way to conflate the argument
Just because having your children taken from you is bad still doesn't mean that a woman (or a man) DESERVES to BE RAPED. Which is exactly what Mr. A and BS65 are saying. Strangely enough, I argee that women who commit "paternity fraud" should be punished and deserve no child support. I also don't believe in single custody, or the presumption that mothers should get sole custody in divorce cases. I also believe that women should participate in our economy and get careers (not jobs) so that they can support themselves and their child(ren) if need be. Active involvment of father's in their children's lives is just as important as that of the "sainted" role of motherhood. Having grown up in the era of men walking out on their wives and kids of many years to pursue younger women and hot cars, I actually think that parents that get divorced should be *required* to *equally* care for their kids. I had way too many friends get incredibly hurt by having their dads "dump" them. And sadly this selfishness has grown and it's not uncommon to see a mom walk out on her kids to "find herself". Or to have a single mom deny visitation rights to a father because of issues in their relationship. I don't think that should be allowed to happen. Kids have a need and right to both their parents, and only in cases of abuse should removal of parental rights happen.
If I was dictator, I'd make it damned difficult to get married, no more drunken ceremonies in Vegas. No 20 year olds getting married to their first "serious" partner. And it would be even more difficult to have kids. Birth control in the drinking water!
But still none of that really matters since the topic on hand is the fact that some people in this forum believe that getting raped is just having your wallet stolen. Or that some women have it coming because they flirt or act invulnerable. You are wrong on that and you know it. But good try on the misdirection.

I don't see it. Can you folks be more explicit about what it is from the anon comments that you folks find so hateful. I just see a discussion of different experiences of rape.

Enough with the feminist bashing (a Salon #1 sport), not to mention the unbelievable statement/question: what are women doing to mess with men's heads to cause this?
That's just so messed up that it's unbelieveable!! women do not cause rape; rape is a power crime and no "messing with men's heads" make it okay.

what if your sister was (wisely or unwisely) dressed in some kind of provocative way and was raped? would you be so callous then? i don't think so. it's so obvious that none of you have been touched by this crime in any way.
i've just had it with the "rape is a feminist's wet dream" attitude. grow the hell up and try to get it through your non-thinking, cro-magnon skulls that we're talking about a terrible, terrible method of attack, worse than being beaten up or anything like that.

But they OUGHT to be considered crimes, and if men truly WERE in charge and wanting to help their fellow men instead of always chopping them down, these WOULD be considered crimes and punished.

Frankly, you prove me CORRECT over and over that men are not considered important enough (compared to women) for their grievances to be addressed or heard. Not on Salon, not in society, not among females anywhere. We really DO NOT MATTE TO YOU WOMEN EXCEPT when we can GIVE YOU something.
The past fifty years of abuse of men at the hands of a feminist driven agenda is the proof society gives men that men do NOT MATTER. This will change and is beginning to change. I did not even realize how potent an argument can be made that a man having his kids taken away from him by a fraud perpetrating woman is WORSE than rape. BUT GUESS WHAT? it IS. It last 18 years, does RAPE?
The RAPE hysteria fems perpetrate is just that, HYSTERIA.

Sure, rape is bad. So is robbery, murder, and having your life ripped apart by a wife who manipulates and uses you. Notice, the LAST crime is not even considered a crime. But it should be. The only reason it is NOT is because the perpetrator is FEMALE.
So, I propose RAPE, because it is a primarily MALE crime, ALSO be exempted from consideration as a crime.
Sounds like a FAIR EXCHANGE TO ME (I am not really proposing this, but exaggerating to make a point that women really do not give a shit about men, yet expect to be treated royally all the time)
Screw EQUALITY until you women grow the hell up and begin to consider men as HUMAN too.
By the way, this thread is one of the most interesting I have seen on Salon in WEEKS.
