Has there ever been a person running for political office
who has NOT been caricatured in some savage way?
I remember reading an old cartoon from circa 1901 which suggested/excoriated Teddy Roosevelt for allegedly having an illegitimate son. To this day, Nixon masks which cruelly ape the beleagured former president's nose are popular during Halloween.
And loooong before "Bush-isms", my folks & their friends would make savage jokes about how mentally retarded Gerald Ford was.
So is it unfortunate that Hillary is a "victim" of people's hatred - expressed on tee-shirts and the like? Yes.
Is it anything really all that new? Nope.
Signed,
Proud owner of a "Bros before Hos" Barack 'n' Hillary tee-shirt

Sounds like the Flip Side of the "General Betray-us" noncontroversy
OK, where are all the media gasbags asking Republicans and calling Republican Party offices to demand that they disavow these kind of tactics? You know, the kind of questions that Democrats get hit with about Sister Souljah, or some unpopular ACLU stand, or some remark by Jesse Jackson. Maybe we should ask the Republican Party in Florida (unfortunate home of the "Citizens United" farce) why they have not disavowed, or condemned, or whatever this kind of slur.
If nobody else will, I guess I'll have to call. If anybody would like to join me, the number is (850)222-7920.

You can stop fanning yourself with righteous indignation now
It's not like you didn't see this coming. We all did. It's no different than what they did to her when Bill was president.
You should be happy. She can play the victim now and more women will vote for her who would otherwise vote for someone else. I wouldn't be surprised if she decided to "cry" again.
What concerns me about this is that it makes it easier for the Hillbots to dismiss those who have legitimate reasons not to support her.

I'm no fan of Hillary
Her husband is a big part of the reason that I voted for Nader in 1996 and in 2000. If Hillary gets the nomination this year, I'll vote Green again.
That said, these blatantly sexist attacks on her sicken me. I could fill pages with reasons to hate her, starting with the fact that she's basically a Republican-lite of the same mold as her hubby.
But to attack her gender with these crude, junior high school-level wisecracks, well, it only proves that Republicans are mostly stupid.
I especially found the implications of the KFC-styled t-shirt amusing. Hillary, a left-winger? Give me fuckin' break!!! Aside from throwing a few token liberal bones, like her and Bill's support for legal abortion, the Clintons are just as right wing as Ronald Reagan ever was.

Liberal Media Smear campaign of Hillary
Democrats smear HRC too. Take a look at the so called liberal press. Unbelievable. Never a fair or balanced comment about HRC, and Obama continues to get a free ride. For example, nary a media comment when Obama flew back to Chicago after he lost the Nevada causcus, but media attack dogs came out when Hillary provided a short congratulatory message after South Carolina. When you compare the vile spin about HRC to the media spin about Republican primary candidates, interestng how the media has not chosen to smear any of the Republicans. The tone is so civil when critiquing male candidates. Thank God for Bill Clinton, for without his critiques of Obama, and the replies from Obama, no one would know anything about Obama. "Propoganda in '08" should be Obama's slogan.

Hey, at least nobody's called her an Orc.
Ah, the whiff of hypocrisy.... While I agree with Traister in principle, considering her (Traister's) own name-calling in recent weeks, I find her protests to be just a bit much.

I'm shocked, shocked to learn that gambling is allowed at Rick's American Cafe... and that anyone would sell offensive, adolescent t-shirts lampooning political figures...
http://bushandcheneysuck.com/
So, exactly how long has it been since Salon voiced its disapproval of "www.bushandcheneysuck.com"?
Or, is "bushandcheneysuck.com" a Salon sponsor? Salon editors or contributors, perhaps?
-
Comparisons to Bush don't cut it
He really IS a dumb liar. Not a thing wrong with lampooning him based on factual truth.
This renews my sympathy for HRC - although I am not stupid enough to vote for her based on that.

Give melthough a red star! Excellent parody of feminist thought processes melthough!
Well done, but though I understand your parody, I insist that there are many feminists that don't try to rationalize why their behavior is okay, while the identical behavior in other people is sexist or racist.
Well done parody, very sly, very subtle, very dry.

Where are the "John Edwards Is an Orc" T-shirts?
Ha ha, just kidding. I can't resist the opportunity to refer to one of Rebecca Traister's most shameful and ridiculous moments. It's probably because to this day, neither Traister nor anyone else at Salon has offered any kind of explanation for that bizarre outburst of a not-really-an-article article.
But whatever. Compiling a big list of Hillary-bashing slogans and other gimmicks is fun. You know, this stuff didn't crop up overnight. A lot of these things are just rehashes of material from when Bill Clinton was president and Hillary's health-care plan had people asking, "Who hired her?"
I think we can all agree that sexism is alive and well in the United States. The really weird part of it is how many women participate in the practice. Sure, there are men who are dumb enough to wear a "I Wish Hillary Had Married O.J." T-shirt. But what about their wives and girlfriends who gleefully encourage them to do so? What's up with them?
Racism is alive and well, too, but you don't see people trying to make a quick buck with Obama-hating T-shirts (or do you?). Is it because people won't cross those lines, or do people not hate Obama as much as Hillary? Or are these T-shirts and other merch in anticipation of her likely Democratic candidacy? (As much as I hate to admit it, I am afraid she's going to edge out Obama in the big primaries.)
I am torn on this whole subject. On the one hand, I hate the Limbaughs of the world who get off on bashing Hillary. On the other hand, from the angle of pure comedy, Hillary is ripe for satire and other fun-poking.
I was a longtime subscriber to Spy Magazine, and they did some excellent Photoshopped covers of both Bill and Hillary throughout the 1990s. Spy's "health care" cover had a freakish image of Hillary pulling up a proctologist's glove. Later they had a pretty hot image of Hillary in S&M gear. There was also one where Hillary's skirt was blown up to reveal a bulge in her undies.
Anyway, what's with the "I love country music" rebus? If Hillary is the part between the "love" and the "tree," wouldn't that make her a "cun"?
