Brightstar, I would never say, women deserve to have it easier than MEN!
nor did I imply it. The criminal justice system in America treats men, for the most part, harsher than it does women. (Well, unless a woman forgets and leaves her kid in the car.) But when it comes to capital cases, or drug charges, women get it easier. It ain't right.
It's also not right that black men are more likely to serve time than their white counterparts who committ the sam crimes.
Unfairness is unfairness and I'm certainly not on of those women who thinks women should be treated like little flowers.
But you have to admit, that the Saudi Arabian laws (and the punishment for folks breaking the law) are ridiculously harsh. And that it's unfair that women get it worse over there. Though, I think serving time in jail, though awful, doesn't necessarily compare with getting stoned to death, beheaded, and/or 200 lashes.
Besides, Canuckistan Bob (I beleive) said this a common occurence in Saudi Arabia. The person get's pardoned, and it has probably happened in the case of men as well. It's a big deal here because the woman was raped and then sentenced to 200 lashes, even if she technically broke the law. There are two sets of laws, it appears in Saudi Arabia, for women and men. Even though juries and prosectors might seek differing sentences based on gender, it's not like there's a different law on the books that says, A woman murders someone and her punishment is 2 years in prison. A man punishes someone...well I hope you get the point.
