When Hillary attacks!

  • @Blabby One,

Did you not read the linked New York Times article?

Apparently not, so let me talk nice and slow.

    Barack and Deval are FRIENDS.

Last week they had a conversation about Hillary's attacks on Barack. Deval suggested that Barack use lines from Deval's speech and sent the copy of the speech to Barack.

Also, one of Barack's aides formerly worked for Deval. The two have a long and close relationship.

Also, do you not get that every candidate employs speechwriters?

Do you think that Hillary writes every word of her speeches?

That can't be true, because she has been leading crowd in chants of "Yes We Will!" Hmm... that sounds vaguely familiar.

Grow up. Or just stay dumb, if that works for you.

Obama writes books, and well. Are you suggesting he has no input into his own speeches, but merely parrots what someone else write? No, that was Ray-gun, a brain on a 3x5 card. This is beyond meaningless. The quote in question was, in itself, an amalgam of quotes from others, and the Governor is a supporter and confidante of Obama. Hillary and the Midol brigade are picking nits when they ought to figure out how to win an election. Regarding electability: Hillary started this race with a gargatuan edge in name recognition, organization, and money. Obama has proceeded to eclipse all three. Know what you call that, gabby? Leadership. love heywood

  • Obama makes an improvised ad lib...

And the Clinton crew calls it "plagarism." The lowest is the low is all that they know.

  • Blabby? Flabby? Midol Brigade?

Can't you see the gendered words you are using yourselves?

Gabbyone's comment does not deserve such personal attacks.

Just as a reminder being "excessively rude" violates Salon's TOS.

Attacking a woman's body or insinuating a woman talks too much are time honored ways to silence a woman and keep her in her place.

    Further, Midol Brigade?

Oh dear, all us women who take offense at gendered/sexist language MUST be PMSing! Like I haven't heard so called colleagues mutter -- must be that time of the month -- when my response to them was not to their liking on substantive issues.

This is not feminist nitpicking, it is truth.

Menstrual slams are sexist. Just as your words are sexist. Senator Obama's comment is sexist.

That you fail to see this is why sexism is still such a problem in our society.

  • @LT Bohica,

Unclench. I have no idea what gender Gabby One is.

By the way, isn't "gabby" also a word meaning "talking too much," a gender stereotype?

Last time I looked, men can be both gabby and flabby, just like women.

But only women can be shrews, LT Bohica.

(See what I just did there?)

  • Can't you see the gendered words you are using yourselves?

you are joking right? I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it to end though, especially since I don't think it at all likely that women will stop denigrating male horniness, lack of interest in housework, etc. etc. Yeah I know that when women denigrate men and maleness they are expressing legitimate unhappiness over real problems and when men put down women and femaleness they are trying to oppress women, nevertheless I doubt that this complaining/denigrating is going to end soon from either gender.

  • "Menstrual slams are sexist. Just as your words are sexist. Senator Obama's comment is sexist."

Aside from soy milk, the Indigo Girls, and Girl Scout cookies, can you name some things that AREN'T sexist? Just asking because I don't want to offend you again.

  • bohica

gabby picked her own name. flabby is gender neutral; I know because I am, somewhat. Midol brigade is Hillary's core constituency. Are you humor impaired? Constipated? Watch any evening of mainstream tee vee (if you can stand it; I can't) and check the sexual stereotyping on both genders, or ageism, for that matter. Cant' get it up, big boy? Viagra, you limp old fart. So don't hand me the Steinham crap. I was raised by a strong woman who will be 88 in three days, have been married to a strong woman for almost 38 years, and we raised two brillIant beautiful professional women who are 35 and 32, respectively, and haven't needed Daddy's protection since they were about twelve. In our family, the women don't take assertiveness training; they give it. A gender neutral orifice reference comes to mind, but, hoping vainly for sanity and peace, I will forego it. love, heywood

  • Truth and the Big Picture

How we are ever going to make things better if people can't see beyond their narrow mindset "boxes"?

Why do people misunderstand each other so much more easily than they understand each other?

Why do people attack each other so easily?

    Why are people so hypocritical?

This is what I think is most important in regard to this quote and these issues:

I am not sure how intentional Barack's comments were, but he doesn't seem to treat her with the respect he would treat a male "opponent."

I support Hillary because she is the most qualified candidate, I would support her if she was black and male and the most qualified candidate, while the other candidate was an under-experienced younger white woman.

I do think Hillary's whole career and reputation has been negatively and wrongly affected by sexism - that is just a truth and reality. People criticize her in ways they would never criticize a man. They treat her with a disrespect that they wouldn't use on men.

Is that why I'm supporting her? No.

It's because she's the most qualified.

The reason why Barack won't debate her is because she is more knowledgeable and it shows in the debates. Most people who aren't biased, or focused on only one issue - agree that she excels in the debates.

Debates - where candidates have to think on their feet - where they don't have the luxury of speeches that are written for them, or the luxury of the time it takes to write a book - that is where you find out what the candidates themselves really have to offer in terms of knowledge, experience, competency in governing.

Obama does need speeches and he does need handlers, because he is inexperienced, and he doesn't really know what he's doing. He said in his 60 Minutes interview that he had to think about his candidacy and would he be able to 'pull it off'. That's what I've been picking up on all along that I don't like - he's not really qualified - he is trying to 'pull this off.' That is not what we need right now.
