  • The home of the Religion of Peace

Saudi Arabia, home of the Religion of Peace, vicious dictatorship, barbaric and savage, friend to the Bushes.

Hey liberals, you aint' off the hook - you stick up for Islam. Well here it is, in all its glory. Enjoy.

  • By the looks of it...

it's George W. Bush and his administration that's "sticking up for it". Not exactly liberals, they. At least they've taken strong measures against Saudi abuses past and present in general and refuse to provide any assistance to an oppressive theocratic monarchy. Oh wait...

  • What about the other women?

The way things work in Saudi, I betcha almost anything that eventually the judges will discover a missing piece of evidence or a missed procedure or something. Or there will be an act of "clemency" or something. It just has to be done without looking like the result of infidel pressure; now that Western displeasure has been made known, probably the best thing everyone can do is shut up and let the Saudi idiots save some face.

cf the William Sampson case: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Sampson_%28author%29

What bugs me, is that this woman is likely going to be saved by the international outcry. What about all the other women lashed and imprisoned for similar offences, that we haven't heard of?

  • I say we invade SA

change the laws so INSTEAD the men get punished for THEIR sexuality like they do here in the States.

    signed,

A Male Nobody Tool of the Feminarchy.

  • Ah, the House of Saud: the Bush family's bestest friends.

Such a nice business partner, that Saudi Monarchy. Shame about the whipping of rape victims. Too bad that the majortiy of the 9-11 hijackers came from Saudi Arabia. Let's invade Iraq!

Conservatives the world over share a profound hatred of women and sex. Muslim, Christian, Jew, Hindu: doesn't matter. They're all throwbacks.

  • Brightstar,

You do realize that being raped is not actually an expression of the victim's sexuality, don't you? Please, reality for ONE second, dropping the "I been wronged the wrongest" and just touch reality for the one second it would take to say, wow, that really sucks?

  • Oh Browndwarf65

At least you got the first 4 words of your description right. A Male Nobody Tool

You make less sense every time you post. Soon you'll just be hitting random keys. I'd say quit while you're ahead, but you've been a behind ever since you started posting here.

For you to equate your still being a dateless virgin at 50 to what happened to this poor girl simply shows that you haven't the slightest bit of empathy or capacity for reason.

Please, heed the words of Mark Twain who said "It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt."

If you're quiet long enough, perhaps some of the doubt will return.

  • @ Anonymous

I stick up for any people who apply their religious beliefs to peace and justice. That includes some Muslims I've known. I'm disgusted and infuriated by those who apply theirs to violence and authoritarianism. That includes some Christians I've known.

Practically every religious belief system we've ever known has been used monstrously by somebody, some regime, at some time. Saudi Arabian "Islam" does not stand for all Islam, just like American fundamentalist "Christianity" does not stand for all Christianity.

  • Human Rights Issue

This is not a liberal or conservative issue; it's a human rights issue. I was SHOCKED at the official response, and I thought surely that's not all we said! Supposedly we're all about freedom, and waging an entire war based on the idea, but we're not willing to try to stop crimes like this? I am completely appalled.

  • Liberal

This is not a liberal or conservative issue; it's a human rights issue.

Okay, but the U.S. Republican party is solidly against human rights in general.

  • Sharia Law

There are no liberals supporting Sharia law (if they are, then their liberal cards will be revoked), and in fact Sharia law is more in line with what the Christian Conservative fundies want to impose through their efforts to bring about an American Christian theocracy. Liberalism, by definition, is against religious fundamentalism in government no mater what religion the fundamentalism comes from. Separation of church and state is a universally accepted political plank of all progressives and liberals. Only a few fringe America conservatives actually want intelligent design taught as science, biblical text accepted as law, public stonings of homosexuals, and enforce defined submissive family roles for women (all of which coincideds with Sharia law perfectly).

That said however, I, as a progressive, do not want to declare war on all of Islam, nor do I want to impose American values onto another nation by force.

But I think sending Brightstar65 to Saudi Arabia to fight radical Islam, would be a good idea, because he seems so eager to do so, but I would rather he raise his own money to fight that war.

  • What has Hillary or the Democratic hopefuls said about this?

If we had an independent energy policy (I know that is a pipe dream) and we and our government were not over a barrel as it were we could actually diplomatically confront these retrograde losers. This is one more reason to develop wind and solar. Bush sounds more like a mid level manager for Chevron then the President.

If I were the President (now there is an idle threat)I would make it a national goal to build one giant windmill a day for each day of my Presidency. Two a day would be even better. Now that is something concrete the whole country could embrace and it would us take a positive direction. The Nationalists could have more leverage in foreign policy and the Environmentalists could have cleaner air.

Win Win. Don't get angry, get effective.

  • "Our Allies"

    Pathetic and despicable.

Who benefits from our close relationship with the Saudis? Is it just Big Oil men, or are there any decent people?

Do business with the Devil long enough and bystanders stop being able to tell you apart. Pretty sure we've surpassed that point by now.

  • 'sept for 3 Things

Please, heed the words of Mark Twain who said "It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt."

    1. There is a gender war going on

    2. I could care less what women think

    3. All is fair in love and war

What pisses you women off so much is that some guys are finally taking you up on the war.
