  • I Call Shenanigans

ONLY 52% of men say they are required to live by women's rules? That's proof of a flawed survey.

  • "Rules"

Feeling forced to live by someone else's rules is a typical reaction of someone who believes they are entitled to having the upper hand, and finds themselves having to share power fairly in order to get by. Certainly there are henpecked men, but there are a lot more who believe they are being subjected to female "rule" every time they are asked to wash their own dishes or to pick up their socks. Interestingly, it's usually at home that this comes out: most of the men I know who resent being asked to help with housework wouldn't dream of asking their female peers in the workplace to make them a cup of coffee. We've made some progress, but we've got a long way to go.

  • Classifieds

Do some research of your own and jump on match.com or some other dating site. Look at the what women are asking for...

How many of them end up asking for a "REAL MAN?" More than a small percentage... It would seem that the British survey isn't all that far off. But that's just anecdotal evidence, however, that never stopped this site from amking assertions before

  • Waxed? I don't think so

    viva le back hair!

  • Telegraph Trolls

The Telegraph's trolls, male and female, are better than Salon's. Very vivid. East German judge gives them a 7.

  • Let's see now...

"More than half of the women believe society is turning them into "hairy and obese lesbians."

Fifty-two percent say they are forced to live by men's rules.

Four out of 10 women are scared of snakes, while a third are scared of "bossy hairy men."

Many women feel they have to play too many roles."

Boy, whoever wrote that must be an idiot...

For my own part I'm afraid of bears.

  • ***Yawn***...being a metrosexual is so 2003

The metrosexual fad jumped the shark when South Park brilliantly satired it years ago, in a classic episode culminating with - you guessed it - a Metrosexual Rights Parade.

[The Queer Eye for the Straight Guy gang were also revealed to be evil Crab People. If u don't watch SP, don't bother asking...=]

Sure, metrosexuals abound in High School Musical (Zac Efron) and on American Idol - but in the real world, straight guys have once again discovered that it's okay to, you know, look straight. Wear a t-shirt and jeans. Spend less than 5 mins on their hair. Scratch their nuts. And so on.

  • Isn't that what "Talk Like a Pirate Day" is for?

It doesn't surprise me that my fellow men are getting a wee bit nostalgic for the era of manly manliness. After all, isn't it only really in the last 50 years or so (a generation or two) that so many men spend their days sitting on their butts under flourescent lights, getting softer in body, if not also in mind?

I think what this is really about is men wanting to take back more of what it is to be fully human, that is, our physical selves. We're meant to run and jump and make tools with our hands and throw and catch things. We're meant to move, in other words. And no, having your avatar run around in Medieval World doesn't cut it.

Exercise and sports, that's the ticket, and for men who want to release their inner dragon slayers, martial arts is great. For me, nothing satisfies quite like hitting a heavy bag. It was more fun when I was hitting someone who hit me back, but as the saying goes, I've gotten too old for that sh*t.

I don't know if you women yearn for the days of gathering nuts and berries, or whatever it is that a womanly woman does, but I would not be surprised if you're suffering from a similar angst.

  • It seems stereotypes never die...

As a guy who washes his own dishes, does his own laundry, and cleans the house every Thursday night before his gaming group comes over, I was absolutely thrilled to see "D&D", "geeks", and "basement brethren" in one sentence in a Broadsheet post! Isn't it nice that everyone, no matter how maligned themselves, has someone else that they can just lump into a group and make disparate comments about? I certainly think so. Honestly, doesn't such behavior seem a bit hypocritical to you?

  • Understandable

Men grow up being told what to do by their mothers and teachers, who are mostly female. Then we move out an discover personal freedom. Then we move in with a woman and we have lost complete control again.

This is not a matter of compromise, and most women fool themselves into thinking that is a compromise. Men know the old adage is true, "If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy." So we put our furniture in storage and live on theirs. "You're not really going to keep those trophies, are you?" While we look around and see the photoes of them and their friends and family everywhere... Somehow it's always our stuff that ends up in the trash or in storage. If we are lucky we get one area of the house to call our own. It's always been that way, dad just knew better than to fight about it. It's not our place, we just live there.

  • For Sure They are Joust Kidding...

    Dear Ms Tracey,

Where do these spiderphobey mens come from who think they can survive one single day in medieval masculine world with black plague, hard labour and poor oral hygiene? For sure swordplay suffer. Maybe because still have Queen with Prince Philip two step behind think womens rule everywhere in world, but last time look me, only female-dominate society on earth is bonobo chimpanzee.

Bonobo is very peaceful animal. Why bonobo chimpanzee peaceful? Because make happy happy all time. Use sex bonobo for greet, use sex for get food and use sex for prevent conflict like have make-up sex before fight.

Seem for me female dominate society is something everyone should pray for.

  • But...

    ...those are British men.

Nobody is making them do anything; if they are becoming "waxed and coiffed metrosexuals", its because they choose to go along with it, social pressure notwithstanding. They can be just as cultured - or not - as they choose.

    Like everyone else.
