Letters to the Editor

@ melthough
it's true. if there's anything this thread proves is that most people don't have basic reading comprehension skills, vis-a-vis the WaPo article, the post by Hepola, and each other's letters.

Now we are supposed
to be able to read women's minds.
Ok, great, and I ask you, if it cannot be the result of centuries of misogyny and discrimination, then what is it the result of?
how the fuck does anyone know? Maybe because women couldn't be bothered?
Kind of like how people beg young women to study engineering and computer sci, but they could not be bothered.
-
@ brightstar
now we're getting somewhere!
EVERY problem women have EVER had is due to misogyny
it could never be due to some inadequacy in the women themselves.
I'd like to point out that i didn't say "every problem," and I made an effort to list some of the specific ones I meant, but no matter.
Some inadequacy in the women themselves? Could you elaborate on this? An inherent, genetic, biological inadequacy? A socialized inadequacy? What kind?

So
@ brightstar65
Geez, stop drinking at your desk, friend. Seriously.
So, you are evading my questions then.
OK, I agree then that I am right and you are wrong, since you seem incapable of answerng my questions.
-
Hill's
inadequacies have been pointed out over and over and over.
But it is EASIER for women to bitch and moan that bad old men made some slur against her instead.
-
Oh and here are some statistics on gender socialization
Enjoy!

@ brightstar
i'm not talking about just Hill, and you know it. Don't dodge. I'm talking about women as a group.
Are you suggesting women are lazier than men, for some reason? Less mathematically/scientifically-inclined? Is this socialized or inherent? These are some of the most important questions in discussing sexism and misogyny. What are your opinions?
If it's socialized, then it can be fixed by changing socialization. If it's inherent, then it can't be changed, so there's nothing we can do.

walter neither has nor wants reading comprehension skills.
Obviously untrue. Anybody can review my posts for confirmation.
You're just annoyed and indulging in smears because I was to easily able to show your argument to be invalid.
Next.

Now you're obviously being perverse, in addition to engaging in a circular, and therefore false, argument.
You also evaded my question.

Show me how society inculcates docility into women.
That would be extremely difficult to do.
It would be far easier to provide counterexamples. There are dozens of counterexamples on Broadsheet alone. Not many examples, though.

@ walter_map
I'm asking you a very simple question: why do women only make up 16% of federal elected representatives? If your answer is, because they don't run for office, the question then is, why do women not run for office as much as men do?
Also, care to apologize for misrepresenting what I wrote on another thread?

Certifiable
I just buzzed through the last 10 pages or so of posts and it's like reading a tennis match with lunatics. Most of you are resorting to incredibly lame verbal jousts that depend on an either willful or incidental misinterpretation of each other's posts. Boring!
Some of you in the fray I've heard well thought out analysis from, but this isn't your best work. Might I suggest stepping away from the computer and taking a nice walk? Perhaps interacting with some more balanced individuals, having a cup of tea or some ice cream?
If you aren't a troll and you think you are being clever, allow me to say that you may very well be the only one who thinks so.

My best take

If it's socialized, then it can be fixed by changing socialization. If it's inherent, then it can't be changed, so there's nothing we can do.
From all the evidence I can gather THAT I TRUST, my best guess is that women are not less lazy then men, in the aggregate, but that they tend to do things based on social expectation and their innate sense of entitlement. Social entitlement: many women equate labor with MEN, specifically, their Mr. Right sort of men. So they get their Mrs degree in college or they set on a career to land a guy. This is changing as women decide they really DO want to accomplish something and no longer be dependent fiscally on men.
Women tend to have a stronger desire to integrate their lives and their work, so they prefer to choose more emotionally rewarding jobs and careers, though these might not pay as well.
Younger women, it has been shown, seem to stay clear of engineering and hard computer programming because of the perceived social stigma or sense that it is guy's work.
It is all a complex calculus, this selection of one's career path-- for both men and women, though less for men, since men are more driven by money in order to land a better partner.

You think I can read women's minds, do you? Maybe they don't run for the same reasons you don't run. So answer the question: why don't you?
Also, care to apologize for misrepresenting what I wrote on another thread?
Are you kidding? You belong in prison.

Women more assertive than the men on average
Show me how society inculcates docility into women.
That would be extremely difficult to do.

In my experience on this planet, on average, I find the women to be more assertive and aggressive than the men, for whatever reason.
Women THINK they are less assertive, but that is because they associate assertiveness with the male gender, even if in life most men are not that assertive.
