  • Boys in the girls room?

This is a disaster waiting to happen. One can not even imagine the harm this will cause our people, our country and the world. A sacred trust will have been violated and the sanctity of the toilet is further besmirched as if Senator Craig's toe tapping wasn't bad enough.

I know that liberals will think this is a non issue and make light of our concerns about this breech of public morality and good taste, but there is another side to this coin which has already dropped the other shoe upon our disaster plagued nation.

Women have been using Men's room's quite openly for at least the past ten years in stadiums, colosseums, race tracks and even public gatherings and this even happens on the mall in Washington D.C. amidst the monuments to our once great nation.

Just look what has happened to our country in those ten years - impeachment of Clinton, Bush as President, 911, eternal war, a massive national debt, the Democrats have become Republicans, there is an epidemic of obesity, you cannot buy a soda pop with sugar in it anymore, reality television, American Idol, YouTube, Beowulf and to top it all off, regular TV is being killed off in 2008!!!

Ladies, please stop using the men's room. Perhaps it is not too late to turn back the tide and save America.

And men, do not even THINK about using a ladies room.

  • You know, I moved to San Francisco

to get away from religious bigots. I LIKE that my son goes to high school with gay people and has no problem with it. I LIKE that he knows transgendered people and is not scared/threatened by them. A girl who identifies as a boy in his locker room or vice versa? My son could not care less and that makes me happy. And he loves the ladies, but I can hardly see him pretending to be one, just to get access to a locker room. That's absolutely laughable.

Raise your kid without prejudices? Oh the horror, the horror, Jesus is crying somewhere, better step in.

I thought we had escaped religious/homophobic bigotry when we left Oklahoma, but unfortunately, nuts are everywhere.

I hope these zealots choke on their own bile.

  • At least co-ed locker rooms encourage healthy heterosexuality

Forcing kids of the same gender to use the same locker rooms is like opening a gay and lesbian recruitment center in your school. Guys cruising other guys and girls cruising other girls is the least of it; all of that group showering, butt-slapping, and towel-snapping inevitably leads to toe-tapping in the stalls and worse! The moral fibers of this once-great nation are crumbling, simply crumbling under the onslaught of same-sex locker room perversion.

  • Nancy Ott is the best.

    She's wicked!

    She's funny!

    She's wicked funny!

I'm finishing up an Auschwitz book and the fundies keep reminding me of the Nazis that I've been researching. The Nazis said that they weren't safe from the Jews, so what were those poor Nazis cum victims supposed to do, but, but, but...build death camps!

Star Parker recently suggested concentration camps for gay Americans.

As Ms. Lloyd noted so well, there is danger in America's locker rooms: the bigots.

  • What am I missing here?

How exactly will anti-discrimination protections for sexual orientation in schools lead to forced accommodation of boys in girls' locker rooms? No self-aware gay teen boy is going to clamor to use the girls' locker room--if anything, he'll endure the occasional taunts or harassment to enjoy the titillation of being in the boys' locker room. Phys Ed class is like a daily megadose of wank material. DUH.

If these right-wingers had any clue, you'd think they'd be petitioning to FORCE gay teens to use the opposite sex locker rooms instead of same sex! LOL

And if it's transgender/transsexual issues they're most worried about, how common are those among high school students anyway? Of course they exist, but nowhere near in large enough numbers for anyone to get their panties in a bunch (sorry, I couldn't resist.) Doesn't use of certain restrooms for trans people usually only become a concern once they've had gender reassignment surgery, or have lived as the opposite gender for long enough, with hormone treatment, that they could reasonably be perceived as that gender? How likely a situation is that going to be in your average high school or middle school? Maybe in Thailand or the city of San Francisco, but highly unusual elsewhere I'd venture to guess. I doubt that school administrators in even San Francisco would let a muscular, masculine, athletic jock dude use the girls' restroom simply because he said he thinks he's really a girl trapped in a boy's body! C'mon people.

  • But what's funny is that

If it did, you'd be screaming right along side with them, wouldn't you?

It's not the claim itself but the silliness of it happening that has you irked.

  • Thanks, Broadsheet.

    Carol, you nailed this one.

What they're upset about is the challenge to their supposedly divine mandate to abuse others. They have no thought for the equal humanity and value of people different from themselves. The only understanding they have of control over their own lives and comfort in their own values is their ability to kick others around.

I mean look, they're suing over their schools' now-clarified inability to legally maltreat, abuse or neglect other people's CHILDREN because of their sexuality.

  • there might be a third option I guess and that is that they believe they can get away with grabbing total and unaccountable power

unconstrained by rationality of the rule of law in any meaningful sense.

  • Well, Hell, Let's Game it Out

So the law passes using some vague terminology about gender identity.

Some smart-ass sophomore boy decides that his life sucks enough anyway, so he may as well get to see some titty, and claims he's woman in a boy's body, and needs to use the girl's locker room.

This punk is not only a smart-ass, but also has balls, so he fights his way into court.

    What happens next?

I think the terms should probably be clarified. It might be necessary to provide for a personal privacy partition for any student who wanted it, no matter which room they end up in, and which junk they got.

  • ....

It amazes me at just how out of touch the religious conservatives are. It's already pretty normal for the gay boys to use the girl's bathrooms. At the bar I go to here in Tulsa (yup, we have tolerance and acceptance in Oklahoma now too!) there are two bathrooms. One is for guys, the other ones is for everyone.

Personally I think the best thing to do would be to make the locker rooms more like a department store changing room. Everyone has a little room with a door on it. It's private and it wouldn't matter if you had someone of a different gender or sexual preference in the room next to you.
