Happy stained blue dress day, everyone!

A decade-old scandal spun into a news story? Give me a break.

The letters thread is now closed.

this reminds me that not ALL of the extra special vitriol heaped on Hilliary Clinton is because she is a woman

although a lot of it is. A LOT of it is because she is a Clinton. and the reason HE got treated extra special is because he was BOTH white trash AND a democrat. Reagan was white trash and a Republican and Kennedy and Roosevelt were rich. Does ANYONE believe that if either of the Bushes, or Reagan had gotten a blow job from an intern that anything which in an way resembled what happened to the Clintons would have happenned to them. If they claim to believe that they would have they are either ignorant, crazy or lying

Vince Foster

I know this may be hard to believe, but I don't believe the media or anyone in particular ever claimed Hillary was the actual perp who killed Vince Foster. Poliicians tend to have other to do their "wetwork" for them.

So, no... she's not off the hook for Vince Foster...

The Clinton's History

Only adds to the ugly aura of their dysfunctional mystery.

for all we know

For all we know, Hilary could have been in the room at the time, practicing her drawing skills on a sketchpad. Much as we like to think we know our public figures, we really have no idea what they do in their private lives. Frankly, it is probably for the best.

To agree with Kate, not only is this not news, but it is also not suprising. The White House is a big place, and the president and first lady (even the current ones) are busy people, usually surrounded by a swarm of assistants. It wouldn't suprise me if it was the norm that they go full days without seeing each other.

Hmm

this reminds me that not ALL of the extra special vitriol heaped on Hilliary Clinton is because she is a woman

Wow. That's pretty much the opposite of the conclusion I came to, but okay.

Not everything is an attack on feminism.

Hmm

Wow. That's pretty much the opposite of the conclusion I came to, but okay.

-- Kate Harding

What? If she wasn't a Clinton she wouldn't be so hated. There is a terrible ammount of animosity from Republicans towards her because of who she is as an individual not related to her gender.

@Kate

"Wow. That's pretty much the opposite of the conclusion I came to, but okay."

Actually Kate, there are some pretty well documented reasons that have nothing to do with her gender... They just get ignored by everyone... Check my previous posts. For the occasional name call, no one has ever challenged the veracity of my reasons.

It's because they hate Bill, not women

Just to add another voice to the chorus--

Calling Vince Foster's death a "major event" of Bill's presidency--compared to what, NAFTA? DOMA? Welfare reform? Bombing in Kosovo? come ON--is miso-Clinton-ist, not misogynist.

Hillary is trading on her experience during Bill's administration, but it's a time about which people have very strong, very differing feelings. Come on, Bill got IMPEACHED. Obviously a lot of people didn't like him. And since she wants to claim the good parts of that administration, she gets the bad parts too.

There may be other examples of misogyny, but this is about Bill.

Despicable

I thought Glenn Greenwald totally nailed this one.

Myself, I read the story when it came out, and I was appalled. First of all, it was a story about nothing, there was no news of any kind in it. But it served simply as a vehicle to bring up salacious details once again, and frankly, to shame and humiliate Hillary. Again. The Freedom of Information request was put in with all the high flown rhetoric you would expect, and what is the very first thing the press does with the information? Dig for secret meetings, try and find lies, develop a picture of day to day life in the White House? No, it's that Hillary was in the building when Bill got the blow-job. How commander in chief of her.

Yes, it was sexism, pure and simple.

It was utterly despicable.

consider your employer's own behavior

You work for an outfit that regularly front-pages tawdry stuff, like the current "Who the hell are Heidi and Spencer?". It's a clever tactic; by criticizing this kind of trash you get to engage in it.

Yeah, I guess if Scaife and the WSJ editorial board smear you, there might be a possibility that it could true. Kinda like Bush's WMD's in Iraq, the Creation Museum, Piltdown Man...

It was calculated once that

More words had been written about the Lewinsky scandal than had been written worldwide in total, by everyone ever, up through the year 1900.

Thank you Salon for adding to that useless drivel.

what will the headlines be

after HRC releases her tax files?

I see "Chelsea Clinton Dependent Through College!" or "Clinton Speaking Fees Scandalously High!" and, inevitably, "Clinton Vacation Home: Sexy Love Nest for Mistresses??!!" splashing the front pages nationwide, followed by days upon days of media speculation on how this might impact HRC's campaign.

AND YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM!

And here you are just happy to go along and do a story of your own about how appalled you are at the story. Did you know that if you and few others had not done a story condemning the story I would not have know about it?
