It's a Maddow Maddow Maddow Maddow world!

Let me be the first (but...)

Let me be the first to congratulate Rachel Maddow. Good to hear of another liberal voice on the air.

But... I don't usually listen to her show, just because she's not on in either my morning or evening drive time. However when I have, I have been disappointed by her, because (it's been a while and the specifics escape me) she tends to do a little Limbaugh-esque blustering and putting words in people's mouths. Now they are people I don't much care for so it doesn't really bother me, but I just feel we on the right (i.e. correct) side of the middle ought to behave better than those right-wing brats.

Congrats to Rachel

I've enjoyed her cool, cheerful contrast to Olbermann's sometimes over-the-top bluster. Good for her.

Hurray

This is GREAT news!! I really like and admire Rachel.

This may be selfish - but I hope this not mean that she will be leaving Air America - unfortunately, it probably does.

Air America is getting filled up with too many silly light-weights like Stephanie Miller and Randy Rhodes.

YOU GO, RACHEL!!

This gay boy has a serious crush on this wonderfully smart, witty, telegenic lesbian (and I'm serious, she looks GREAT on TV). She will be a great addition to MSNBC's lineup of the few real liberal voices regularly on TV. Congratulations, Dr. Maddow!!

And by the way: Randi Rhodes and Stephanie Miller are NOT Air America personalities, and not lightweights. Stephanie in particular puts on a great show-- how does she put it? "Senator, fart joke, senator, fart joke...." You lay off Mama!!

Loooong Overdue

Kudos to Rachel. I am sure I'm not the only straight male in America who thinks that Rachel might have the best mind for politics since Jon Stewart (and that is NOT meant as a joke by any means). The MSM needs a shake-up and she can bring it on! You go girl! I look forward to watching.

About Time Department

I'm a grandmother and straight (not that there's anything wrong with that), and I am very happy that Rachel will solo. She brings her own voice -- and smarts -- to a part of the media that is dreadfully in need of both. A toast!

Tuesday, August 19, 2008 04:19 PM

That is GREAT news!

Rachel Maddow is the smartest host on Air America, and she's witty and cute to boot. (Okay, her frowning upon dirty martinis is a flaw, but one I can live with). She's going to class up MSNBC something grand.

Let this be an omen of changing times!

This is a very good day indeed

I am going to be on pins and needles everyday till the 8th, but I am not too worried as MSNBC has a good track record of coming through on their promises.

What is most amazing is how young Ms Maddow is, and how well respected she is despite how butch she looks. I have always thought Ms Maddow was gorgeous, but face it, she is not FAUX Noise blond and ditzy looking.

Ms Maddow got there on her smarts, personality, and toughness in debates, and it is great to see a woman with those traits get major national recognition.

A new era will emerge on September 8, an era in which smart women with strong personalities and the ability to intellectually run circles around the opposition in debates, will finally get the spot light and voice in the media they deserve.

@Richgreer

Um.... Have you actually listened to AAR lately? Methinks you are listening to an affiliate w/o the full lineup.

Anyhow, I'm down with a Maddow show. Her radio show has a nice variety and is pretty funny. When she has appeared on the talking head shows, she's done well.

In my dreams they would have a Rachel/Sammy 2 hour block.

Why can't it be someone with talent?

I've never "gotten" Maddow. She annoys the heck out of me. I had to stop listening to Air America morning because she kept irritating me with trivial complaints and a complete lack of depth. Of course, that makes her perfect for a prime time spot on MSNBC.

Tuesday, August 19, 2008 05:18 PM

Great; Except why do we have to lose Abrams?

Couldn't they dump Matthews instead? At least Abrams tries to hold types like Rove to account for their actions. And in the Segilman investigation he's been out front. Matthews?? Just lots of volume....

Anyway Rachel is teh awesome, so that is great!

Congrats to Rachel Maddow!

This is wonderful news. A well-deserved and welcome addition to the nightly political discourse. Anyone who can crawl under the skin of Pat Buchanan enough for him to tell her to "shut up!" will be a joy to hear and watch.

Tuesday, August 19, 2008 05:59 PM

Congrats to Rachel Maddow

She's sharp and funny and always has a good comeback. A great addition for MSNBC.

Tuesday, August 19, 2008 06:07 PM

Too bad I just lost MSNBC

Comcast just moved MSNBC to the digital cable package...I wish they had moved Fox News instead.

Tuesday, August 19, 2008 06:10 PM

Yuck

No principled person should ever forgive Maddow's crude,

cruel attacks on Hillary Clinton. Her sleazo remarks about

how Clinton wanted Obama assasinated are worthy of Ann

Coulter.

That's what She's being paid back for, by the way,

in addition to her groveling (see the Archives of

"The Daily Howler") to Chris Matthews in the cluch.

Rachel Rocks!

Way to go, Maddow world! This is wonderful news for us all. Rachel was in Seattle last weekend for our AM 1090 Town Hall We The People forum along with some of the other best and brightest broadcasters in progressive radio. I was there along with around 1500 other fellow travelers. Along with being almost unbearably adorable Rachel was graceful and gracious while succinctly summing up our collective progressive positions and need for activism.

Rachel knows who she is and doesn't need our accolades. We need to listen to her clear, informed voice which is an enormous gift to us all.

My my my, we've come a long way and this is an occasion for celebration of truth, justice and the American Way.

Tuesday, August 19, 2008 06:58 PM

Hooray!

Maddow not just smart and progressive, she's charismatic. If she ever tires of newscasting, she'd make a great politician. I'd vote for her for president in a heartbeat!

Tuesday, August 19, 2008 07:07 PM

I am gay for Rachel Maddows

..and I am a straight male. Or am I?

Congrats Rachel, cause I know you are reading this.

Love you!

Tuesday, August 19, 2008 09:14 PM

Don't need to have a 'girl crush' on her.

I've got a very straightforward, garden-variety, real crush on Rachel Maddow.

Tuesday, August 19, 2008 10:36 PM

YIPPEE!!!

I am so glad this is happening! Rachel is the smartest person on the pannel each time she shows up as a talking head. And so cool under pressure. I love it that she's got her facts and can bring them to bear each and every time she's pressed or hears stupidity. LOVE IT!

For those who were worried, she'll still be on Air America in her current 6pm time slot. Winners all around!
