Hanky-panky or sexual assault?

An investigation into an alleged assault of a detainee at Texas' Hutto prison turns into an "official misconduct" inquiry.

so sad

The word "assault" conjures up a scenario of brutal, physical force. Perhaps that's not what happened here. But iven if the detainee initiated the contact (which is not suggested by the article, I'm thinking "best case" scenario), it's still a form of coersion: if the guard likes me, maybe I'll get out of here faster/get better treatment, etc. The guard is culpable, and iMHO, criminally negligent at best

Of course, I view he entir detainee center as an "assault" on the inmates. This kind of set-up is un-American,.

Corrections Corrporation of America will gain nicely from Senate Immigration Bill

Thanks so much to Broadsheet for reporting on this.

One CCA facility I know about actually had its stock price published in a public area of the prison (oh, sorry, administrative detention facility) so that immigrants, many of them asylum seekers, could see how they were personally helping out CCA.

A lot of the seldom-talked about provisions of the proposed immigration bills will work to increase mandatory detention for clearly non-violent offenders, including many asylum seekers. So there is a good chance Hutto-type situations will only increase. But its good to have a little bit of sunlight and reporting.

How Much Longer?

How much longer are Americans going to stand by and let this continue? If we don't react, we're as guilty as those who are locking these people up for profit...even if it's in the name of "national security." Write your senator and represenative and demand action. Visit www.myspace.com/free_the_children for more information about Hutto.

can it even be called hanky panky

If a person is imprisoned, can having sex really be consensual?? Basically, guards hold the keys to all privileges and even basic needs.

What really concerns me is the lack of any judicial oversight for HSA/ICE or correctional officers in their facilities. How can there be a fair and impartial investigation when the only ones allowed to carry it out are members of the very system which created the situation? The city pd and sheriffs department have been told they have no jurisdiction in this matter.

Seems to me the last time I heard of a government police force with free reign they were called Gestapo.

I am a citizen of the town which this "prison" is located. I ask for all concerned people to get involved in ending this unconstitutional and inhumane treatment of people.
