Anything to save a life

While I feel that bombing abortion clinics to be terrible, anything else - but not including violence - should be done to stop abortions. Sex has become a 'recreational activity' and abortion is done without giving it any thought. Like someone knocked over a drink and has to wipe it up. I had an abortion many years ago and I regret it to this day! There are thousands of women like myself with these feelings. The only women who should be allowed to have an abortion are those for whom the pregancy is life-threatening.

Ah, regrets...

I'm sorry this is painful for you, but one person regretting something (particularly when millions of others do not) is no way to determine the rules for EVERYBODY.

More regrets

I don't see how you can generalize like that.

But if you're still suffering from regrets over making use of a medical procedure you're trying to deny to other women, may I suggest -- and I mean this in all seriousness -- therapy?

Unless, of course, you find sentimental and political attitudinizing more constructive than restoring yourself to a sound foundation of self-esteem.

@TeachESL

The only women who should be allowed to have an abortion are those for whom the pregancy is life-threatening.

I don't entirely disagree with you; however, we have legislative forces at work that have very different definitions of "life-threatening pregnancy" than you, or perhaps the average doctor, might have. We also have folks who make no distinction in "life-threatening" and "non-life threatening" when they intimidate women trying to get abortions or the people trying to provide them. We also have the same folks who do all they can to discourage methods of preventing unwanted pregnancies (which would reduce the number of abortions.)

I'm sorry for what happened to you, but lately I can't really agree that getting an abortion has become "too easy." In many parts of the country it's incredibly difficult. I'm also afraid that if this trend keeps up, it won't be available even in cases where pregnancy is "life-threatening."

Whatt happened to bubble laws?

These kinds of protesters just go to show how fanatical these anti abortion people are.

In the 90s when the anti choice terrorist, and they are terrorists, were conducting violent protests, harassing and pushing patients, handing out acid laden roses, outside PP clinics several cities passed bubble laws. These laws require protesters to stay 15-30 feet away from the clinics and patients.

I once saved a teen with a young child from a nasty anti abortion protester at PP. I had come out of the door to PP after meeting and the door locked behind me. I saw this guy protesting but paid no attention as the clinic was closed. When I got to my car I saw he had a young teen with a 2 year old child up against the locked door yelling at her. The 2-year old was crying, the girl was pounding on the locked door. I ran over and got between her and the guy until they opened the door. She was at PP for evening parenting classes.

This PP clinic soon after started an "adopt a protester" fund raising campaign. The donor could make a pledge, adopt a particular protesters, and donate every time the protester they adopted showed up to protest outside the clinic. The clinic made enough money to redesign the entrance, so patients and teens going to the education center could enter a parking lot and the clinic where protester could get near them.

personal politics

This sounds very much like the discussion in the movie "Clerks" where the two main characters are discussing the fate of any contractors who were killed when the second Death Star was destroyed at the end of "Return of the Jedi" when a customer who happens to be a roofing contractor notes that a smart contractor considers personal politics when choosing to take a job. His example was a job for a mob figure who he turned down, and later the contractor who did take the job was killed by a hit.

The parallels are eerie.

Grungi

The anti choice organization are keeping alive the LIE that women can get abortions any time during pregnancy for any reason. NOT TRUE!

Under Roe v. Wade the rights of a woman and the rights of a fetus are equally balanced under a trimester system. The first Trimester (12 weeks) a woman's right supercede to the fetus and a woman can have an abortion for any reason. The Second Trimester, the rights are equal, and states can regulate abortion as long as it does not put an undue burden on the woman. In the third trimester (after viability), the rights of the fetus supercde the woman. Before the last Supreme court ruling a woman could only get an abortion for death or severe health related reasons. The health reason have now been taken away putting womans reproductive health in danger, and disregarding the advice of medical professionals. Instead using religious beliefs.

Taking away this medical reason was outrageous because the incidence of late term abortions is VERY rare. In fact the majority of abortions are performed in the first 8 weeks of pregnancy. IN fact it is Parental Consent laws and waiting period laws that have pushed abortions that would have been performed in under 8 week into 12-13 weeks.

It's each woman's decision, that No one else should be making.

The big problem is those same people who want to ban abortion do not want to help prevent unwanted pregnancy. They also work against access to contraception and sex education. PP does a lot more than perform abortions.

TeachESL

What give you the right to decide when and if women should be able to get an abortion? So you regret yours. that does not mean everyone does and you have no right to impose your guilt others.

Banning abortion will not stop abortion. It never has.

PP does more to prevent pregnancy than any anti abortion group.

Responsibility

Anybody who thinks having an abortion is just like wiping out dirt from a skirt really needs some help. It isn't; it's a lot more than that, an experience not to be taken lightly. But to me the bottom line is simple: not everybody agrees that abortion is a crime. In fact, lots and lots of otherwise quite normal and rational people think that abortion is up to the woman, not to law. So if those normal and rational people who are against abortion try to force those normal and rational people who aren't to conform to their beliefs by outlawing abortion, I think something wrong is going on. I fear the hidden assumptions (on both sides) that are keeping the abortion debate at a purely emotional level.
