More on Maureen Dowd

Hillary seemed to be having a great time as a woman and a winner on Tuesday night. Was Dowd?

The letters thread is now closed.

Maureen Dowd

Let's see if the cow can still give and milk the whole Dowd deal out a little more.

Slow day, huh?

I could not agree more. There seems to be an emotional battle for democratic candidacy right now. Coupled with a slow news day, it is no surprise Dowd is spinning this emotional roller coaster into separating groups of women who are pro and against Hillary.

Personally, I will take Hillary over Obama any day - not because she seems a remarkably different candidate than the alternative, but because of the women who stand beside her - women like Madeleine Albright. I dare Dowd criticise that broad-shoulder-padded warrior. Plus, what is this "having a great time." I am done with politicians having a great time, and personally want someone to roll up their sleeves and do some actual work.

Maureen, please!

Maureen Dowd's column was ridiculous and absurdly biased. I volunteered for Hillary on Election Day in Austin, TX in my heavily African American neighborhood. As I stood in front of my polling place holding my sign encouraging people to come back that evening to caucus for Hillary, a black woman drove past and shouted "Obama, bitch!" Does this mean that all of Obama's supporters are embittered African Americans still fighting those "old" battles of the 1960's? Of course not. But if Maureen Dowd loathed Obama as much as she does Hillary, she could take that isolated incident and manufacture a hysterical story that Obama is making it "not fun" to be black. What a ridiculous woman. Incidentally, aside from that one very rude person, everyone I encountered that day (predominately Obama supporters) was friendly, encouraging, and simply excited about what a great year it is to be a Democrat. The caucus was an exhilarating experience that I'm proud to have been part of.

ksherb

Were you at 124 too? If so, I agree. That was a terrific crowd, and the whole process was, dare I say it, a great time.

Except for the guy bedizened in Hillary stickers who threw an empty pint of Wild Turkey into the bushes in front of everybody, but everyone else was so nice that I'm not going to hold him against y'all Hillary people.

Identity politics

I'm reposting this from the thread on the original article, which I just read today.

Okay. We have a situation in the Democratic primaries where around 90% of African Americans are casting votes for Barack Obama and, what, 55%, 60% of women are casting votes for Hillary Clinton, and it's only womengetting called for practicing identity politics?

This is absurd.

The fun Rebecca Traister, havin' fun on the fun Salon video of funness and funosity

Traister looks like fun. I mean, she seems to be having fun. And it's all about fun. Fun is where it's at. Fun is not only funktacular, it's also funtastic and funoramaic. I am having a fun-iption fit of fun-demonium! Mmm, let's eat funnel cake! Let's participate in the funning of the bull! Funbelieveable! I'm seeing fun spots! It's Funday! Rebecca Traister is Attila the Fun!

Hillary Clinton is all about fun. I remember when Hillary made her fun pro-Iraq-war vote, authorizing the always-fun George W. "fun times" Bush to drop Fun Bombs on that jokester guy with the funny mustache, Saddam Funnsein. You know what's really fun? Depleted urani-fun. So is the insurge-fun-sy. Thanks Hillary! Thanks for authorizing Bush to "fun-d" $trillions in "fun" money for our troops to go over and party down with the Funnis and Funnites, not to mention Al-Fundae.

Anybody remember Hillary's fun Amendment to the Constifun-tion where she wanted to abolish no-fun flag burning? That was fun. Clinton's negative campaign tactics are equally fun. Such as: "It's 3 a.m. -- and your children are fast asleep after a long day of hardcore fun. But a telephone is making a funny sound in the White House. Who will be fun enough to pick it up? And are your kids having fun dreams? What funny material is Hillary poring over in her funny glasses? This Tuesday, vote for fun."

Then there's Hillary's attack on Obama for not being fun enough regarding NAFTA (The North American Fun Times Amendment): "YOU'RE - NO - FUN, Barack Obama! These mailers of yours are no fun either!"

I thought Hillary was spot-on in her attacks of Obama being a no-fun duty head. Because Obama is no fun. Hillary, now, she's fun. And so is Ohio, where you can go to Cedar Point or King's Island and have all kinds of fun. There's plenty of time for fun when you're unemployed.....or should I say funemployed!

Clinton is fundamentally fun. She's a very high-functioning fun person full of funderstanding and various and fundry funderfulness. This isn't about the nomination, it's about the nominat-fun.

I hope that Clinton will next appear on Jimmy Kimmel in a sketch about having sex with Ben "fun" Affleck. I am also looking forward to Clinton's appearances on Jackass where she is pushed in a shopping cart into a pool full of jello and centipedes! Awesomeness! I also can't wait for Clinton to do her voice on South Park in a bit revolving around that little poop guy.

The bottom line is, Clinton is fun. And so are you Rebecca Traister! You're not fun, you're a bundle of tons of super-funola granola.

Right On, Rebecca!

Yeah - "tell it!" re: Ms. Dowd.

As an African-American woman, I feel times could not be Better! The U.S. Presidential choice is between an African-American AND a woman. Hello, people of Earth - (and this means YOU) - this IS GOOD News!

I am really beginning to wonder where all the Haters from both the Obama and Hillary sides are coming from. (We all know where the hate from the GOP is coming from, never forget.)

Living as "me," it makes me equally outraged to see both the racism and misogyny on display in the American public in the Dem Primaries -- and that such bigotry is being voiced by minorities AND women, makes me wonder What In The World happened to these individuals to make them take the "very presence" of Obama and Hillary SO Personally. Why the venom? It's obvious that it's beyond the individual candidates at hand, and therefore it's unfair, and dangerous. Something else is going on here in these folks minds....

Ye protest too much! Get thee to a shrink - ASAP! Quit pouring out your personal toxins onto the rest of us! We are not part of your "personal journey" - leave us be.

If you need" someone to "tear down" to make you feel better/superior/OK/self-righteous, or just to defend your own Ego -- until you get well -- may I suggest Mr. McCain?

Yes. Transfer your hang-ups onto him somehow, if you try hard (and I know Haters can) you can find "something."

Yes You Can! (smile!)

The only upside I see re: the Haters is that Most of the U.S. public does Not see or care what the Dowd's & other Pundits of the world think or say. Most Americans have other, more subsistent-based problems to address. Let's work to contain Pundits to his or her own echo chambers.

For the rest of us: I say Go! Duke it out, Obama & Hillary -- and may the Best candidate win the nomination and perform an electorial wipeout on McCain!!!!
