the idea of renewing segregation for the protection of women makes me queasy.

Really?

How do you feel about VAWA when we know that in the United States at least, women are equal perpetrators of domestic violence as men?

How do you feel about speech codes that FIRE documents are so often used to protect women from what they (often times incorrectly) perceive as offensive speech? (google FIRE water buffalo)

How do you feel about gender discrimination in the courts, as in NOW lobbying AGAINST joint shared custody and lobbying FOR sole custody?

How do you feel about internships and other educational opportunities that are open only to women?

How do you feel about high school sports programs that are either a) men and women or b) women only but never can be c) men only. That is, how do you feel about b) women only teams for sports like field hockey at schools that do not have men's field hockey?

How do you feel about the girls crisis, and how do you feel about the boy crisis, and how should each of these crises be resolved?

Are you sure you're not for the renewing of segregation for women to protect them?

Sorry in advance to the 99% of men who are decent...

But why are the rest of you guys in the 1% so lame that you can't keep your hands to yourselves? Disgusting. Again I wonder why it is that women get the rap as being the "hormonal" ones.

renewing segregation for women to protect them....

How do you feel about "Broadsheet" and the non-creation of "GenderSheet"

How do you feel about the segregation and ghetto and the banning of deletion of comments at the vast majority of your blogroll?

Come off it, 99% of feminists are the first to play the victim card. I have a vagina, I am being oppressed!

Sorry in advance to the 99% of women that are decent,

Why are so many women manipulative cunts that can't treat anyone fairly, much less each other?

It would make more sense to create disincentives for men to grope

...and it would probably be cheaper to.

changing the world - in this case, the bus system and who gets to ride it when and where - instead of creating an expectation for men to behave in a civilized manner will merely perpetuate / institutionalize the inequalities that are behind the behavior in the first place.

Put cameras on the buses. Put a security guard on them, too. Accused gropers are immediately ejected from the bus. Gropers caught on tape are fined $1,000 and cannot get a bus pass for 2 years. Encourage passengers to be witnesses with signage.

Maybe, just occasionally, a woman might spitefully accuse a man of groping just to have him ejected. Such instances would be rare but sure, it will happen. Men will just have to suck it up, I guess, just like women have had to for all these years while being groped. I guess if they get unhappy enough, they'll come up with a solution that is a minimal inconvenience to BOTH genders.

I do feel bad for women

that a tiny minority of men must mess things up and color the rest of our experiences.

to be fair though, let's begin to dissect what it is that a small minority of women do to men that is bad or offensive, then let's set up laws, rules, regulations that punish all women equally for the behavior of that small 1% minority of women.

I am all for it.

If men are all to be branded as out of control libidinous freaks, let's begin to give women equal scrutiny. Why be easy and charitable towards women? -- that sort of chivalry is sexist anyway. Are women not ALSO able to influence, affect, harm or hurt men?

Let's begin a concerted effort to catalog the excesses, transgressions, offenses, and calamities of women.

Whew

I'll bet a crowded bus or subway car without men is also quite a bit less smelly.

What about when women step off the bus or train -- where's their protection then?

Exactly, women need not just male free buses but a male free society. Still, as the article pointed out, the ability of the women to see men being put in their place i.e off the bus, provides at least a little emotional relief.

Shocked! Shocked!

The female-only bus is not a solution.

It is a secondary symptom of the problem.

How about a brightstar-free bus?

It would be packed.

You are incorrect, there are female field hockey teams that have one or two male members because there is no male field hockey team. I think I read somewhere that most school counties follow the sports are single sex when there are enough people participating to make up an entire male and female team. If there are only enough funds or interested participants to make a female or male team, that team has to allow the few opposite sex interested parties to join.

But I think there are some basic complaints because once again, physiology is not fair. Men have greater strength on average than women do, so a woman on an all male team isn't an advantage if they play against an all male team. A male on a female team, playing against an all female team has an advantage. I think that was partially the point of the field hockey article in Sports Illustrated.

As to why there is now a change from joint custody to sole, I don't know why that is. Was there a study that shows that a sole custody arrangement is better for the children? Does joint custody create more turmoil in a childs life than sole custody does? Child custody and support is based on the best interest of the child, not the mother, not the father. So while I agree that automatic sole custody granted to the mother is not fair if there is no reason for it, there really isn't anything I can do about it other than not do it the father of my children, if I ever have any. Perhaps there should be a dudesheet that can cover the male half of custody issues and news, on that I agree that the Salon website is all over mommy wars, breast feeding, pumping, daycare, loss of career mobility and woefully lacking in the father side of things.

Also, in case you are interested single father homes have increased in the United States by 61 percent(if Supernanny was correct) Apparently some men are winning the custody battles and not all women are automatically granted custody of the children for being the mother.

As for the single sex buses, I think it's a band-aid for the larger problem that for whatever reason, a large percentage of men think it's okay to cop a feel on a stranger. These countries probably need to send out more public messages like strangers bodies aren't for the groping, keep your hands to yourselves!
