Roundup: Viagra, women who like money and more

A bizarre Viagra ad, good news for aspiring female airline executives and a smack-down of "The Secret Lives of Women."

The letters thread is now closed.

Lost in Translation

Thank god someone mentioned this. Otherwise I wouldn't know if it was one of those ads I was watching, or merely hallucinating.

I haven't been able to make myself pay attention to the lyric as closely as you have Just recognizing there are 4 men and listening to the tag line is enough to give me the 'ewwwws', because really, is this the kind of "guys sharing feelings with each other" anybody asked for?

PS The next song to get this treatment is Paul Anka's "Diana".

I LOVED the sexworker show!

They are people with "Dirty Jobs." They seemed more or less sane.

I don't see how this would encourage most young girls to get into sex work. Most people found the foot worship segment disturbing and creepy. Having sex with guys who can't get laid. In your sixties. Woo hoo. Shooting porn...with your MOM. The prostitute, Brooke was just cute as a bugs ear, but she was dating the brothel owner. Who was an old dude.

I mean, like, EEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWW. Pretty Woman it was not.

I'm sure that they couldn't show the more interesting requests the webcam mom gets. It can't all be stocking parties. I'm sure most teens would feel more sympathy for that son. Has he seen his mom online? Have his friends? What a nightmare.

I think light and air on most topics can discourage teens from engaging in 'forbidden' activity. It just wasn't that glamorous or interesting of a job, really. The prostitute punches a time clock for the love...

You've got to be kidding!

Viagra is the greatest marital aid known to the human race, because it enables men to have sex with women whom they cannot stand the sight of.

One of the main reasons for male infidelity is the desire to experience sexual arousal again before death. Hence Viagra (and analogous drugs) is a fine prophylactic for infidelity.

At least that is the theory. In practise, I suspect a lot of men who try Viagra with their wives immediately remember exactly why they stopped having sex with her in the first place and turn their gaze elsewhere.

However the whole point of advertising products is to fool people into buying them, and if Pfizer can get women to nag their husbands to ask the doctor if a prescription of Viagra might be good for them, then that could be good for sales.

Now do we get it?

Viagra Ad

The thing that gets me about that ad is the loving looks the musicians give each other. And the dog.

I didn't think they were all going to drive off home to boink their girlfriends and wives, that's for sure...

Viagra

The Viagra advert is creepy. It creeps me out to the extent that I change the channel when it is on.

I am a male in my 50s and I would imagine these

commercials would be aimed exactly at me. I have never run into any lads that resemble the bunch on t.v. (at least not sending whatever the hell message was intended).

This commercial distresses me. Would some marketing M.B.A. enlighten me?

So glad I'm not the only one

who saw that Viagra ad and wondered if I'd dropped acid and forgot.

The Viagra

ad made both me and my husband laugh, because they guys looked like they were in their 30's.

We all know that it's usually men 50 and above who need Viagra. Biology fucks with men too.

As for the Huffington Post, I found it ridiculous feminst clap trap. The show is call the Secret Lives of Women for a reason. Because being a doctor or lawyer is not something people go ew, you do what!?!

Plus she seemed to be focusing on ONE episode that had to do with sex work. Apparently some people do not find sex work degrading or horrid, that's their right and I don't think HBO's Real Sex series on the Bunny Ranch is making plenty of women go, ooh prostitution sounds sweet. Women who want to get paid for sex instead of work in a career are going to do so, wether this show existed or not.

Plus as a teen who watched shows like this, read about alternative sexual practices, it did not make me want to fuck for money, all it did was make me more tolerant of other people's choices. Especially since I was raised in a Protestant home with all the attending virgin till marriage, homos are freaks of nature with the yolk of Satan around their necks, abortion is murder crap.

There have been other episodes about married women with open marriages, some are swingers, some are women who married their spouse and young women because they were pregnant and instead of leave the marriage, they get boyfriends.

One episode was about shopoholics.

One episode was about women who were into S&M.

In a world where we aren't supposed to be ashamed of our sexual choices, open marriage, S&M, porn it's funny that they would decry a show that tries to explain that these women are normal, they are not dirty psycho sluts. They are your neighbors and co-workers and they aren't hurting anyone.

As opposed

To those ads which are basically threesomes among two women and some personal hygiene product. Yeah that rocks my world. with motherfuckin wings.

Subtext Anyone?

Funny--I just assumed that the Viva Viagra guys were gay. Who else would be sitting in an all-boy bar waxing musical about artificially induced erections?

Habit

..with increasing numbers of girls picking up the habit ...

Biting your fingernails is a habit. Cigarette smoking is a drug addiction.

Calling this extremely addictive drug a "habit" does not make people less likely to begin smoking and end up with a life-long addiction.

Women who like Viagra

The Viagra ad? Most men will not go to a doctor--even to save their sex lives--unless prodded by women. The ad is designed to appeal to women who like young, happy, talented, faithful men. That is to say, us.

why do kids smoke?

I'll admit from the start that I've never smoked cigs. I've always found it disgusting and I'm from a generation that smoked to be cool (60s). So I don't understand why in this day and age when kids are apparently well-informed of the dangers of smoking that they take it up. Is it still just to be cool?
