Of course Plan B must increase sex between older men and young girls. The only reason that older men don't have sex with young girls is that they are afraid the girls will get pregnant, which means that the older men will be exposed and end up in jail for child molestation, or at least statuatory rape. If we allow adult men to buy Plan B, then they will be free to have sex with young girls all they want, because all they have to do is to force her to take Plan B immediatly afterwards.
Apparently, the right thinks that older men don't know how to use condoms. And that young girls who are pregnant are all going to expose their lovers/molestors to prosecution by admitting who they are. And that everybody involved has missed the reality that Plan B is not 100% effective. Other than a few details, the right has an iron clad case that Plan B leads to child molestation.
This is good news and proves that prevention first, comprehensive sex-ed programs as advocatd by the Pro-choice community is working. If fewer teens are having sex, then it proves the myth perputrted by the antis... access to contratraception and sex ed will increase teen sex... is a bogus theory.
The antis are not so concerend as they want us to believe about pregnancy and abortion and teen's safty. Their real concern is losing control over women. Their new propaganda agenda is "harm to women" whether it is birth control, abortion, or sex.
To me 54% to 47% seems like a surprisingly big drop in teen sex. Of course it may just mean that abstinence education is convincing kids not to admit to having had sex.
wha?
Are so concerned about women's health...
"This is very concerning," said Charmaine Yoest of the Family Research Council. "We think this is putting women's health at risk."
Funny you heard nothing from them at the latest egregious 5 to 4
in which ..women's health provisions were conspicuously absent.
So..."What is Hypocrisy?"
Yet another salvo in the continuing assault on logical thought processes by the (ever creative but ever single-minded) Right Wing Conservative Christian Coalition: that the problem with Plan B -- the only serious problem they can come up with!!! -- is that older male sexual predators will use this to cover up their sexual activity with underage minor girls. Apparently, they have exhausted pursuing the idea of problems with the medication in Plan B (it's just a high dose of plain old BC pills), long term affects, cost, availablity and so forth. This is the last desperate gasp of ineffectual thinking.
WHY, if older men are molesting young girls, don't the older men use CONDOMS??? After all, condoms are vastly cheaper (about 50 cents to $1 each) and much more available (any men's restroom), and I haven't heard any serious complaints, even from Right Wingers, that condoms are immoral or shouldn't be sold (maybe they think this, but I haven't actually read it anywhere). A condom would not only prevent pregnancy, but also eliminate any forensic evidence of DNA, so that the rapist couldn't be identified or caught easily.
No, these old perverts (apparently there are no young perverts) are spending $50 instead of 50 cents, and shoving Plan B down the throats of their victims. In order for this to be happening, you'd think pharmacists would notice a lot of creepy old men (in raincoats) buying armloads of Plan B to cover their nefarious activities, but I have not read anything like this. Since Right Wing Christian PHARMACISTS are all in an uproar about preventing WOMEN from buying legal doses of Plan B, do they also screen and prevent men from buying it, based on this scenario?...didn't think so.
Rapists don't tend to give a lot of thought to long-term consequences, like being identified by CSI from the DNA you leave behind at a crime scene.
If the real goal of society is to prevent teen pregnancy, and to prevent babies from coming into this world unloved and unwanted, then Plan B is a powerful tool to help that happen. It can't possibly prevent rape and molestation -- what medication COULD do that? -- but at the minimum, it can help the victims of rape and molestation avoid the further trauma and emotional devastation of becoming pregnant by their victimizer.
I can't imagine what kind of person calls themselves "Christian", yet thinks it is "a good idea" for a young girl to become pregnant by her molester for the sole sake of using that pregnancy to identify the criminal. That's sick, backwards, hateful thinking, and further shows the moral bankruptcy of the Christian Right.
Because when I think, “what organizations are working to protect women’s health?” I always think of the Family Research Council. Of the 12 “team leaders” and senior staff members at FRC, Yoest in the only woman.
Yoest is a woman who’s the communications director and new public persona of FRC. But that doesn’t make the Family Research Council a credible voice when it comes to protecting women’s health.
Nice try, though.
To clarify, it's the fundies (as in fundamentalist) that are upset by plan B. Christian, Islamic, etc, it's always the various fundies that are in a tizzy to control sex. Those folks are about as conservative as Hugo Chavez.
It's like claiming that the family research council speaks for all of the families and family members out there.
Using an unfortunate phrase: "Don't throw away the baby with the bath water." Painting all conservatives and all christians with the same broad brush only serves to alienate. Instead, try to distinguish friend from foe. Those people are a bunch of reactionary fundamentalists trying to hijack the conservative label. Call 'em fundamentists illustrate who they really are and what they stand for.
Labels are important. Control the labels and you control the dialog. The neocons have done so to their great advantage. You play into the fundies hand when you call them conservative. You allow them to camouflage themselves within a larger much saner demographic.
