British doctors are the biggest whores when it comes to this kind of stuff
Someone is pimping the hell out of an inconclusive study about severe mental illness problems caused by some item on the liberal agenda?
Must be a British doctor!!!
It's the exactly same with pot. They keep trying to pimp their inconclusive studies about the link between marijuana and mental illness too.
They seem to have a lot of scientific prostitutes over there. They get behind political agendas and solid science goes out the window.
The problem is, most people don't ever get to read the stories about the science that debunks these stupid stories, because that real science is never as sexy or sensational as the original BS that was flung.
The marijuana and mental illness story has been debunked by American scientists over and over again but that doesn't stop the people who are determined to push it.
I say -- good luck.
With British doctors, you're going to need it.

Under the influence
Somebody mentioned that one of their clinic's protesters always looked like he was under the influence of a drug. I think I can name the drug: religion. It stops a thinking mind.
Somebody else referred to this sort of thing happening "since the time of Eve." I hope that was just symbolic. You don't really believe in that, do you?
Do the religious types not believe that the "souls" of the aborted go to a perfect, eternal, "Heaven?"

One would assume the most together and successful women
are less likely to have unintended pregnancies. As Brightstart pointed out, there are lots of forms of birth control. Yes, accidents happen, but many forms of birth control are extremely effective when used conscientiously.
My point is not to say an unplanned pregnancy is a sign of carelessness, but that the careless will have more unplanned pregnancies.
People in control of their lives have fewer mental health problems than those who let life control them. Plus, pre-existing, undiagnosed mental health problems are probably correlated with poor BC use.

@Malusinka
And you must be Brightstar's long lost cousin or something.
In response to what you said about mental illness, something you obviously know little about: "People in control of their lives have fewer mental health problems than those who let life control them."
Mental illness is not the fault of any person, Malusinka. By that logic you are saying that a person with PTSD, say from a rape, or from witnessing 9/11 or being in a war or some other horrible disaster, was at fault for their own trauma. You are saying the illnesses such as bipolar and schizophrenia, illnesses that have genetic links and have been proven to run in families are not the product of genes and environment, but the product of one's own carelessness. Do you realize how you sound? Ignorant and mean, that's how. As someone who suffers from mental illness I can assure you that I have been as proactive and as careful in my treatment as possible, there's nothing I can do other than deal with the fact that I have an illness and get the best treatment I can find. My illness has nothing to do with carelessness or anything else of my own doing. You would not say it's a person's own fault if they had some other disease, say MS or Alzheimers, so why would you single out mental health patients. Seriously, go trolling somewhere else, your hurtful and judgmental comments are not wanted here, you ignorant troll.

No regrets
Wow, this is a hard one, being that the anonymous option has been removed at Salon.
That said, I'm gonna say it anyway, in response to this poster (captcrisis) who said:
""I killed my baby"
And to those women who say "I, a woman, did not have that thought" -- I say -- you're lying."
Well captcrisis, I've had 5 abortions. The last one in 1989. I never, ever thought "I killed my baby." Each time, I felt an overwhelming sense of relief. And thanked the State that I had the option to terminate each unwanted pregnancy. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
I have two wonderful children, 27 and 23. I feel I was able to give them the love and attention they deserved because I didn't have 5 other kids to care for.
For those of you who think that unplanned pregnancies are a result of carelessness, I say, "let birth control be free and available to all and we'll see the rate of abortion plummet."
-
Trust me
"I don't think -any- responsible person thinks abortion is a -good- thing"
If your pregnancy is the result of rape, abortion is a *very* good thing.

Marijuana and mental illness
The marijuana and mental illness story has been debunked by American scientists over and over again but that doesn't stop the people who are determined to push it.
I spent many years working in mental health and I can tell you unequivocally that use of marijuana is a major factor in relapse of mentally ill and vulnerable individuals and as such is a hugely costly problem for societies.
I have actually see people who were functioning perfectly normally at breakfast time, then by lunch time they are gibbering idiots because they have smoked marijuana. If you are an off-duty lawyer, then it makes little difference, but if you are a habitual sex offender or violent offender, behavior may become extremely unpredictable during the euphoria and may be a danger to others.
I don't care what a million American psychiatrists say.
While the occasional toke is unlikely to cause mental illness in otherwise mentally healthy individuals, there is little doubt that habitual use is often damaging.
I would be interested to see links to peer-reviewed research that "debunks" links between marijuana and mental illness.

While we're on the subject of slavery ...
Forcing women to bear unwanted children is a form of slavery. Basically, it reduces women to walking, talking wombs whose contents are controlled by the state.

@ NorthernThought
"D&C" should not have been "DNC" as in "did not carry."
D&C stands for Dilation and Curettage:
"The dilation and curettage procedure is called a D&C. The D stands for dilation, which means enlarging. Curettage (the C) means scraping. Together, this procedure involves expanding or enlarging the entrance of a woman’s uterus so that a thin, sharp instrument can scrape or suction away the lining of the uterus and take tissue samples." ...Or remove a miscarried fetus.
Or were you making an odd joke?
