Right, because (as a wonderful history teacher of mine used to say) everything you read on Wikipedia is true...
Of course this sort of thing affects the discourse...but only because publications like the Evening Standard (and, now, Salon) publish it. You can't say it's important to condemn it because it affects the national discourse, since it's the act of condemnation (with giant, eye-catching headlines, of course) that got it into the discourse in the first place.
If it's really important to repeat everything offensive that's said by any fringe group in the world, why don't we get daily updates sbout the leaders of the American Nazi Party, World Church of the Creator, the National Alliance, and the Aryan Nation? I can pretty much guarantee you that one of their leaders said something just as offensive recently.
And, of course, if Broadsheet really does want to counter this element of the national discourse, she should have made it perfectly clear who the BNP are, what they stand for, and how marginal they are. Making these seem like mainstream pronouncements when they're not is doing the BNP's PR for them; the better story would be "these are views that are held only by crazy extremists who also want to make England an all-white nation by law." Then maybe people wouldn't be in such a hurry to say "hey, maybe they have a point" in their replies.
was not 29 in 1975.
Anybody remember "This is what 40 looks like"?
I was 18 in 1975.
I sure do remember.
because it seemed to be the most succinct and provable description of her scope of work with the CIA. I could have led you to articles in the Washington Post, LA Times, etc, etc,ad nauseam.
Google them yourself if it threatens you so much that one of your divine feminist beings is corrupt and evil.
I guess this dude hadn't been following the long discussion here on Salon.com about date rape, campus rape and just plain rape, in general. Too bad. It might have done him some good.
I'm getting tired of the Feminazi moniker and subsequent patriarchal chest thumping diatribes by people (usually men) telling me what I should think, how I should feel, or how I should react to certain situations, or what I should like or dislike.
I have a goddamn right to feel a certain way about actions done against my person. I AM a person. I guess Mr. whatshisface doesn't get it. Well, I don't get him either. Is he saying that male ownership trumps all? Is he saying that I should be available to spread my legs to any jerk, known or unkown, in my presence, at any time of the day, whenever THEY feel like it--and that I shouldn't complain? Is he saying that he agrees with Sharia Law? Is he saying that drugged-up rapes are a figment of "Feminazis" imaginations? Oh yes, it's all going be a piece of cake. Not for him, though. Take it from a Feminazi.
No wonder this society is falling apart with dunderheads like BOTH you and your teacher being so called authorities.
Right, because (as a wonderful history teacher of mine used to say) everything you read on Wikipedia is true...
1. Wonderful because why? Because they support your prejudices? Most histroy teachers I knew were suckers for the fake story, the fake history, the official line from the propaganda artists. Few histroy teachers had the gumption to dig beneath the official pretense and reveal the REAL history. I bet you think this teacher is the cata pyjamas because he or she speaks oh so eloquently (a sure sign of a left wing sucker is when you fall for someone's patter because of the their delivery).
2. Everything is true or not true? Since when does life deal in absolutes? The last study I read actually pegged Wikipedia as comparble if not even MORE accurate then the World Book Encyclopedia.
3. Why wholesale reject an anti-authoritarian flat resource like Wikipedia? Are you a closet commu-fascist like so many of your leftie friends? Does it not mean anything coming from someone's lips unless there is a 'PhD' adhered to the end of their name?
What's the motivation?
we are very tired of it too. Obviously though straight men, unlike many/most? "straight" women, are unwilling to take the next step which is disengagement. I can understand why men seem like whiners; "why don't you just go away if you have so many problems with us".
show that you are a journalist and not a logician, detective or judge.
