More on "drunkorexia"

Do eating-disorder buzzwords help fight taboos?

Video posts

While I get that making video posts is a bit more fun than doing regular typed ones, and that they allow you to make sure that what you're saying is made clear by your accompanying facial expressions and vocal inflections. Unfortunately, not everyone can - or wants to - make use of a video. Deaf people, people who don't have functioning audio cards and/or speakers, and people who just don't like having to sit through a video rather than being able to read the information at their own pace are left out of knowing what is being said when only the video is offered.

I'd like to suggest that instead of posting *only* the video, perhaps you could also post a text transcription of what is said in the video so that more users can make use of it? It would make your work more accessible and would keep users who can't, or prefer not to, listen to the audio track.

Thanks for your consideration of this suggestion!

the real problem is the sluttification of America

I've witnessed this scene. Sloshed women barely able to stand deliver themselves into the arms of horny frat boys for a night of porn-star sex they won't remember, but can post pics of on Myspace the next day. These women poison their livers and rot their brains so they can take it in every orifice hard and fast -- just to be cool. Then they can turn around and shit on any dude or chick that isn't as IT as they are. Of course, they run to the abortion clinics as necessary and get their health-care plans to pay for all the anti-depressants they need just to look at themselves in the morning after their walk of shame.

But there is always a book deal out there to keep them going, just as Ana Marie Cox or Jessica Cutler.

You go, girls... and don't forget your subsidized birth control pills and gov. funded HPV vaccinnes. Damn, the Man does keep you ladies down... on all fours and loving it, no???

(Now try not to puke while he comes in your mouth)

Give me an ounce of civet, good apothecary

As King Lear says, he needs the civet because he has foul imaginings.

Having fun, Jeebery?

And I suppose that without these sloshed young women determined to be cool, the young frat guys would be lily-white angels?

Or they're simply unable to control themselves?

Or it's simply easier to blame the girls?

Or maybe, you just like posting gross dreams.

Musings

Tracy Clark-Flory, for some reason which I can't put my finger on, I admire you more than ever.

Jeebery-Wankers: Keep the faith, brother. One day soon, God willing, we'll be able to burn those witches at the stake just like in the good old days.

People who drink and don't eat

We call them bums, alcoholics and barflies. It's not rocket science.

As long as we're combining maladies...

Hobesity: When an excessively overweight person is promiscuous.

Red Bullemia: Drinking a trendy caffeinated beverage to aid with the act of binging and purging.

Going-going-gonhorrea: A sexually transmitted disease spread by people who hook up at auction houses.

Tato-masochism: S&M performed with potatoes.

C-Spanorexia: The severe loss of appetite while watching unedited footage of congressional hearings.

if the drunken hoes did not stumble into their arms every night...

the drunken frat boys would go back to their jerk circles. or go down town and pay for it. or, god forbid, find one girl to woo*

why feminists advocate for young women to be sexually abused mannequins is beyond me. maybe they actually hate women. but there they are, telling their 8 year old daughters to get vaccinated so when they have unsafe sex they won't get cancer (and meantime, they may get brain damage, or pass out from side effects). and putting 15 year olds on the pill (don't worry about blood clots, bone thinning, or damage to your sex drive). just like the old grannies in africa, who cut their girls woman-hood off b/c they think it's good for them, it is the feminist mothers of america who feed their own girls to the sexual sausage machine

* who ever uses that word anymore? no one. b/c it's no longer necessary. you just treat a drunk bitch badly and she spreads it

@jeebery-wonkers

why feminists advocate for young women to be sexually abused mannequins is beyond me.>>>>

Say what? It's not beyond you to make up a lie.

>>>> maybe they actually hate women. but there they are, telling their 8 year old daughters to get vaccinated so when they have unsafe sex they won't get cancer (and meantime, they may get brain damage, or pass out from side effects)>>>>

There are risks to any treatment. Cervical cancer is a risk. If they did not concern themselves with this, doubtless you'd complain that the girls were neglected.

>>>>>and putting 15 year olds on the pill (don't worry about blood clots, bone thinning, or damage to your sex drive). just like the old grannies in africa, who cut their girls woman-hood off b/c they think it's good for them, it is the feminist mothers of america who feed their own girls to the sexual sausage machine>>>>

Wow. Just wow. If a girl has dysmenorrhea, sometimes a minimal dose of the pill will help. Again, all medical treatment balances one risk against another. If you were female, you'd say you sounded hysterical.

Most feminists I know regard female genital mutilation as a cimre against humanity. What lapse of logic prompts you to compare these "grannies in Africa" (with a racist subtext) to American feminists?

That final declaration...again, just wow. In addition to being one Godawful image, it's a wonderful case of victim blaming.

Do people actually believe you when you spout this?

I call bullshit.

In fact, I think you're crazy.

"Celebutards!" "tanorexia!" "Moobs!", it's all so hilarious!

I generally feel that the more difficult issues are talked about, the better. But, can't you just imagine "drunkorexic" being the latest hilarious pun with which to describe such-and-such unfortunate celebrity?

Likewise, while "manorexia" may have helped some individual men come forward and seek help for their eating disorder, the creation of these nicknames ultimately trivialises the issue. Wouldn't the sufferer be more willing to accept that there is a real and serious problem when presented with a medical diagnosis rather than a made-up media word? Another example: alcoholism may long have been thought of as solely a "male" problem and may have prevented female sufferers from speaking out, but I very much doubt that calling them "girlcoholics" (womancoholics?) would have helped much. No, what is needed is simply a more nuanced and less stigmatised discussion, without the cutesy nicknames. We are talking about a disease here.

This also reminds me of the whole 'grey rape' thing that came up a little while ago. Yes, it helped in that people may be more comfortable to talk about frightening and painful experiences, but by labelling them as different, there is an inevitable "but not as serious as..." that goes unsaid. "Grey rape" is supposedly not as serious as "plain-old-rape" (although most of the accounts I read or heard had nothing grey about them), "drunkorexia" sounds less serious (more fun, even?) than the often devastating medical reality of "anorexia".
