the black frames favored by Tina Fey.

Wrong Color

"I don't find Palin's style particularly special, so I can't say I understand the impulse to emulate it. But there's one thing I know for sure: I'd rather see women copying her look than believing what she says.

― Judy Berman"

It boggles the mind that anyone would desire to emulate Ailin' Palin. Her hairdo is bad enough, but, really, given her stupidity and the reputation of dumb blondes, shouldn't the wigs (and Sarah's own hair) be dyed blonde?

Sarah Palin -- Hot Transsexual Porn Star?

Yes, it's true that Sarah Palin resembles Rachel Welch to some extent -- but let's not forget that she *also* resembles my friend Hot Wendy Williams, the "hardest working tranny in the porn biz." She really is the face of America's diverse MILF population. :-)

Four Eyes

The idea of Palin wigs is just weird -- her hair style is unbelievably dated for a woman of her age. If she was 58 -- maybe. But on a 44 year old? A BUN? Obvious "ratting" to give height at the crown? It's too weird, almost as if she is copying something her mother wore when she was a teenager.

It looks a bit more normal when it's relaxed and down, but I notice she mostly has it up. I guess it's part and parcel of the whole "sexy librarian (60s era)" that she's going for.

Speaking of that: the glasses...that's one thing I know about as a 50-something. My guess is that Palin, at 44, has the beginnings of mild presbyopia and not nearsightedness. If you are too young to know what the heck presbyopia is, be happy....while you still have the ability to focus your eyes (nearisghted or far sighted or 20/20). Because you are going to lose it someday, not long after your 40th birthday and there is not a satisfactory treatment for it, not even bi-focals. NOTHING can replace the ease of being able to focus your eyes instantly near, far and in-between. I promise you, you will never enjoy reading again because even with good no-line bifocals, you will have to bend and twist your neck to get the magnifying portion of the lenses in place instead of simply focusing your eyeballs effortlessly.

What this does is makes it awkward or completely impossible (depending on how bad the presbyopia is) to do stuff like look at an audience and then look down and read something on a piece of paper (or a teleprompter). Even worse is when you have to do that old-ladyish thing of whipping your "granny-style reading glasses" out of your handbag and fuss with them. (Or god forbid, hanging on a beaded chain around your neck!)

So Governor Palin has given in, as most of us over 40 have, to wearing the prettiest, most fashionable glasses all the time, and with no-line bifocal lenses. No, BTW, non-reflective lenses are not only available in Canada -- we've had them here quite a while, for a price. I'm sure Sarah Palin has popped for the extra lens coating charge or we'd be seeing constant light reflection in her lenses, not a good look.

Wearing no-line bi-focals all the time is often preferable, also, to LOSING about 3 pairs of cheapo reading glasses every week, which is what I was doing before I caved in and did what Palin has presumably done.

You'd like to think that before placing someone in the limelight of a presidential election, they'd go to a good hairdresser and a stylist, and wouldn't go for the "Wasilla PTA look" but clearly that's working for Palin, and I imagine she will cling to this as long as she's in public life (no matter how long that is) -- I'll bet she's wearing this get-up at 80.
