...but the idea of parents and kids, getting ready to start their day, watching something 'light' and relatively informing like the Today show, only to hear Jane Fonda utter the word, "cunt" is in itself, hilarious. The shock and horror showing on the parents faces will no doubt only add to the delight of their children going to school and mimicking Ms. Fonda.

However, before everyone gets their panties in a twist over this, remember these two things: 1) murder, rape and violent crime is perfectly acceptable for television audiences, so what harm could the word, "cunt" possibly do, and 2) the sad fact that this will be made into such a big deal is what perpetuates the insanity.

Maybe the Today Show should know better than to do a story on "The Vagina Monologues" while we're all having our morning coffee OR maybe it's time for us, as a nation, to grow up and stop acting like juveniles everytime we hear a 'dirty' word.

I don't think Fonda and Ensler were trying to insult or turn New Orleans into a joke. The whole point is that it's supposed to be a good thing to be the vagina of America. The comment is meant to evoke a sense of solidarity between lovers of the Vagina Monologues and New Orleans.

(Not that I am particularly a lover of the Vagina Monologues -- not my style -- but I think the comment about New Orleans was complimentary.)

I saw only a brief clip on YouTube, so I'm not quite sure if Jane was being "flippant" or was simply chatting away, and forgot(she's nearing 70, is she not?) that it was LIVE, and not being taped for editing later.

In any case, I really think that as vulgar as the word can sound, we've excused words which are disgusting and hurtful, and words that kill, every day.I'm speaking of course, about the words--the lies--which cajoled this country into war-- the lies that came from the lips of Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, Condelezza Rice, Colin Powell(the ONLY ONE who has apologized)and George W.

We hear, day in and day out, about a war we are throwing more young men and women into everyday, the lives lost because of our putting them(our soldiers) in harm's way and the killing of the Iraqi people.We are told we are fighting for "freedom", but we are as tethered as dogs on a chain. How hilarious that American TV is so childish and the laws are so bizarrelyly censorious that such a thing as saying "cunt" could have any consequence at all. I live in Canada and recall back when what'sherface Jackson had a costume malfunction and people were wetting themselves over this trivia, I switched channels and watched a man being transformed into a woman..full surgery before and after close-up and in detail and thought nothing of it. Ditto for full frontal nudity on Canadian TV and speech is never EVER censored with bleeps and bops unless it was done before being transmitted from the US. I suspect this lack of censorship is true for Europe as well. The US has become a Puritan version of Iran and so it is laughable when people in the US talk of Iran as a theocratic dictatorship which sadly it is but do not realise that they themselves live in one, as well, in which children are taught twaddle such as Creationism and the latest version called Intelligent design. It is a lot worse than saying the word "cunt" to say the world was created in 7 days, that folks hung out with dinosaurs and that the human race owns the planet and all things on it.
