so probably the answer is not much.
Nefertiti was the wife of Ankhenaten, one of the weirder Pharaohs, while Hatshepsut ruled as Regent for her stepson and eventually gained control of the throne in BCE 1450ish
I like her already.
I'm there at the moment and I can tell you that the mud-slinging has not stuck. Pathil was elected with a big majority (by the electoral college). Today the women seem really delighted, it has been a whiff of fresh air (just when a girl child has been molested in Mumbai). For the future all observers can say is that by her body language, and her voice, Prathiba looked very sure of herself amidst the protocol. I think she will obey the constitution to the letter, but it is possible she will be more determined to defend "her causes", in her way, than was her predecessor.
would SHE do anything for gender equality? it's politics, you fools, not gender...
It's good to see women in positions of authority, but it's a little naive to assume they're going to focus that power on women's rights. Benazir Bhutto didn't do much of anything to aid women. Margaret Thatcher focused on very different issues. It's more about the leader's agenda than her gender...
I'm actually fine with having that whole exchange deleted. The whining about oppressed dads etc - which did bring out the worst in me - had nothing to do with Madam Patil's historic moment.
