No visible panty lines

A faith-based organization named Pure Fashion pushes clothing that will help teenage girls "maintain their dignity as children of God."

The letters thread is now closed.

Are you all freekin nuts?

Ok - I am no prude, I'm a liberal democrat and I'd say I'm on the fence about religion - borderline agnostic, but also the mother of a 10 year old, going on 25 year old, girl.

Any of you out there who are saying this pure fashion line is prudish and girls should be allowed to express themselves are crazy. The clothes that young American girls wear is completely out of control! I let my daughter play with bratz dolls, and I let her watch disney and nick shows, but I will not let my teenage daughter wear a thong, I don't let either of my kids wear those t-shirts that promote hating homework, hating school, hating their sibling, being a couch potato, etc. If it doesn't have an at least remotely positive message, I don't buy it. I also won't let them get the clothes that have writing across the butt. There is no reason for that other than to make boys look at your butt. Now once she gets a job and earns money of her own, and is 16-18 I might let her go a little further than what I would purchase with my money, but no obsence messages, I don't care what she wants. So good for Pure Fashion, we need it. I'm checking into right now, having her go to the modeling lesson. There is nothing wrong with teaching a girl to be a lady. There is nothing wrong with wearing a skirt that covers your ass, or a tank top under a low cut shirt. The dress someone was referring to, remove the big black cross (or keep it if that is what you are into) and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

has me down cold.

I post one brief comment out of over 70 letters and I have apparently violated the pristine nature of this board FOREVER.

If it is that easy to upset you, I feel sorry for anyone who has to be around you.

All I said was that life involves limits and that men also do not have perfect freedom to yell 'fire' in a full theatre, yet women expect to be able to wear what they please whenever they please (and of course to bitch about how they are treated as a result).

And this qualifies me for the loony bin, according to this freak. Of course, because freaks like this exist, I AM JUSTIFIED AFTER ALL in thinking some women are out of control.

You can only prove me RIGHT in the end. This is what upsets you so much.

Dealing with my truth is akin to someone who is stuck in quicksand-- the more they move, the faster they sink. Too funny, really.

Here's the actual email I sent to "Pure Fashon"

Where is "pure" look for BOYS? Or are they allowed to wear whatever the hell they want? I actually really like the look for girls, not for antiquated religious reasons, but because there is no reason to go around looking trashy regardless of what your religion is. As a mother of two toddler boys, I think the same thing goes. No reason for boys to look like sloppy hoodlums, right? However, the sexism conveyed by having a dress guideline for girls but not for boys is ridiculous. Oh wait - women were put here to serve men and have to dress conservatively to save men from their lustful weak selves. Hmmm... who really has the power?

Like I said

Anonymous, you just make crap up and pretend other people said it. Are you a recently out-of-work Republican operative?

Stages of reading Salon letters:

1. Wow, there are some really thoughtful posters who raised some issues I hadn't thought of!

2. There are some real whackos who enjoy spouting off on this site

3. This Brightstar person is really deranged, hope he is in a nice rest home where they keep track of his whereabouts and his medications.

4. The thoughtful posters that are new to the website keep getting distracted by BS's knee-jerk anti-feminist (anti-female) comments so their responses aren't as interesting anymore.

5. Gee, this isn't as compelling as I thought, too many people taking the Brightstar bait, yawn, better move on to a new site.(Hope they up his meds a bit and keep him away from anything female)

PS Regarding the original article: the option of non-slutty clothes for teens...great!

However, the verbage on the website is icky for many of the reasons others have listed.

Lynx needs help

and then to tell me you have very poor impulse control?

No, I meant I have very good impulse control, TOO GOOD. A lot of guys go with the flow and do what feels right rather than controlling themselves. They then laugh off the results. I wish I could be like that, but the feminists taught me to be afraid of my own shadow because I am the owner of a penis, therefore evil and suspect.

You qare right in this sense, I am not a REAL MAN yet. One who does as he pleases at the time he pleases, and does so successfully.

But thanks for misinterpreting what I said so you could build a big straw-brightstar to throw back at me.

Thanks I appreciate that.

I usually get "bear responsibility" correct. It's bear as in bearing.

Thanks and I appreciate your acknowledgment that my comments are so good they are worth repeating! That's very flattering.

To the previous Anonymous...

For the last time it's "bear responsibility". I just know you're going to recycle that same line for another tirade elsewhere, so how about doing a little proofreading next time, hmmm?

hey lynx checkout laurel in the thread about the 90 year old playa

apparently lynx feels that this guy is a criminal or a creep or something because of the way he his whipping his willie around at his age with his degenerated autism causing sperm.

Anonymous with a list

Your list of "Official Salon positions" is pretty funny and equally divorced from reality. Some are true, like A) Sex is Good. Others aure utterly false, like E) Girls bare no responsibility for their pregnancies.

Reading Comprehension seems very low among trolls. You read a sentence like "men bear some responsibility for pregnancies" and come away with your E). You're simply making things up. Why? Defensive perhaps? Done bad things in your past that you're running from and now see accusation around every corner?

The difference between you and me (one of likely many) is that I have no idea if any of that is true and I don't pretend to. Were you speaking about me, you'd have presented it as fact and screamed when someone contradicted you.
