Is Bill O'Reilly sorry now?

The talk show host won't apologize for blaming a kidnapping victim.

The letters thread is now closed.

O'Reilly needs to apologize

for why he hasn't committed suicide yet.

Thursday, October 11, 2007 07:22 AM

Amen to that, Fred!

O'Reilly is a vile human being. To say those things about a child who had been sexually assaulted repeatedly for 4 years is low, even for him.

Thursday, October 11, 2007 07:22 AM

and...

the Group of 88 (Duke professors) won't apologize for blaming the victims either.

Thursday, October 11, 2007 07:31 AM

O'Reilly will never be sorry.

The the victim was male is a factor here.

Boys are supposed to manly and tough. They're expected to fight back in a way girls are not. Boys aren't supposed to be victims. Because if they are, they're not really victims. They wanted it.

Way to go O'Reilly. Way to discourage boys who are the victims of sexual predators and violence at home to just keep their mouths shut.

Can he make money apologizing?

No? Then he won't apologize.

These winger idiots only do things that make them money. They don't give a shit which side of the argument they're on as long as the money rolls in. If they don't say crazy shit, no one listens to them. No one listens, they don't get paid. Saying stupid shit is they're job description.

He is such a despicable man

I almost wish he could experience an equivalent ordeal to show him what it's really like to live in fear.

On the other hand:

This isn't a political case, where throwing knives at your target can be excused as so much partisan hardball

Well that's your personal value system. I personally don't find the the meanness in our political process excusable at all.

Didya see that clip where some fella spread fliers around BOR's neighborhood?

I just tried to find it on YouTube and I couldn't, but BOR comes out of his house without the exoskeleton of his suit and his studio. It's not just that you can see his spidery legs and his beachbally middle, but you can see that he's gooey without the exoskeleton. When I was a kid and I stepped on a spider, I was always shocked that the yellow goo that flowed out could power such a creepy beastie. So, now whenever I hear about BOR, I remember that video and his spidery legs and his beachbally middle and how soft he was, out in the open, out in the natural light.

shocked, i tell you

Bushite rightwingnut going after an 11 year old kidnapping victim? I'm amazed. Next you'll tell me they would go after a 12 year old girl who was injured in a car accident and needed public help to pay for her medical care.

deflect, deflect, deflect.

If somebody could tell me what the Group of 88 has to do with O'Reilly's comments, please do so.

How much do we know about Bill O's childhood? Was he always this swaggering, mouthy, no-account bully or did he become that way because he was the frequent target of such treatment?

Jebbus Cripes Salon talks about this baffon a lot.

This dinkus ain't be nuttin but a cartoon character. Yes, he's got x million viewers but they are all 104 and locked away in their old folks homes and walled off communities. Real humans don't take this loser seriously and most of the fake ones don't either. For the love of all things holy and delightfully delectable, stop taking the bait.

BD

I made that group of 88 comment, and I'll tell you why it's relevant.

Bill O'Reilly's job is to get people worked up and to keep people tuned in - for the sake of advertising dollars. His industry is about shock. He is shocking. It is not hard to imagine that he routinely crosses ethical boundaries for the sake of profit and popularity.

The Group of 88 is a different story. They are liberal professors at one of our country's finest universities. Their job is to teach young Americans about their chosen field. It is expected of them to be by the book. To carefully consider all sides of a topic and adhere the rules of logic and reason.

Bill O'Reilly did not apologize for blaming a kidnapping victim. The Group of 88 did not apologize for their petition which vilified innocent men and declared to "turn up the heat" on the innocent. This was an irresponsible act from a supposedly responsible group. (88 is a LOT of professors).

So, my comparison is relevant. Liberals cannot demand that a conservative talk show host apologize, if they won't demand that a group of professors apologize for the same offense.

disclosure: I disrespect Bill O'Reilly and most of his beliefs and assertions. He is not a good or kind man. I just write this on behalf of intellectual equality.

What a tool

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071011/ap_on_re_us/boys_found_devlin;_ylt=AhelhhM8DdFhfUqaomtx6U.s0NUE

His failure to apologize is made all the worse by the story in the above AP report. It seems that Shawn fought Devlin to try and prevent the second kidnampping...and to keep him in line Devlin convinced him that he had been implicated in the crime.

Thanks for the clarification Mike

Conservatives can never be wrong because liberal aren't always right.

That about it?

Thursday, October 11, 2007 08:46 AM

@BD

Indeed. Though it is amusing to see Mike Pace come out from behind an anon cloak to offer a tortured and absurd rationale for his ridiculous comparison.

Thursday, October 11, 2007 09:05 AM

I'd never even considered that someone would have a handle...

...and post anonymously. I wonder how many do this.

I once wrote a column that perturbed many, many people and was dismayed to see so many anonies. Now, I expect that they were regular readers who lacked the backbone to stand behind their words.

Yours,

Anonymous (Oooh, even kidding, it feels like cowardice.)

@ jhudson2

I'm just sayin, both are wrong and both should apologize.

But I've never seen an article by Carol (or any other liberal) titled, "Is The Group of 88 sorry now?"

I'm a libertarian. I don't have a taste for the US's partisan bombthrowing - it's so counterproductive.

Lets elect Obama, close our borders, bring home our troops, nationalize healthcare, and find some alternative energy? Anybody on board with that?
