Hmmm. Is this true?
I went to wild parties in college, but the girls were fully dressed (dammit). If it's true that they're showing up in their undies for parties, then even though my inner Benny Hill is cheering, my inner John Houseman wants to give them 35 cents and an order to call their parents to come pick them up.
Seriously, this ain't right.

"Legally drunk"
Among the ridiculous points in the ABC "news" article is the concept of "legally drunk" (a pet peeve of mine in many of these articles and news stories). "Legally drunk" to do what? Drive? Well, yes, .08% BAC in most states means that you are "legally drunk" and should not drive. It does not mean, however, that you are "legally drunk" as to walking down the street, partying, or otherwise. Perhaps the researchers are more precise in their journal article -- one should hope so -- but I am tired of journalists failing to get this concept down. How about just "drunk" or "intoxicated" and leaving the "legal" part out of it unless the subjects in question are driving or boating?

Dude, that's like totally equal opportunity inebriation.
Well, no it's not.
Since we know Tracy, that if both man and woman are equally shitfaced and fuck on the floor, that the man WILL be charged with rape the next morning if the woman can't remember what happened.
Why? Because for all your snark about how we shouldn't be shocked that woman would drink, you also support gendered laws that demand that all the responsibility fall on the man.
So why do woman get more drunk when wearing almost nothing? It's because they know that by doing so, they not only lose their inhibitions, but it's also step one towards losing their legal responsibility.

From the past: TCF on gray rape. It's the guy's responsibility. It is the guy's fault.
The dangers of drinking to the point of incapacitation are real -- they should be talked about. We should also talk about the fact that it's often hard for women who were raped while they were intoxicated to the point of incapacitation to come to terms with their experience -- or to feel justified in calling it what it was. It's possible to talk about and question the nuances, the gray areas, without either blaming the victim or minimizing sexual assault when alcohol is involved. Women are responsible for their actions; they're not responsible for others' actions.
That's all they really want
Some fun
When the working day is done
Girls - they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun

I agree that somevvbody shouldn't call rape just because she was inebriated but...
did the article have anything to do with rape?
Sounds like somebody has a grudge against women. Never mind that little girls, old women, and young women are battered and raped by men every day. And it is not their fault.
On a lighter note, those parties sound just like the ones I went to 25 years ago in college. Okay, I wasn't in lingerie except on Halloween, but I seriously doubt these girls are either.
Gosh, sexual young women sure are scary aren't they! We better shut them up or scare them somehow.

At least they're not mean old Mr. John Edwards!
And I DO hope you lassies won't complain too too much when, in 5 years and your drunk bareassed, panties round your ankles face down who was that guy I just blew/girl I just licked cell phone camera panorama is up on Facebook, that employer takes a pass on your job application.

So this is the feminist utopia, right?
Women free to do **whatever** they please with their bodies, however self-destructive that may be. Mandatory vaccines for children so they can feel free to participate in such orgies. Subsidized birth control so there is no need to worry about getting pregnant. Subsidized abortions in case -- whoops! -- you do. Free government health care to pay for the liver transplants, alcohol addictions, and depression that ensues. Rape statues to make sure you can blame somebody else even if you can't remember what you did. Child support laws so you can pay off your drink tabs. And MySpace pages to brag about your drunken exploits.
When you step back and look at things this is really a major accomplishment for women. A real milestone in women's health and well-being has been achieved here. What a wonderful society third wave feminist has created for us. Yes, my hat is off to Hillary, Joan, and their pals for all the great things they've achieved.
P.S. And I will eat it if Hillary or another pro-feminist sex, love, and drugs baby-boomer ever wins a caucus in Iowa. You did yourselves in, girls.

I would draw you a picture Meredoo,...
The article was about TCF's complaint's that society has different expectations concerning drinking for men and women.
And I agree with her that both men and women should be able to drink and society should not treat them differently in those expectations.
However, I was also pointing out that TCF herself places a different responsibility on that drinking behavior. TCF herself says the women are not responsible for the outcomes of their own choices. TCF says that men must be the responsible ones when two people drink.
This is because, fundamentally, TCF either hates men, or doesn't think that women can cope with responsibility.
I think we should end society's gendered based laws. I think this, because I am a feminist, and I wish to encourage more of you very gendered old fashioned thinking Church Ladies to become feminists as well, and strive for a future in which any man and any woman can strive to fulfill any role they desire, regardless of their sex, and no law or society expectation will constrain them.
It's a pity about TCF hating men, and hating feminism, and thinking so poorly of women, but hey, I have to call them as I see them.

Sample scope
Researchers in Southern California hit fraternity row, house parties and local pubs...
So they went to places where people are drinking and used it to determine that people are getting drunker.
Or maybe the drunks are just getting drunker.

This was my college utopia
I can't get pregnant of course, but I was free to indulge in all the self-destructive behavior I cared to, and I cared to indulge a great deal, as did most of my friends; so, why should it be any different for girls than for guys, exactly?
Gee, come to think of it, I can't recall any real gender disparity in our boozing and using when I was in college; why, it's almost like this entire "study" is baseless...
