  • Ending gender disparities in wartime deaths

Men have borne a disproportionate share of the burden of combat deaths throughout history. I think we should take ALL of our daughters to war, and let our sons stay at home, until the numbers even out. It might take a while, given the numbers involved. Then again, if the spoiled princesses of Broadsheet are representative of modern women, they may not last very long, and this should shorten the period considerably.

  • HA HA HA HA

Loved it. Especially the one uncomfortable girl standing there twisting her hair.

That, and "Its a way for your daughter to see you once a year..."

  • Queen Victoria is rolling in her grave

Candidate Clinton is just rolling her eyes, a little uncomfortably.

  • @welcomerain

Women have been fighting to be represented in all aspects of the military for generations now. It's men who have not wanted them to serve. True, many women don't choose to serve now that most military jobs are open to them, but the military only represents a small percentage of our population so both men and women are choosing not to serve. I also believe that both boys and girls should have to register for selective service. BTW I am a woman.

  • also @ welcomerain

You hear that ladies - get out there and start dying! Be quick about it too, you're behind!

I'm curious, what credit do some men deserve for the sacrifices of other men? Unless welcomerain is blogging from the afterlife, he hasn't personally given his life in combat.

It must be a horrible burden for you to share a gender with those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Something tells me it pales in comparison to the burden on the friends and families they left behind.

  • Well you could look to Israel

Salon's favorite racist mini satan state. Women typically serve 24 months, men 36. Women are included in all but the most specialized and demanding combat roles, like Sayeret (Special Forces). And seeing how they've been at war for 60 years you could say they've collected credible data.

  • Aw, look at the cute little feminacentric sexists

Women have been fighting for inclusion in the armed forces? Really? All women and no men at all? Which women are these, anyway? How hard are they fighting, really? Have they been fighting for inclusion in the draft and combat, or just the nice voluntary part and the office jobs? If they've been fighting so hard, how have they failed? Are women just bad at fighting?

Your cowshit sexist claims fail. You lose at the internets. Go home.

  • Civilian Deaths Include Women

welcomerain, 90% of the deaths in Iraq have been civilian--women, children included. In terms of the historical death rate of civilian's in war zones, WWII saw approximately 60-70% of all deaths AS CIVILIANS according to an interview with Howard Zinn, the noted Historian.

So, this whole notion that men suffer more in war because they are the main combatants historically--they weren't the only ones suffering during war (look up, the Rape of Berlin or the Rape of Nanking) or the only ones dying--in fact, men in combat weren't even the majority of deaths in modern warfare.

So, stop taking credit for your noble gender and start getting educated about how war effects us all.
