Maureen Dowd and her axe grinding against Hillary Clinton

What's with her and the Clintons? She's harder on Hillary than she is on George W. Bush! I've started skipping her columns in the Times. Does Dowd have a big-time crush on Bill Clinton that she's overcompensating for? I wonder.

before you coronate Hillary, look at this

If you feminists, who are oh-so-morally-right-and-victimized, can tolerate Clinton camp sending out pictures of Obama as a much darker guy, then your cause has already been lost...

feminism

Why don't women with big bottoms and hips like Hillary wear loose dresses; they would look so much better. Better yet, why do woman wear pants suits. Dresses are more attractive and in no way inhibit movement in normal working conditions. There is something evil in the pants suit mania.

Would you call her an orc, Rebecca?

Funny how quickly you've all turned on MoDo over her support for Obama.

"Hey, she published a misandrist book asking if Men are Neccessary! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! We love you, MoDo! Everyone who questions her is a sexist pig!"

"Hey! She's not supporting Hillary! Booooooooooo! Everyone who agrees with her is a sexist pig!"

Give me a break.

When are we going to stop talking about women's clothing?

Though in my heart I'd love to send Stacey and Clinton to advise Hillary, truly, this obsession with what she wears is absurd. This is the first time a woman has had a serious chance at the presidency, women are running corporations, and yet we still start with their outfits! Who cares what Obama wears?

Maureen Dowd, who benefits daily from the hard work and suffering of the feminists she loves to hate, has no clue about the minds and hearts of women like me-approaching 60 and supporting Hillary Clinton because we were told, as children, that we couldn't be doctors, archeologists or firemen-we had to be mommies, and maybe could be a teacher or social worker until Prince Charming came along. I don't think Hillary Clinton is a saint, but I do think she is being damned for doing what every male candidate has done.

the not-funness of womanhood

And yet, how much crap did HRC get in the 90's with her changing hairstyles? I thought "a brand new haird-do" was "why I enjoy being a girl ...'

Dowd Knows Many People

I know this because she is CONSTANTLY quoting unnamed friends and acquaintances who, through lovely coincidence, say exactly what Dowd needs to make her point - what Dowd, in fact, would say herself. Hmmm....

turnip, why did you use the subject line "feminism"? Going on and on about what women should wear to be attractive has little or nothing to do with feminism. Why don't more men wear kilts?

gezelligtexas - that's an interesting quote:

"Hey, she published a misandrist book asking if Men are Neccessary! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! We love you, MoDo! Everyone who questions her is a sexist pig!"

except that I don't remember anyone who writes for Salon saying anything like it. Didn't see it on the feminist blogs, either. Can you point to a few examples? Or is it just something you made up and attributed to a group of people you don't like?

Let's not forget that Down is an astrologist too

Her recent column comparing Clinton's Mars to Obama's Venus, raised the obvious question to her: "when are you going to take your head out of Uranus, Maureen?" She is about as relevant Tom Friedman and teats on a boar.

Is Maureen Dowd Necessary?

Why is Maureen Dowd obsessed with Monica Lewinsky?! It would appear Miss Dowd cannot write a column about Hillary Clinton without mentioning Monica Lewinsky at least once. Her column today ends with: “You did a good job, except for Monica.”

If I didn't know better, I would think Bill Clinton had

cheated on Maureen Dowd!

It's been 10 years since the press dragged out Monica. It's time to get over it, Maureen. Time to get a new fantasy boyfriend.

Re:Methinks the Lady doth protest too much

The funniest thing about Maureen Dowd having the temerity to call Hillary old, and supported by old-school feminists is that she is less than four-and-a-half years younger than Senator Clinton. Methinks Lady MacDowd's reflection in the miror reminds her too much of Hillary. And she doesn't like it one bit.

Hillary Clinton Birthdate: October 26th, 1947

Maureen Dowd Birthdate: January 14th, 1952

why does Hillary get to own "feminism"?

I don't think Dowd is going about it in a particularly productive way, but let's get serious: Hillary's support for the war in Iraq, and her masculinist refusal to denounce the "war on terror", in my book that disqualifies her feminist credentials. Entirely. Feminism is for everybody, not just women: the great contribution of feminism was to open up the conversation about what or whose issues get to be political, and to critique patriarchy for its destructive tendency to substitute might for right.

Hillary's no feminist, and she doesn't deserve the support of anyone (no matter what genitalia they might have or not have) who proudly calls themselves a feminist. She's a warmonger and a corporate tool, and she won't make the world more safe for men, women, or children. I don't care what she wears: I care what she does, and she's as intoxicated with the acquisition and maintenance of power as any masculinist jerk.

There's a reason why feminism evolved since the 1970s, to encompass a politics that values difference and an ethic of care across socioeconomic class, race, ethnicity, sexuality, and gender.

People who oppose Hillary shouldn't be called anti-feminist, and people who support Hillary shouldn't have a monopoly on calling themelves feminist -- nor should they be called "you feminists."

Maureen Dowd, ugh

I am just over Maureen Dowd. I am not sure why I'm supposed to care what she thinks. There is definitely an interactional sexism-ageism effect happening against Hillary supporters right now, and MD is happy enough to jump onboard. Not very imaginative, and she's not nearly as clever as she thinks she is, but okay! Write on, pretty lady.

I love M. Dowd

Not sure wath Dowd's grip is wiht the Clintons, but I like her sense of humor, and agree wiht her most of the time. I thhink maybe teh aturthor of this article does not get Dowd's snese of humor. Dowdis not angry, just sarcastic.

This old feminist is an Obama supporter as are most of my old pro-choice activists buddies. However many Hillary supporters I run into seem pretty edgy. maybe because their candidate is loosing.

Obama still got more delegates from TX & Ohio than Hillary.
