Jenna Bush -- engaged!

Will the White House's first daughter join the alleged bridal voting bloc?

The letters thread is now closed.

Sure

But what about Not Jenna. Can she, too, find a pod people spawning partner?

No bridal gown malfunction, please!

Let us hope that the future Ms. Bush-Hagar chooses a more modest gown than the one she wore to her dad's first inaugural ball - the one with the spaghetti strap that fell down in an unfortunate manner and, thanks to the Net, became the first scandal of the administration.

Excellent Timing

If they play it right a White House wedding ceremony should kill several months worth of real news cycles and help President Bush run out the string.

"Enough about Iraq, will your daughter's gown be classic white or off-white?"

Thursday, August 16, 2007 03:01 PM

To be expected

I guess it's to be expected that Bush's daughter would be marrying a Republican. But did she have to choose one who actually worked for Karl Rove?

Seriously, do you think that this announcement could possibly be the beginning of a campaign to improve the image of the Bush family?

Thursday, August 16, 2007 03:07 PM

What a surprise...

"Mr. Hager, 29, is the son of (GOP bigwig) and is studying for his Masters." And he was a WH aide, working for Karl Rove.

I don't see a whole lot of "... is a veteran of..." in any of these announcements.

Headline: Chicken hawk chicks mate. Can chicken-hawk eggs be far off?

And she is still a Virgin...

No premarital sex so no need to use condoms. She is a product of her dad's abstinence program, right? But, I'm sure Brad is experienced so he can teach her to be a woman...

Peace,

st john

Apologies to Henry Hager...not Brad

memory is going from too many years...

Bush to Hairy Hagar

Poor thing, going from being Miss Bush to Mrs. Harry Hager. She was probably looking forward to leaving behind all the high school and college jokes about "bush". Now she'll get three times as much grief: the hairy jokes, the Hagar the Horrible jokes, and finally the hairy Hagar jokes.

Title of the wedding announcement

Harry-Bush to web

"to web" was much funnier.

wouldn't "Congratualations" be more in order than the tone of some comments here?

You might not like her dad or his policies, you might not be Republicans...but what did Jenna Bush or her fiance ever do to you?

Thursday, August 16, 2007 04:58 PM

I had thought, for at least a few minutes, that Salon might decide not to post a story on this subject...

What is the upside, policy-wise? There really is no use in attacking one of the President's daughters, other than to expose the basest level of your own venality. Maybe it was to let the more rabid of the Bush-hating Salonistas "vent."

But the risks are real, and manifest below. Letting the more surly Salonistas out of their cages to hurl epithets and unrepeatable insults at the President's daughter on the occasion of her engagement is probably not what the senior Salon editors are hoping for, lest they have to do too much "Cleanup on Aisle Decency."

Too late.

So, how are they coming, over at DailyKos, with policing the Jenna Bush hate-comments, that veer off from mere insult into quasi-criminal territory?

Thursday, August 16, 2007 05:13 PM

Not just engaged

But about 28 weeks pregnant as well. Or at least that's the buzz. It will be another immaculate conception when the baby is born spontaneously in a few months. I blame Cheney.

Thursday, August 16, 2007 10:34 PM

What didn't she do?

Perhaps the comments would be more respectful if she had a tour of duty in her recent past.

Heffalump (Elephantman)

Aw, did you get offended because some people are commenting about your beloved god's daughter? No-one really even said anything bad, just made fun of the names and mentioned her sorded past. If you want to see when people are really "veering off from mere insults into quasi-criminal territory" go check out the kinds of things Limbaugh and his ilk said about Chelsea Clinton. And those aren't just random people on the internet, they are the face of Conservatism.

As always, Conservatives can dish it out, but can't take it, even when what comes back is far, far less than what they dish out.

Jenna bush engaged

So what? One ultra-rich zero getting together with another. How will this affect this illegal regime's policies? How will this change my life for the better? Why does any REAL person even care?

Friday, August 17, 2007 09:27 AM

What are the Bush apologists thinking?!?

Seriously, do you think that this announcement could possibly be the beginning of a campaign to improve the image of the Bush family?

Is it even possible to improve the image of the guy single handedly responsible for destroying the US?

Jenna is no innocent either. Grandpa bush was party to the JFK assassination and part of the plan to assassinate Reagan, along with his other misdeeds. Great Grandpa threw money at the Nazis. Jeb is corrupt. The other Texas brother was instrumental in the S&L disaster. The family swims in illegal drug money.

Jenna herself flew down to South America to sign the papers on the 100,000 acre Bolivian plantation that her daddy will escape to should things get too hot for him in the States (fat chance of that anymore with the sympathetic one party money-and-power Dumocrats locking down the peoples' only other access to Washington)

The child of particuarly evil and amoral elites, she is sure to spawn even more dangerous, demented idiots to make our future generations all suffer.

The Pot Calls the Kettle Black

Though not a regular reader, I amuse myself at times by coming to Salon and ready the nasty invective against the Right Wing. Supposedly the Right contains all the subhuman losers.

Funny, but looks like the Salon Left also stoops to their level quite easily and readily. Not that they will ever admit it.

I would say that anyone who says they did not act, in college, like Jenna Bush did, is a liar or a bore, or maybe both. So what if the girl parties, smokes pot, and maybe screws around? Didn't everybody do that, at that age? I would be willing to bet that your own college student is doing just that, right now.

Where's the sacrifice?

I'm with proxl1 and BadReligion. The first thing that came to my mind when hearing this news was, "Has he served in Iraq?" We all know Jenna hasn't, but it looks like these two lovebirds can plan and celebrate their wedding in safety and happiness because neither of them can be bothered to go help fight Daddy's war (although I'm sure they both think it a Vitally Important Cause.)
