Silda is attractive
Elliot was lucky to have her. The little DuPre does not even know who Aretha Franklin is, but Elliot was lucky to have her, too.
Elliot is a silly old fool, no different from many old human fools. Question: Why did Elliot Spitzer not just have an affair, and fall in love, rather than paying a prostitute?
He would be much better off now. He might even be able to salvage his political career.

such power
So according to Dr Laura, and brightstar:
Silda, and Silda alone, made Eliot screw around with a prostitute. Whether Eliot wanted to or not, Silda demanded he do this. Again and again and again. Over Eliot's protests: "But that would be hypocritical!" "But I could lose my job!", Silda insisted he seek out high-class whores for extra-marital frolics.
And Silda did all this, without speaking a word on the subject.
Wow. That's some girl power! I never knew women could direct a man's penis into another woman's vagina via mental remote control! How do men ever get anything done, the poor dears, jerked around as they are by these powerful, powerful, women? Ladies, if only we channeled this awesome power for good, instead of ruining men's lives, we could Save The Universe!

Dr. Laura Can Kiss My Dimpled Ass
Everytime I hear "Dr." Laura pontificating about something or other in that annoying, point fingers, Church Lady way, I think, hey Laura, I've seen your snatch all over the Internet.
-
Women May Be Neanderthals Too
If a man does not treat his wife as the center of his universe, does that circumstance sanction her rental of a boy toy?
Dr. Laura has as much credibility as Ralph Nader. The both of them might do well to spend a week with Rush Limbaugh to sort out the problems of the world.
The comments affirm there remains a Neanderthal mentality that a percentage of both genders have yet to escape from.

It's a very old shtick but it works...
It's the one where somebody says and does the most outrageous things they can think of in order to get attention. And nobody ever calls them on it.
Andy Kauffman did it, but he was funny.
Limbaugh does it, Schlessinger does it, Coulter does it, but people take them seriously. Why?
What would you expect the phony not-a-doctor-but-calls-herself-one Laura Schlessinger to say? That Spitzer made a dumb mistake? That he's a hypocrite? Such would get lost in the noise; everyone is saying that. Besides, if you mention hypocrisy, folks might start thinking about how Limbaugh/Schlessinger/Coulter have actually lived *their* lives.
No, the shtick is to blame the wife with absolutely NO evidence (and no way of countering the blame). That gets attention, and a fee. Ya think Schlessinger went on the air for free?
And watch for this: "Kristen" will have a pictorial spread in some magazine or other in the near future, and will be paid seven figures for it.

Who knows?
We know nothing about Spitzer, his wife, or their motives.
We know little, other than that Spitzer hired a callgirl.
I assume he hired her because he got something from her that he didn't get from his wife. We don't know if he couldn't get it from his wife. We don't know if he didn't ask for it, or if she wouldn't give it to him even if he asked for it, or if he couldn't bring himself to ask her. We don't know if she knew what was going on or not. (I doubt she knew, considering the price he paid, both in dollars and career.)
The one thing we do know about the whole affair is that it's none of our business.

some things never change
Hasn't it always been like this? Camille Paglia comes to mind. Thanks for this oh-too-true piece.

Spitzer's Wife.
Obviously, the main thing she didn't provide to her husband was a 22 year old body.
Shame on her for not dying young!

Dr. Laura to Silda: It's All Your fault!
It s surprising that Dr. Laura was able to spend time on talk shows and in interviews when it appears she was camped out under the Spitzers' bed!

@Cparis - you are right
Dr. Laura is, as most people hopefully know, NOT a medical doctor of any kind. Her title is a fake. She did indeed have an affair with a married man (with young children) and break up his long term marriage, and then lived with him before she married him -- all things she hotly condemns in other people as trampy and sinful. Apparently this behavior is only trampy and sinful when YOU do it, not when "Dr." Laura does it.
It is also true she was estranged for many years from her own mother, who was left alone to die in a cheap apartment (when her daughter was a multi-millionaire) and the body not found for many days. This from a "self-help doctor" who talks about religion, morals, and how important 'family" is.
Dr. Laura is a contempible hypocrite, who exploits the conservative beliefs of some of her listeners, but in no way follows a conservative or moral lifestyle herself. It does say something very interesting, though sad, about our culture and the entire conservative section of the country, that there is such a big response to people like Dr. Laura (and Rush and Ann Coulter and their ilk) because they scream and rail about issues that really trigger people's rage. Whether or not the rage and anger is justified by the public or conservatives is debatable, but what is NOT debatable is that Dr. Laura is a hypocitical phony and Limbaugh is a drug addict and Ann Coulter some kind of whacked-out robot.
Though I do have to say the theory, repeated more than a few times here on Salon the last week, that Silda Spitzer is maybe a real kinky housewife who was totally into porn and hookers, and was all down with her husband's using prostitutes...well, that's an absurd fantasy as well. I saw the woman's face as her husband was on TV -- it's just not true. Yes, there might be some kinky housewives out there, but it is very unlikely that Silda Spitzer was thrilled and delighted to be publicly humiliated or see her husband's political career in ruins.
Some of you "pro-prostitution" posters or those saying "how do we really know she even cares" types need to go online, and google the wiretaps between "Kristen" and her madam. Spitzer was not only paying for a high priced hooker, but paying for the privilege of not using a condom, and that he was a "difficult customer" who wanted to do activities that were "dangerous and unsanitary". (That's "dangerous and unsanitary" in the opinion of a WHOREHOUSE MADAM, btw.)
Then he went home, and presumably had unprotected sex with his wife of 21 years.
Sorry, y'all. He's a dog and whorehound, and he got what he deserved.
