Letters to the Editor

Over, under, sideways, down
Wow. Around 300 letters, a veritable typhoon in a teapot, and over what? A handful of words -- identity politics, as ever, like a bagful of badgers. But the Clinton camp's been tested, as they like to say. You've seen what the GOP can dish out, and you can take it. Sure. As this thread amply demonstrates.
Good thing Clinton's not a polarizing candidate, or I'd be worried about her prospects in the general election with the independent majority, who aren't as worshipful of Clinton as the Clintonites are. For all of the snide media referencing of the "cult" of Obama (and if he's a cult, then what's the mainstream religion? Sallow mediocrity?), he's able to outdraw McCain on independents, even as McCain is able to outdraw Clinton on independents.
How will Clinton's "lose the Independent vote" strategy play into her plan for winning the general election, exactly? That's what her advocates need to be thinking about, rather than parsing words and pointing Kool-Aid-stained fingers: how does Clinton win the general election?

re: No one sees a "period" reference here, like he's implying that Hillary is on the rag or has PMS? Cause it's pretty obvious to me.
Particularly in an election CYCLE!
a cycle, like menstrual cycle - like that gross blood and stuff coming from a woman -like Hillary - who supported Bush (there I go again - bush - like pussy hair) in his BLOODY wars (hey, that rhymes with whores).
After watching Michele Obama in a few speeches, doesn't she seem like the type of woman who would advise her husband to make subtle references to Hillary's period?

@ LT Bohica
A fascinating point given that you have just doen the same thing you are accusing Obama of- echoing a previously expressed sentiment as framed by someone else.
If you want to start grading on originality, by all means let's go back and look at the rhetorical flourishes that made Bill Clinton such an admired speaker. The same charge was leveled against him- by Republicans angry that their best lines had been stolen. Fundamentally, though, as your own "plagerized" sentiments evidence, politics is about the ideas that underlies pithy expressions.
I leave you with this enobling thought: "Ask not what your country can do for you, but waht you can do for your country"

Parsing Obama
It's amazing how the narrative changes when Obama gets parsed:

Down.?.
I have never seen Hillary Clinton down, she is always amiling and up beat as opposed to Obama who I have never seen smile. Maybe he is reflecting his true inner self. As for attacks....pointing out the other candidates mistakes is called competing in an election. His air of Don't criticize me..I am perfect.....I walk on water.....I will always be right the first time is a little messianic and scary quite frankly. His cult of followers seem almost rabid as they defend him. Yesterday ex-governor Wilder from Virginia threatened a war if he doesn't win. His comments on Hillary in snide little ways, "your likeable enough","suddenly the claws come out," and now, "when she get down...she attacks" would never be said about a man and should worry women about what he realy thinks of them. He wants your vote and then wants you to go have your PMS attack out of his range.

Hey Slackie
Hey Slackie,,,,,,who is is now that is the polarizing candidate? These were the words of your guy. He needs every vote to win..
-
My plaigiarism? Look the word up before you use it.
Yes, nothing is ever truly original as all thought borrows and builds from the past.
However, a plagiarist is someone who does not give credit for what they use, but instead presents other's thoughts and words as his or her own.
How can I be a plagiarist when I gave credit to others by mentioning up front that I have been reading analysis of Senator Obama's words that shows he is stealing from others and I provided two links to illustrate the point?
In no way did I claim that my point was my original thought -- so I think your attack is unwarranted.
I can provide more links, but I tend to find comments from people who do nothing but expect you to click other places tiresome.
And yes -- I agree JFK was a thief as well. Do you know that Sorensen, JFK's speech writer, is actively assisting Senator Obama's writing team?
Regarding Si, se puede... I saw Dolores Huerta speak Saturday and believe you me, she was not happy to have her intellectual property cribbed by Senator Obama.
The point of my original comment was that Senator Obama's supposed strength -- words -- is a con. His words are stolen from others. When he is forced to speak on his own without a teleprompter or prepared speech, he stumbles and in the instance of the quote we are commenting on here -- exposes an inner sexist.

LT- you are right on
LT,
I read an interview in the New York Tines with Obama's
26 year old speech witer that says he read JFK, MLK and others to craft speeches for Obama. Sounds like he is doing more than reading. I think if people like what Obama says, this is the guy they should really be voting for...he's the inspiration. Obama is simply the reader.

It seems even his policies are not original
From Salon yesterday "Today, reporters received an e-mail with a quote from Kevin Hassett, John McCain's economic advisor. Speaking about Barack Obama's economic plan, Hassett said, "The fact is that Obama's plan today is the most shameless piece of potential plagiarism that I have ever seen. He basically took [Hillary] Clinton's words and Clinton's policies and called them his own. If I were a professor I'd give him an F and try to get him kicked out of school for something this terrible." This email was actually sent by Hillary's campaign but the quote was from McCain's advisor.

Obama Recognizes His Sources
The connection Obama draws to the historical traditions of his sources, including Si, se puede are every bit as explicit as your own recognition of your sources. If the Obama opposition are down to criticizing the footnotes, then Clinton really is just about over. We are now simply moving toward the cacophony of checkmate.
